Sveta, you could try this and skip the layering issue altogether: http://www.amazon.com/Kensie-W.....#038;ie=UT

The fit is not boxy, but if you go up a size it could be.

Just chiming in to say yes to a heavier sweatshirt. I have worn this look in the past with lighter weight sweaters and was bugged all day because it just wasn't working. The sweatshirts I wore last week that worked for me were regular sweatshirt weight and came from F21.

Do you like the fit of the Gap button-down? I have several of their BF fit button-downs and they are my favorites.

I think you look nice. It's not a bad look! It's just different. I think you need a heavy, cropped and wide sweater or sweatshirt to get the boxy layered look. I think as others have already pointed out.

I layered my H & M sweater over a Foxcroft shirt. The sweater was on the heavy side which helped.

I generally find JCrew Tippis are too sheer in the lighter colors to layer as shown. I like the Tippis a lot, but I don't ever think of them as heavy or substantial cashmere.

Both my cashmere and merino Tippis work for me, but only when worn over my pricier cotton shirts. The finer, silkier weave makes it easier for the sweater to glide over the shirt. My less expensive cotton shirts were not as good because they bunched up and were not very comfortable.

Definitely the sweater's weight, Sveta. You would look great in this silhouette.

I just remembered -- with my thin sweater I wore a looser fit SILK shirt vs. cotton.

With my second attempt the shirt was cotton.

I sized up in Tippi so they are pretty slouchy on me.I tucked in the shirt but because the shirt was boxy it had that extra material under the sweater and because the knit was very thin (14 g I think) and light in color every fold of the shirt was visible and drove me crazy.
Just for fun I tried one of my hubby's sweaters on top of that shirt and it worked much better but it had looser fit in the sleeves and much thicker knit.
Cashmere Tippi are a bit heavier (12 g) so it may help. And Angie, Tippi are long on you, not on me I have attached the picture of my today's disaster...

hahahah!!!!!!!!

I had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE yesterday, with my Merino tippi and my BR shirt. I did tuck in the shirt under the sweater, but I still felt like it was bunching up all day. I'm sticking to EITHER heavier sweaters or silkier shirts.

I think Angie is right -- with my lightweight Zara -- besides the dolman sleeve (which helped) I also tucked in the shirt for that look.

And with the Amber Sun, the tails were out, but the shirt weight and the sweater weight were about the same, and the sweater is shorter than Tippi.

Tippi Merino isn't boxy enough, for sure. And the weight is also an issue, although I made it work with my very thin weight silk/cotton Zara sweater. But that sweater has dolman sleeves.

Oh - also made it work with the Amber Sun sweater. In that case the tails of the shirt were out so there wasn't any bunching.

My outfit from yesterday (with the fitted sweater) was a lot 'fussier" -- even though that sweater is the best sweater ever for fitted over a shirt, since the diagonal weave sort of presses the shirt down and keeps it in place.

Heavier sweaters work even better. And shorter when you leave the tails untucked.

I layer my Tippis - neon pink and citron - over BB's shirts and the combination worked fine when I tucked the shirt - not the pullover. I think the Tippis are a little long. And my Tippis are very fluid which I think might help too.

JCrew Tippis aren't boxy enough for this look I think. Plus I think you'd need a heavier weight to have the sweater fall properly.

...but I cannot make boxy shirt + boxy sweater to work for me!
I thought that maybe it is because my shirts are not boxy enough so I got perfectly boxy white shirt at Gap this weekend. I decided to pair it with my merino Tippi sweater...and I was very uncomfortable the whole day!
Now I am thinking that maybe this sweater is not boxy enough even if it is a pretty slouchy fit on me. Or maybe it's knit is too thin and therefore too clingy...in any case the shirt kept pooling under the sweater and I kept adjusting it all day.
Actually I think it is not the size but rather the weight. Last Sunday at Gap I tried to layer luxlight sweater over the shirt and had the same problem - and the sweater was pretty oversized on me but the knit was very thin.
I still love the idea but maybe I need different sweaters for that? I think my chunky cream Gap sweater may work but it is too long and the neck is too high for the shirt.

Anybody else has this problem? Any retail suggestions for sweaters which are suited better for this?

ETA: I have added a picture of my disaster...
