As for everyday dressing, I ALWAYS use my 3 way mirror. If I'm out and I don't have one I'll pull out a makeup compact mirror and look over my shoulder into a bathroom mirror. I have to know what's going on on all sides this also saves people from having to tell me there's lint on my dress or a baby threw up down my back

Manidipa, I'm glad you like views from the round! I haven't posted WIW in a while but I do it this way and thought I was being annoying. We are seen in 3D so I want to know how I look in 3D and attempt to flatter my figure accordingly!

1. she is an hourglass
2. Yes, people can look different from different views. I think Angie works from the front view mainly. Like Andrea, I look more pearish from the side (and for the same reason) and use some of the pear recommendations, as well as some of the rectangle recs.

This short-waisted hourglass will be flattered by short knit miniskirts, tank tops (no bra, natch), and 27 eyelet Doc Martens in her choice of colors.

Obviously. ; )

Sewing my own clothes for years has helped me think about how i look 'in the round'. Although, frankly, i don't think a lot of clothes are designed with this in mind. I'll often add a little extra fitting or detail to the side or back of a garment to overcome this oversight (!?!?).

I find that better quality shoe designers, on the other hand, quite regularly design shoes that look great and have eye-catching details from all angles. I especially love heels that make the ankle look small and emphasize the curve of the calf from behind. I've heard the same opinion echoed by a # of shoes salesman, as well (pfft! may as well enjoy your work!)

"THIS IS NOT A FANTASY!
THEY DWELL AMONG US!!"

Goodness gracious, Mr. Crumb! hope he and the missus are loving life over in France, steph

Well, she is def short-waisted, because she's all legs. She's, well, chunky? R Crumb is famous for his muscular he-women. If you read the comics he draws with his wife, Aline Crumb, he's all about her round butt and big muscular legs. When she loses weight he's devastated.

I'd call this "amazon" a short-waisted hourglass. She has shoulders and hips that are roughly the same width with a defined waist that is high up on her body.

I feel like I often look different in photos than in the mirror. Some of that is because I tense up in photos. Candids are always much more flattering! LOL

I posted in another thread that face-on I am a rectangle with hourglass tendencies however from the side/according to measurements I am a pear because my booty is much rounder than my chest is full. But I do believe those body types are meant to account for front view mainly.

IK...maybe compact ??? It is true about the waist. It is funny that "blocky" is the first thing that popped into my mind.

Really? I don't think of that as blocky at all. She has a waist! She looks curvy to me. R Crumb loves big, curvy women with big calves and boobs. It's his thing.

Hmmm...interesting questions. She IS very "blocky" ! She reminds of pumped up female wrestlers. I have only posted a few pictures here...but I can tell you that I have been shocked....SHOCKED when I see myself in photos vs. the mirror. I don't know why. But I seem shorter, stubbier, more disproportionate in pictures. LOL !

I think that most people are not consistently shaped. In fact, I believe, that reason models are plucked out of the crowds to be models is because their symmetry is such a freak of nature and out of the norm, that they stand out.

Hmm, interesting. I definitely look different in profile than I do from the front. It's why I feel like an apple grafted onto an hourglass. From the front I look more or less hourglass shaped, but my belly sticks out like an apple from the side. Generally I dress for the front view, I guess in part because I really dislike looking at the profile view.

This is clearly nothing new, but I just came across this: http://retrorambling.files.wor....._crumb.jpg

Fun questions to ask: What basic body type would you say this is? How should the amazon dress?

I found it intriguing that she looks blocky from front and back, curvy in profile. How many of us are like that in RL, I wonder --- one shape head on, maybe something else from behind, different from the side...?

I also wonder whether relying on a mirror to review our appearance (as opposed to say a candid camera from all angles) leads us to bias ourselves towards dressing to platter only our head-on image. That's why I'm always impressed by those of you who post side and back views --- you're obviously thinking 'in the round'. How much do you consider your back or side view when dressing up on an everyday basis though, when not stopping to query or record your WIWs?
