I finally found sneakers that work for me -- Allbirds!

I like that you don't need to wear socks with them at all. Those "no-show" socks never work for me. The Allbirds are made of merino wool so they are soft as can be and don't rub or chafe anywhere, plus they are WARM and toasty, or cool and breathable.

I haven't tried the loafer version -- I have the laces in the grey. I don't think they look clunky on my feet either. I can walk for hours in them.

I tried the sneaker trend when it first started but shoes that tie hurt my hands so I passed them on. I just ordered a Vionic hi top that both ties and zips and I love them. I will wear them as booties. At least that is the plan.

"loafers, ballet slippers, and oxford shoes " all sound much colder to me than sneakers! Especially the ballet slippers.

Sneakers + jeans, isn't that an old, basic formula? I can't see how it's unworkable in winter, although it is of course more casual. But I can see sneakers + dress not working in winter, because the dresses in question are usually flirtier/shorter/not as warm.

I'm a sneaker lover, but like to change up sneaker style. Loved slip-ons and wore mine into the ground before there was time to fall out of love. Now I'm enjoying my Cons. The red high tops are leather, and a half size too big. They are perfect when worn with wool socks, so are weekend favourites - more so during colder weather!

My Cons are knitted up with comfy inserts so they are always a pleasure to wear.

I can't conceive of NOT wearing sneakers--they've been an essential part of my wardrobe all my life, sometimes being worn less in favor of something else, but never eliminated for long stretches of time. I could see that changing if I moved somewhere with a colder climate and having them be a summer thing, but in the southern US, they can be worn year round (except during freakish snow weeks like this one--I've been in my combat boots daily).

It sounds to me like you're just not enthusiastic about them right now and are craving a change. Maybe you'll return to them, and maybe not. Since you're thinking it's a seasonal thing, I'd enjoy the winter and different shoes, and then see how you feel when it warms up again. I'd suggest keeping the sneakers you have and not buying new ones until you've been able to think about it during the season you're more inclined to wear them.

Count me among those who only wear them part of the year. I still like them but I think some of my slip-on sneakers from a few years ago have maybe run their course, stylewise. But they feel very spring-summer to me. I have others in lace-up styles that are more cool weather appropriate.

I just seem to gravitate more toward sandals in summer and boots in winter, but there are times when sneakers are just better for my activities.

With our rarely cold weather and my casual lifestyle, I still love my Eccos and UGG sneaks - but they feel less athletic to me. I rarely wear "real" sneakers out and about unless I'm going hiking or walking a lot. I prefer sandals in hot weather or booties in cold weather so the sneakers are more spring/fall for me.

Like Greyscale, sneakers have not been a large part of my wardrobe since I stopped wearing Converse daily. I have two pairs of sneakers that I wear casually, and two pairs that I wear only as gear (one for trails, one for roads). My casual pairs, for now, are both navy. They go with everything. The canvas ones are great for playing around in the woods, on the beach, etc. The slip-ons are great for around-town, and I'm using them as slippers right now, which has pushed their CPW way down. I don't have any uncomfortable sneakers. Converse and I have parted ways for comfort reasons, and though I've tried on a few other trendy styles like Stan Smiths, none of them have been comfortable enough to be worth adding.

Like others, I pretty much stop wearing sneakers altogether sometime in the fall and switch over to boots until sometime in the spring. I wonder if living in a warm climate and having the option to wear sneakers year-round makes them feel less exciting. I definitely prefer the look of sneakers with bare ankles. I think they're much more fun as a warm weather shoe.

I think identifying specific activities that require sneakers and building capsules around those specific shoes is a good way to go if you're finding your sneakers troublesome to style. Also: making sure you have alternatives to sneakers that tick the "comfortable" and "casual" boxes but feel more fab.

Sneakers are more seasonal wear for me also. They just work better with my summer wardrobe, whereas in winter boots and booties are more fun, and warmer, too. While I might opt for sneakers on warm winter days, only my black Paul Green side zip sneaks and a high-top Converse sneaker have made the grade recently.

