Yeah, I agree with the general opinion here: Hunter wellies (or any kind of unlined rubber boot, really) are not the best for really cold weather. Yes, thick socks or the fleece liner helps, but still, I never wear mine in the snow. Brrr.

They do look cute with a short skirt and tights in the rain, though. As for how professional they look, I think it depends on what you do for work. They're stylish for wellies, but they're still wellies! If it were me, I'd wear them to work, then change out of them when I got there.

Me and my friend wore them all last winter...ugg's as well..(of course they got ruined). I loved them. But my favorite were my North Face Nuptse Fur boot, very warm and they didn't slip all over the place. It's a nice heavy winter boot, but it still looks girly and feels light and sleek, not all heavy and bulky..good luck finding something, but the Hunters are warm and cute.

Thanks for all the responses! I live in the US Midwest, and have been wearing La Canadienne boots that are waterproof and warm. I am looking for a new pair of boots because my La Canadienne's only go to mid-calf, and I'd like to wear the boots with skirts. I am trying to find some that are leather, knee-high, with good traction but not a high heel. You would think that wouldn't be too hard, but for some reason every shoe I have found has something wrong with it (suede instead of leather, square toe, heel too high, etc). It snows a lot here but it doesn't get super-cold.

I am smart enough to know that wellies are not good winter boots. But because they are so cute, I was letting the Zappos comments about their suitability in snow convince me otherwise. I guess it is back to the drawing board!

Louise, thanks for the tip about the glossy boots. They are so cute! I'll also revisit Jean's thread.

Thanks everyone!

I've lived in a cold, snowy climate (US Midwest) for years, and if it's snowy and cold enough to be snowy, you really need a boot that's waterproof, lined, and with a sole that has traction. I agree with other posters--a wellie, while waterproof, doesn't have the warmth or the grip you need in snow.

In North America, Canadian makers Bastien, Santana, and La Canadienne all make good boots for snow, and they have dress boots. Brands like Timberland are also good in snowy weather, but more casual.

Even with a lined boot, you may want some wool or cashmere socks for extra warmth in colder weather--leave room for the additional layer!

I haven't worn mine in the snow yet (it had dissappeared by the time they arrived last year). I also bought some fleecy insoles and wellie liners which i intend to wear in them in the snow. I don't think i'd wear them under trousers as the hems would still get wet. I would wear them with tights and a skirt but it might be a bit cold. When i wore my old wellies last year i wore skinnies tucked into them to walk to work then changed outfits at work x

Edit have you seen the glossy ones?http://www.uttingsoutdoors.co......let-w23616 I'm lusting after the violet ones but don't need another pair of wellies (i have 2!)

2nd edit- Do you get a lot of snow? If you do i'd suggest looking for thicker boots like jean is looking for at the mo. I'm in England so we only get about a week of snow if i'm lucky and working in a school we usually have schools closed for a couple of those days so i manage with wellies. If we got prolonged periods of snow i'd get a waterproof fur lined leather boot. Here's jeans thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....h-traction

I've worn Hunters in the snow and they definitely keep you dry - how warm depends on what is under them. I didn't have a good snowboot option last year and so I wore these with heavy socks (haven't tried the fleece liners). I was warm enough, but I didn't try it on our -40 days. It would depend on where you live and how cold your winters get.

Oh! I've worn Hunters in the snow. They keep your feet completely dry but not very warm in my opinion. My 20 eyelet Docs were a hundred times better for snowy, bitterly cold days . You need snow boots for the snow. Perhaps others will chime in about this too.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Hunter boots in the snow? I know they are waterproof and that you can buy the fleece liners to keep your feet warm. Are the liners necessary? Would wool socks work too?

If you have Hunter boots, do you think they look professional enough to wear under trousers to work, or even with a skirt and tights? I realize they are rubber boots, but they do look quite stylish in photos I have seen. I am considering either the Merlot color or the black.

Still on the hunt for stylish, knee-high, work-appropriate boots for snowy weather...
