Really like your new short haircut! I love the slight waviness and how it shapes around your face. If you feel this style makes you feel stylish and happy...then you shouldn't even wait for others approval to keep it that short.

The new cut is great. I love short hair. I wish more women would be freed from the idea that short hair is not feminine. It can be so stylish, as you are proving. I know it's hard to disentangle ourselves from the push of our ideas about people's perceptions of us but life is so much better when you can get to that place. I hope you sport that sassy new do with confidence!

Love your haircut-- very stylish. I agree, it really highlights your delicate features.
And I love the outfit too. I think boots start to look "streetwalker" when the dress gets too short. I love tall boots with skirts... just make sure to keep the rest of your outfit tasteful (which you did).

I would just like to say that your new hair cut is beautiful. I have had short hair at various points in my life and would not allow the minorities preconceived ideas about femininity effect my choices. You ROCK your new cut!

Really, really pretty. I often use my long hair as a kind of, I dunno, shield/ curtain/ veil to hide myself from the world; your short hair is not only gorgeous but it's also HONEST (if that makes any sense). I'm jealous that you have the confidence to show yourself instead of hiding behind flowing locks.

Can't wait to see more photos of your coiff as you grow more used to it during the weeks to come.

Yay, you!

Medusa, you ROCK. Love your comment. And where did you live in France? We’ve lived there too.

Kathleen, I echo Chris. You look hip, stylish and pretty with short hair. It really show cases the bone structure in your face. Fabulous!

For what it’s worth, I’ve had super short hair for most of my life and not only do I feel feminine but I am perceived as feminine too – by both men and women :0)

Very cute, hip and stylish! When I have had short hair I tend to love how fast I can style it. That way you have more time to play up your fashion sense.
The shorter hair really makes your eyes stand out and showcases your glowing skin ! Love it and i hope you continue to do so as well (and ignore any negative comments).

Kathleen, I'm glad you're making style choices that reflect what you want and not your fears. In particular, I don't think stereotypes about queer women having short hair should determine your look! Whether or not this stereotype is even accurate varies so much. In my experience, women in Europe and coastal American cities have short hair much more often than in the US interior. Some lesbian/bisexual women do have short haircuts, but lots of others don't. And even if some people read your haircut as signaling that you are queer, it's not such a big deal. When they get to know you better they will find out that you're straight.

I thought about this a lot when I lived in France; the clothes worn by most men that I saw there would make them look queer to US eyes. But really the men tended to look stylish and good! I realized that so many straight men in the US dress sloppily because they are scared of being perceived as gay. But I just don't think that's something that should control style choices.

I'm trying to say that you should go with styles that you like, and wear them with confidence. Fear shouldn't be the main factor.

Well, I couldn't take it anymore. Trying to grow my hair out was becoming a pain in my ass! So, I got it cut, and I am absolutely in love with it (though this may change tomorrow morning). Okay, here is the story behind my latest hair issue: I have been working on growing it out for about two months and it was beginning to hit just above my eyebrows.

However, my hair grows very funky, in all different types of directions, and tends to enjoy laying on the left side of my head (that is wear my natural part is, or so I've been told, because I have no clue about any of this type of stuff). Anyway, my mom had a cocktail party with some of her co-workers tonight and I was helping her out until I left to make an appearance at my friend's party. Well, her friend (the one who gave me my whole new wardrobe) walked in and I immediately fell in LOVE with her haircut. I told my mom that it was the type of cut I would LOVE if I was not trying to grow out my hair.

So, I left the party with the intention of walking around Target to kill some time before I had to go to my friend's party. Well, needless to say I did NOT end up at Target, and instead went into Fantastic Sams and got my haircut.

I have come to the conclusion (as I have many other times, but it never sticks) that with the thickness of my hair (it is massively thick) I either need to wear it super short or super long, as there is no "happy medium". I was beginning to just put up with all the crappy in-between stages of letting my hair grow out, but I have yet again lost my patience and cut it.

Anway, as I stated in my long ramble, I am in LOVE with the cut (maybe that will change tomorrow), but I still have others voices in my head (i.e. women with short hair tend to be gay, I'm NOT, short hair is for boys, you look like a twelve-year old boy with short hair etc. etc.). I am not sure in my last post (about the pencil skirts with the knee high boots looking hookerish to me) who posted the story about letting that one person unconciouslly incfluence a choice one makes, but you were absolutely right I did it with the boots and again with my hair.

Why is that I wonder? Any opinions?

Anyway, here are the pics of the new haircut and what I wore to the part.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/44167539@N04/

Please, be HONEST, tell me what you think. And, maybe you can provide some insight that I have overlooked as to why others opinions bother me so much (even it is strangers making the comments or my own friends - THAT really hurts - ).

Hope all is well!

Thanks!
