Thanks Aquamarine - I will check out the Harpers too. I have a pair of white AG that I like (though they are a size too tight right now) - I will see what cut those are. Maybe the Harpers will work for me.

Gigi - good tip; can't hurt if I don't fall in love with these options.

kkards - thanks - I thought cigarette jeans were also shorter - ankle length?

Kathie - thanks, I'll add them to the list to find.

I have about six pair of jeans on the way to me; I'll report back when I've tried them on. Thanks all!

I can sympathize, as I just don’t like the way skinnies look on my calves. I bought a pair of DL1961 a couple years ago. (I think Coco style- non-distressed, dark wash.) They’ve held up well, and I’ve been super happy with the fit.

not an item specific recommendation, but try looking for cigarette

jeans, which many labels are using as a way to make straight leg seem "new" (or at least thats why i think they are doing it)

I don't have any suggestions for where else to try, but I did want to suggest going ahead and ordering the Madewells while you look elsewhere. Your credit card won't be charged until the item ships, and sometimes some of the stock comes in much earlier than anticipated. In fact, I just received some jeans from Anthropologie that were supposed to be backordered until April. So you never know.

I would also keep checking the Gap website in case there are returns or the items you like are restocked.

The AG Harpers are a mid-rise straight leg. I liked them so much, I purchased a second blue pair in another wash, and just recently added the black to my wardrobe. They are so soft and comfortable and really forgiving for weight fluctuations.

What great suggestions!

Janet, thanks for the tip about Lucky jeans. I used to have some years ago and liked them a lot. I ordered two pair of the sweet straight to try. I don't mind a little stretch developing during the day ever since I discovered invisibelts!

Stylefan, thanks for the COH tip. I tried on a pair last year in Anthropologie and loved them - super flattering - except they were a size too small and I never could find the size up. I'll have to give them another shot at the Anthro & Nordstrom near me. I haven't looked at Paige before - I'll take a look.

And Toban, thanks for the Talbots tip. I never would have thought to look there for jeans!

Oh, I almost forgot about the COH Elsons. I have those too. They run LONG! I actually split the side seams in mine to make them a slight bootcut, which works well for me.

Talbots has a great dark wash straight leg jean, which should be available in tall/long. I love mine.

I have two pairs of Levis that are mid to high rise and straight legged. One pair is a dark wash and one pair is a mid blue wash. I also had a pair of Citizens of Humanity that was mid rise and a dark wash. They were straight legged. The style was called Elson and it is hard to find. Some of the Citizens Emmersons BF jeans are a higher rise and a darker wash. I just ordered some.
Have you looked at Paige jeans?

I've been a bit frustrated by this as well.

My last pair of straight leg jeans came from Lucky Brand (I think they were called "Sweet Straight"?). They have long lengths, which is good (for me too!), and good non-distressed washes. My only quibble is they seem to stretch out quite a bit with wear as the day goes on. Not a huge problem for me right now as my weight is up and I don't mind things being loose for a change, but just a warning in case that's something that would bother you.

I've been tired of my skinny jeans lately and have been looking for straight leg jeans. I haven't been finding much. In the last few years my successful denim purchases have been from GAP and Madewell. GAP's couple of styles are sold out in my size, Madewell's are back-ordered for months. I'm looking for a non-crop length, ideally in a tall or long length, in a non-distressed wash, in a medium to high rise. Have any of you encountered any good options that sound like this? Thanks!
