Huh, and I always thought I had a kink. I guess it's not a kink if other women dig the look, right?

cheryl -- Johnny Depp in Pirates, *sigh*

MaryK -- I think my fascination with men in eye makeup began with Tim Curry! We used to go to the theatre at Halloween in junior high to watch Rocky Horror and throw rice and toast.

Rae -- you must be younger (and I daresay cooler!) than I, because I don't know any guys who wear makeup. Sometimes I see guys wearing eyeliner if they're hanging out on Granville street and also have black combat boots and hardware in their ears, but that's about it. Unless I think back to the eighties....

I am totally drawn to some makeup wearing musicians. I always loved Boy George and Adam Ant and more recently Adam Lambert. I think they look hot with makeup. Oh, and lets not forget Johnny Depp! Yummy goodness!!!

All I know is that I have long been smitten with Tim Curry's Natalie Wood-esque makeup in "Rocky Horror Picture Show!"

Well, why not? I think there are foundations/concealers targeted to men already. I see it as an exercise in creativity And if a man just wants to hide the bags under his eyes, well - can you blame him? If anything we can sympathize

I don't even blink anymore when men wear eye makeup - "guyliner" has become the common term. Like any other body decoration, it's a signifier for a personality trait that we wearer wants to emphasize. As Maya said, women (usually) use makeup to amplify their femininity -- conversely, guys will do it to suggest androgyny, edginess, sensitivity (I'm thinking of Emo guys here), or yeah even femininity, too. I may not find it attractive, but then I may not find a guy's shoes attractive, either - no reason to ban the look. And hey, some guys hate makeup on girls. To each his own.

Women wear makeup to "cheat" nature and make their facial features more feminine and therefore more attractive (obviously there are lots of other reasons, but that's a pretty basic one). I don't see why makeup can't exist for men with the goal of giving them more masculine features.

I'm not interested in seeing men wearing lipstick and mascara, because those things feminize the face and I wouldn't find that appealing on a male face.

But makeup that is meant to enhance male features wouldn't be a bad thing.

That said, I don't have a problem with men who like to wear makeup. It's not my cuppa tea, but I don't see why it should be unacceptable.

Do you think the world would be a better or worse place if it were fashionable and socially acceptable for men to wear makeup?

I know this is coming out of left field. I've been thinking about it since I read an interview with Australian musician/comedian Tim Minchin, who performs with wild hair and heavy eye makeup. (Incidentally, funniest performer EVER. And very talented muscially, also. I just discovered him and couldn't stop watching youTube videos). He said in the interview that he does the makeup because he relies heavily on his facial expressions while performing, since his hands are generally occupied with playing the piano. Anyway, the point is, I sort of like the look, but IRL men never get to do that, and I'm wondering why not.
