Combat boots can work nicely with a flowy skirt or dress. I wore my combat boots with a skirt and black tights to work yesterday and was happy with my outfit. The boots you are showing look really nice and refined and may be good up to late Spring, I think.

I really like this look - combat boots can be great for work. I used to wear them with vintage dresses a lot. I'm also on the lookout for some new combat boots, and there are some really good options on here!

ChrisM - I’m always excited if the reviews say they run long. Then I can wear 10s. Or short, and I’ll try the 11. So annoying to be excluded when the average women’s shoe size is a 9.

I returned a Cobb rockport Bethany I would likely have kept for the reason of being between sizes.

I love the look of a skirt and stompy boots too - but it's really outside my wheelhouse. I would need to keep the rest of the outfit pretty low key to wear it to work. A girl can dream though . . .

Like you, I am always on the hunt for 10 1/2's. I have the Merrells in the non-lace up version in a 10 1/2 and they are very comfortable - but definitely a winter boot.

I have the same problem as you with Frye - and actually with Born too.
10's are too small, 11's too big.

If they have a rounder toe box, I can make them work in a size 10, but any taper and forget about it.

Am following your thread - there are some great options here!

Brooklyn - I’ve seen those boots on YLF before. I do like the looks of them. The heel height may just verge on too high, but the platform probably makes it ok. I get ball of foot pain I have almost totally eliminated by giving up heels.

Gryffin- I’m ok with boots that nod to western, but don’t go too far in that direction. I should be able to wear a 10 then. So glad you’ve found such a dependable brand for yourself.

LP - I remember when you were selecting your color of these. I like the looks of them. I can’t remember if you picked my color choice. Ha ha. They look really nice. Prime makes it much easier to try. ETA - looked back and it was a different shoe i was thinking of on color selection.

I use my Thursday Boot Co Captain boots for outfits like this. They're a 1.25" heel and gorgeous leather. They're sort of combat-lite, or prairie/granny-grunge, depending on how you style them. Mine are a dark burgundy, but they do come in black, tan, etc. And they're available through Amazon Prime now!

delurked the kilty fringe is totally removable! I like it but many have take it off. It's threaded through the laces, so very easy to detach if that is the issue. Ariat runs long. I am a solid 7 M, I take a 6.5 M in ariats. They also come in widths, I'd say they are true to width. There is absolutely no toe crunch, they are most most faithful boots, I have several types but this and the H2O extreme which is waterproof are my favorites. Leather is soft but incredibly sturdy - this is only my second pair and I've worn them for decades - I have 2 new in reserve just in case.

I love the flouncy skirt + refined stompy boots look. The red find is my current combat boots. They seem refined to me because of the fitted ankle. I've heard Timberlands are very comfy--they ought to be, because they began as work boots. And the Unsisas had good reviews but the red wasn't red enough for me). They're on the refined side, but the metalware gives them edge, imo. All are available in black.

Janet - sounds like a romantic evening. I think I’ll do a skirt and stompy boot tomorrow, but it won’t be with a combat boot just yet. I’m not sure how hard I want to work to find a pair for myself. I may try a few suggestions here and leave it at that. Too lazy to work too hard for it. My winters allow for this look just fine.

Gryffin - I see the Merrell does come in a 10.5. Do you find Ariat to run short or long? I’m debating if I like the fringe/western part of that boot. It seems narrowest on the foot though.

Suntiger - lots of inspiration to be found round these parts.

Gryffin- Frye boots I always feel between sizes in. I often could use a 10 1/2, which is annoyingly rare considering how many women have a need for that size. I love tights and such with skirts and boots. I’ve had some medical reasons that tighter bottoms don’t work right now, but I’m hoping that’s not off the table permanently. It’s a look I like a lot. Thanks for the boot recos. I’m going to look closer to see if one might work for me. By looks alone, I like the Ariat best. I have some Merrell hiking boots that work well for me.

Christina- I have some Blondo waterproof boots that ended up not being as comfortable as I had hoped. That’s why I considered the Born waterproof ones. I’m going to give the Blondos one more try before moving them on. The teal boots come in black, and my similar ones to those are my BOC boots I’ve had for quite some time. That’s why I’ve sat on my hands to stop myself from getting more boots. However, if I could find a dressier combat boot, I could convince myself those are different enough to pursue. Plus, finds of other boots I own. None are sleek looking except the Naturalizer sock booties. Most of my boots are wider through the shaft, and some closer to a mid calf boot.

I look forward to seeing the combo of skirt and combat boot. My foot shape sounds similar, and I also use Superfeet insoles. Not copying you on that one - have used for years.

delurked - welcome to my world!! Although I usually wear leggings or skirted leggings but I also wear black tights. The ariat heritage lacers are really sleek, ABS footbed so uber comfy and supportive, wear like iron very elegant with the kilty which btw is removable. The Frye Julia comes with and without the shield but I wanted more of an army look for that, very comfy and well made - both very low heel. The Allsaints Lucie is the mother of the dressy version (the photo I don't have a link) - pointy toe, fabulously comfy and those straps - when you need the dressy version this is it! I think the katy which is very similar is still available on the allsaints website. But I recommend also looking at the Merrell chateau mid lace - this is not a heavy boot, it is not heavily lined, it is sleek and it has a 2" heel with a 0.5" platform - it feels less than 1.5. It's waterproof but sometimes you want a little heel, it's the dressiest hiking boot ever. I wear the ariat and merrell the most, the lucie for dress up and the frye gets tossed in to break it up. All highly recommended.

Angie - I’ve worn born for years, so could see starting there. They aren’t always very refined though. I will examine the boots more carefully to see what might work for me.

Suntiger - love the term worldwide hunting ground”. I definitely have found great items based on what works for others here. Hopefully others have found things based on my comments too.

Those teal boots are really cute. I must examine my boots again. I decided I had enough, except I don’t have the combat category covered.

delurked, you are stalking me, since I have start skirt in navy too I am flattered, though.

Those two boots are my MOST comfortable ones. The teal ones are the most comfy of the two, but the black are of course more versatile. I also use a Superfeet insole with both boots. I have a medium to low volume foot and the Born boots have room for a high volume foot, so the insole fits well and provides the additional shock absorption I've needed lately.

Now I want to pair my tulle skirt with my combat boots. Maybe next week when I'm wearing dark neutrals again! ETA - here is an example of how I might try to wear it, though I haven't tried pairing these pieces yet.

Thanks Sterling, Vanessa and Krissy.

Rachy - I would definitely wear with short sleeves. I need to figure out some proportions for tops with my skirts. I have mostly longer tops than seems to work for skirts, so want to find a few shorter. I hesitate to say cropped because I want my torso fully covered. Or perhaps slimmer tops to balance fuller skirts.

Its not stalker like! With a worldwide hunting ground we need to know where the best game are to be found :)
I like the teal boots! Theyd be a fun addition to lots of outfits.

Lisap - this looks like a great combo. I’d totally wear. I have absolutely no need for cashmere, but it sounds cozy to me. I mentioned above I got the black BR skirt in finds. Trying not to duplicate too much with too many black skirts and dresses, but black is much easier to find than other colors

Christina- I’ve got or tried a couple skirts I’ve seen you in, plus considered two boots you’ve gotten this year. (Does that seem stalker like ) I own the BR skirt, which I’d love to pair up with combat boots. But I definitely need a lot of foot support. I haven’t tried either boot. Which do you find more comfy?

This look is definitely for me. Short sleeves would make it summery...
