I have donated over half of my clothes already, &amp; have already taken about half of what I have left to Mexico. Thankfully the climate, while humid, isn’t always brutally hot. It’s breezy &amp; cooler for 6 months out of the year, which is one of the reasons my husband &amp; I chose to move there. We can get outdoors a lot more, which is very important for staying active &amp; independent. I do have a lot of polyester, but I also have lightweight cotton &amp; cotton/poly/rayon blends. Everything I have works well there. We vacationed there a few times before we decided to buy, &amp; the trips we have made since buying the condo have each been for 3 weeks—one in July, the hottest month, &amp; one in December, one of the coolest months. I have the absolute best walking shoes, made by Gravity Defyer, which work well in managing the chronic back &amp; knee pain I have. I wear them every time we go out walking for several miles at a time because they’re super comfortable &amp; supportive. I have purchased a few lightweight cardigans (not sweaters) for times when I need a third piece to look dressier, &amp; of course a light windbreaker &amp; open front sweater cardigan. Only one jacket is going. Chunky sandals have become a mainstay for me too, as well as natural fibres up top (it may dry fast, but there's nothing worse than the smell of sweaty polyester tops - TMI? Sorry!) I did take a few Alegría &amp; Clarks platform sandals &amp; heeled closed-in shoes to dress appropriately for special events. It just didn’t work for us anymore and my husband and kids didn’t have the same attachment that I did. It went to a good home and what more can I ask for? I have an Ethan Allen bedroom set in one of our girls’ rooms that I’ve had since I was 12. I have one of my mom’s love seats, too. It’s been reupholstered a couple of times. On the bright side, all of the beachfront condos where we bought come furnished, &amp; after looking at so many of them, I was relieved when we found one that checked off all our boxes. The furniture is really nice &amp; top quality. I think that’s because the sellers lived there. Most condos have Ikea furniture because they are vacation rentals. It wasn’t easy at the beginning, but the more I decluttered, the more I wanted to get rid of. I heard someone say that we should think of our belongings as inventory that has to be managed. It got a lot easier when I changed my mindset. We’re almost there. Our house is currently on the market, &amp; I’m glad we decluttered because it’s easier to keep clean. And it’s not like my home ever looked cluttered. It’s that there are a lot of big closets &amp; built-in bookshelves &amp; cabinets, even in the basement. Thanks to amazon.com.mx I was able to order things for the condo when we were there in December. That made things a lot easier.</p> <p>Wardrobe wise, I’m switching to wide legged pants &amp; gaucho pants for the heat &amp; humidity. That change has meant buying some new tops that go better with wide legged pants than the tunics I wear with skinny jeans. Also, with all my back, leg &amp; knee pain I have switched to Alegría sandals. I’m susieq, back with a different username because it’s been such a long time since I posted that I forgot my login information. </p> <p>For months on end I have been donating, selling &amp; tossing everything we don’t need for our move to Mexico in June. We are only taking 4 suitcases &amp; 2 backpacks, so practically everything has had to go. Fortunately, we have made 2 previous trips with the same luggage each time, &amp; the condo we bought is furnished, so it’s not as bad as it seems. I did have to come to terms with having to part with a few prized possessions &amp; creating a different wardrobe for the tropics, but developing a more minimalistic mentality has been a good thing for me. </p>
