Yes, waterproof them or they will get stains. Fryes are indestructible but the leather will dry out and crack more easily if it gets repeatedly wet then dry.

I have been mucking around in some nasty winter weather with my 8r engineers and they have been amazing. Warm, dry feet all day. I'm the same way, I talk about how great they are I have to put in a disclaimer that I don't work for the company.

I have the same feelings about my Blondo boots. Walked to work through deep puddles of slushed snow with water once and with completely dry feet!
In our winter stylish, waterproof and slip resistant boots are wort their weight in gold!

Wanted Frye's since I was in high school in the 70's, but got my first pair two years ago. Black 'Paige'...on sale in January 2011. I wear them almost every day November through April. Have to deal with serious snow and cold up here on the 48th parallel.

Before I put them away in the spring, I clean and polish them, and spray a couple times with weatherproofing. They look brand new.

A value if you factor PPW.

Awesome! I would wear my Veronica shorties in the snow but I find the sole a little too slippery on ice. Maybe I should add some non-slip things to them.

Yeah, Fryes are really post apocalyptic. My veronica shorties are the sturdiest pair I own.

I LOVE the idea of Frye's, but most look pretty rugged. I would love to find a more feminine pair of them.

I haven't WP-ed them yet. Maybe I should.

To be sure, they are not an elegant boot. They're rugged, but in my biased opinion much more stylistically neutral and versatile than, let's say, a cowboy boot.

Suz, the snow reached about 2.5 feet or so, and now it's melting. Oh, I also have salt lines on my boots but they should wipe right off. Maybe I'll bother in March.

I love functional clothing - particularly ones that look good! I don't feel the same the other way around. A good pair of boots is absolutely worth paying for.

We need boots that are fashionable yet wearable in horrid weather. Hope you are not flooded there. It's a mess by me but we are managing.

I recently returned the Frye combat boots and tried the Engineer 8 while I was there. Really loved them - they come in black and a smoke colour. I might have to put them on my wish list after this endorsement. I returned the combats because I bought them in brown and could not make that work for me, and was way too lazy to consider tying them up each time

That is great to hear! Just to be safe, maybe spray them once in a while to make sure they retain their waterproofing? This brings them to the next level of awesomeness!

I've been walking in the messy sloshy slush in my Frye Harness 12Rs (somewhere between a mid-calf and tall height for me). In five-inch-deep puddles. And these boots are watertight. I suppose that snow or water could get in through the gap at the opening, but nothing is going to permeate the toe portion of this boot. And obviously more stylish!

I swear I don't work for Frye, but this is the reason I was willing to spend $350 recently on the Lindsay Plates. (That's not close to the high end of their price point.) These are boots that can handle a beating, and probably survive a nuclear war. So unless I take up hunting, it looks like these are gonna be my go-to boot for mucky weather.
