Just became eligible this morning, and have our first Moderna shots next Wednesday! I thought we were going to have to wait much longer, but a rural red county near us had a lot of availability.

Our 24-year-old daughter got her first dose of the vaccine today. I’m so thankful because she’s a teaching assistant at the university, & she already has a job as soon as she graduates. Bring vaccinated should help. Can’t hurt!

I got my first Moderna vaccine yesterday, with no ill effects so far, other than a sore muscle at the injection site. I was prepared, that there might be more discomfort, but I'd rather have that on my own terms, than to get the virus, and be terribly sick.

I took tylenol after, as a pre-emptive strike against any soreness, but tylenol always makes me drowsy. Once I shook that off (a couple of hours), I was fine. I've pretty much felt euphoric, which was a revelation to me, how deeply I've carried around fear and worry of this virus, for more than a year now.

My plan was always to take whatever vaccine was available, but TBH, the J&J would have been my first choice. It's supposed to be the safest for people with asthma and life-threatening allergies. My mom has a long medical history of thalassemia, life-threatening bad food allergies, and she has been on thyroid-replacement for 35+ years. Her doctor flat-out told her to wait until she can get the J&J.

My BF got his first Moderna last week, and his arm was very sore, but was gone within a day.

Several friends and my dad had the Pfizer, with no lasting effects (I keep track of this by the number of Viagra jokes I've had to listen to). @Suntiger: my dad did have a weird 15 minutes, where he fell asleep on the couch, woke up, and his face look and felt sun- or wind-burned. After 15 minutes, it all went away, and he's been fine, walking and swimming every day. He gets his second shot today.

At the end of the day, I'm very grateful I was able to get the vaccine! My next one is already scheduled in four weeks.

I still plan to wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, and unnecessary physical contact, for reasons of potential new COVID variants, and simply as a courtesy to people around me.

JAileen, I am thrilled for you. Dr. Fay I was asked by Colbert which shot he would recommend, and his answer was that he would get whatever was available. Fatigue is a common side effect for all versions. DDIL just had her 1st Moderna and had a couple days of fatigue.

I am so glad you were able to get vaccinated! Hurray!

And I agree with others that I would have taken any vaccination available. As it happens, my vaccination site only had Moderna available, but had it been Pfizer or J&J, I would not have hesitated. As you said, the whole point is to avoid hospitalization and/or death.

My second dose is scheduled for April 1, and I'm counting the days. I am also looking forward to when the rest of my family, including my late teen/young adult children, can get vaccinated as well.

Thought I'd be at the bottom of the list, since I can WFH- but my company did have a little outbreak :/

Yay! I’m so glad for you. I got my first dose (Pfizer) last week & my second dose is scheduled for April 8th. My husband has had his first dose, too, & our college-aged daughter now qualifies. As a TA, she’ll be able to get her vaccine from the university, as my husband did. Since I’m retired, I made my appointment through the online patient portal after receiving a vaccine appointment invitation from the hospital that my doctor is affiliated with.

YAY !!!!! Congratulations !

I just got my first dose on Monday. I got Pfizer.

And I can't agree with you more ! Take whichever vaccine is safe that you can get. All three vaccines in the US have higher efficacy than any flu vaccine the US has ever had. The highest flu vaccine efficacy ever recorded was 60% about 8 years ago. JnJ has an efficacy at 72% ! That is FANTASTIC.

And the more people immunized at all efficacies ( that are safe ) , brings us closer to population immunity.

So GOOD FOR YOU !!!!!!! Hope is on the horizon.

Congratulations! You must feel relieved.

I’ll be eligible by April 5 and theoretically by mid-April shots will be open to all age groups in my state BUT that’s dependent on enough vaccines to go around. (We are a high-compliance state.)

I’m perfectly happy to wait and let others go first and I won’t hunt for a shot. I did that for my elderly mother and it was stressful. We can now pre-register here and should receive a call to make an appointment at a mass-vax site as more vaccine becomes available.

Honestly, I don’t think my life will change that much in the short-term... the variants are giving me pause and infections here in the NE are rising again. #TeamCautious

So happy for you, JAileen. It is such peace of mind and J&J is a great vaccine. I have heard the experts suggest that misunderstanding its efficacy is common. Zero deaths and hospitalizations is a great result.

Mr E and I had our second Moderna shot yesterday. We both have low grade fevers, muscle aches, and headaches this morning. I am reminding myself to celebrate our responsive, though aging, immune systems.

It will be so good when the supply increases; it looks like it is improving in much of the US. Good thoughts to all here.

I’m scheduled for a first dose in Florida, hope it will enable me to pressure the German govt here into letting me have a second ahead of schedule.
But even better than getting a second here would be if my son and I could get the one and done J&J. There is a location offering them to walk-ins, no appointment required. I hope that we can do like you did and sweet talk them into popping him. We might also ask his allergist to write a letter saying he has extra need. Then he’d be officially eligible for it.

Good news! the advantage of J&J is it's a single-shot vaccine. Considering most parts of the world will not have access to ANY vaccine for the foreseeable future, it is a very big privilege to have access to a vaccine, let alone be able to pick which one. Thanks for doing your part for the community.

So pleased for you and totally agree that the best vaccine is the one that is in your arm. I am still waiting here but it looks like I might be in phase 2 (which has yet to begin) due to immuno suppression. Fingers crossed!

So pleased to hear that JAileen - definitely a great step!!

We are at this stage here only getting Pfizer and only border workers and front line health staff at the moment. I am some time after July!!

But vaccines should go to the countries that need them urgently first, and we are not that place.
