Lol! Welcome to Team Shoulder! I've had that comment directed at me many a time but I don't think it was ever meant maliciously. I think most people just blurt things out without thinking. You have a great figure, Una!

The first time I realized I had broad shoulders was when one my best friends (who is still one of my best friends) told me, in middle school, that my shoulders made me look like a football player! Unfortunately I've heard that one several times, especially when wearing sweatshirts (and yet I kept wearing sweatshirts...).

Anyway, you have great shoulders, and looking like a swimmer is preferable to looking like a football player! Hopefully you don't have any football b-day parties in the near future

Take it as a compliment! You obviously look very fit. It's a good thing! Lucky you. :)

I'd feel VERY uncomfortable if someone commented on my body in a changing room, though!

I do find it weird that someone would say that. I find changing in locker rooms so awkward anyway - I am not good with nudity, my own or others.

Maya, don't you find tailors that way in India? They are matter of fact about it, but still. And my family with the comments on looks! "She'd be pretty, but her nose is imperfect." Or too dark/light/skinny/fat/short/tall... Blah!

I do rock climb, which add to the shoulders. I need to take up a lower-body buuilding sport....

Oh, I have plenty of cellulite, mostly around the mid-section. :)

I am pretty sure one of the other moms, who is a good friend, did not swim with her son because she was self-conscious about wearing a swimsuit. That was really sad for me. None of us were Elle McPherson!

I'm sure she meant it as a compliment, although I do find it a little weird when strangers comment on one's body. Somehow it feels....violating. But she probably just wanted to compliment your athletic bod! And was consequently impressed that you didn't even have to try :)

When I tried out a new tailor a few years ago, she openly expressed her frustration with my body type: "You are so big up here ::puts hands on either side of my chest:: and skinny down here ::puts hands on either side of my waist::." Um yes, that's why I'm coming to you.

She then told me that she could not do the job I wanted her to do (put darts in a shirt) because I was just *that* disproportionate. See why I never go to tailors?

And you probably don't have any cellulite, lucky you :).
The second I read your post I tried to imagine me and my pearish thighs in that changing room and I shuddered.

Yesteday I went to an kid's birthday party at an indoor pool. In the changing room a woman said to me, "You must be a swimmer," and when I said I wasn't, she said,
"Oh, you have a swimmer's body, especially in the shoulders."

I don't know if I'd comment on a stranger's figure like that, but I guess it's the truth!