I'm currently not wearing sneakers as often, but that's mostly because I am a meat popsicle and want thick socks on my feet, which never feels quite right when I try to do it. So I've been wearing a lot of boots. I really don't see myself giving up the sneakers, though, since thy are what's most practical for my lifestyle. Some days, I look at all of the fabric shoes you guys are wearing, and I get a little wistful and jealous. Actually, a lot wistful and jealous. I have no idea what on earth I'm going to do when I get tired of sneakers, because there really aren't that many things that work out here in our very rural environment

Forum comments have led me to conclude that it might actually be a seasonal thing after all. My Winter wardrobe is completely different from my Summer wardrobe. I do wear full length pants and socks in the Winter months. Perhaps I just wasn't feeling the sneakers with the socks.

Oh for sure I find it harder to be fab in sneakers in winter. I am trying to re-incorporate full-length jeans in my looks and struggling with footwear. If I have a free minute I want to take photos of some of the pants I'm struggling with, worn with various shoes, to see what works.

Sneakers are a summer-only shoe for me. But my sneakers aren't trendy, they are plimsolls (canvas, slip ons but with eyelets). I wear them constantly in summer and especially like them with floral skirts/dresses -- very carefree English countryside.

The discussion on this thread is interesting -- I'll be curious to know whether you decide they are season specific, or if the trend has truly run its course for you.

I still like them a lot but I don't wear them for half the year -- they are spring/ summer/ early fall shoes for me and than I'm into boots/ booties for the duration. So this probably keeps them fresh in my mind for longer. I am also with Greyscale and she and I have similar proportions. I find on me they look good with certain pants/ dresses and not others, so I need to be selective. Plus on super hot days they are too warm for my feet. Mainly they are for transitional weather in my climate but wow, I do appreciate their comfort and versatility when I need to travel.

I still love them, and in fact bought 2 more pair in the last week - 00- . A pair of slip ons in black satin with a thicker/flatform sole and black fur pompoms , and a pair of navy velvet lace-ups. There is no end to the occasions I can wear them in /to , and they fill that strange category of modern/funky/comfortable casual shoes. I don't wear them out in the snow, but they definitely get worn for indoor work events and then all spring ,summer and fall. I consider myself a pretty early adopter of this trend - and can't see stopping wearing them until something different comes along.

I have never felt great in sneakers and prefer something I can easily slip on and off like loafers. Like Roxana, I wear them most in summer, but have not gotten in the habit of wearing them with frocks, reaching for ballet flats, athletic flats or loafers instead. I do like them when planning to do lots of walking. I can easily wear no-show socks and be comfortable.

I am like Roxanna in my preferences - but for me this is a autumn/spring look or warmer winter day look (I struggle to wear sneakers with no socks in summer as my feet just get far too hot and sweaty). So for me I like them with ankle pants, cuffed straightleg, ankle length skinnies.

I will wear with the odd dress or skirt as long as it is shorter and on the casual side too.

Leather sneakers are very practical for my climate and lifestyle so I do plan to keep on wearing them.

Hey sterling - I actually do find that I only like sneakers with certain pants. I only like them with skinnies, cuffed, no socks, so there is 3-4 inches of bare skin. That's the only way they feel non - schlumpy to me. So I only wear them in summer, but that's OK with me.

For me, nothing beats a good pair of sneakers for lots of walking. So I think I will always have a pair that I can wear for those long walking days. As for just wearing fashion sneakers with other casual outfits, I am finding myself looking for substitutes-comfy sandals, booties, etc. early fall I bought a pair of platform sneakers. I am finding they are getting way less wear than I thought when I bought them.

I am not over them yet. I recently re-bought a pair of blush pink sneakers that I look forward to wearing next Spring!

Well, it is rare for me to be the first to adopt a trend ... any trend.

Fashiontern -- I understand completely. I need good support when I walk. The Sperrys would not cut it for me.

Should you discover the magic combination that looks chic, Greyscale, please post about it. Perhaps that is the problem. I may have been wearing the wrong bottoms with them. I genuinely had not considered that.

Hi Emily -- I am glad you still love them. It was certainly a trend I thought I would never, ever consider abandoning. I would be very interested in reading future posts about which look best in combination with different outfits. Perhaps I don't yet have to relegate mine purely to errands.

P.S. This is why the Forum is so amazing. It never occurred to me that perhaps I was just wearing them with not the best bottoms. It makes sense if you think about. I transitioned away from Summer to Winter. Suddenly, I feel less fab in them.
