I am going to try these! I have used the contact lens cases but for some products, a lighter weight and disposable option would be great.
I'm not opposed to buying stuff at destination, but you don't always have the right store handy, at the right hour of day, that carries items and also, I generally like tried & true products for travel ( which is often for a family event or professional deal, so not a camping adventure, for example ) , so no eye or skin reactions. But if I want to try something fun I can.

Interesting idea, I may try that on my next trip.

I take underwear that washes and dries easily and quickly. Of all the things I pack, underwear is one of the least bulky! I'd rather take good, comfortable ones (they're by Ex Officio) and wash them in the sink than suffer through old stretched out ones just so I can pitch them before I go home.

I just came back last night from a long trip and had noticed Suzy's tip and made a note of it. Thanks Chris for picking it up and reminding me now that I am home. I always struggle with the same and will definitely try this system on my next trip. I will also test the contact cases, another great idea.

I have those little bags but never thought about putting gels/creams in them; I love that idea. I have sample sizes of a lot of things but there are always products that I have to transfer into a travel size. This seems easier since you can just toss them at the end.

If you are trying to conserve space and/or weight, those pill pouches will do nicely! But I did want to point out that I NEVER put my stuff in a quart size bag, and it certainly wouldn't fit if I tried. I just use my regular toiletry case in my carry-on, don't remove it or anything, and I've never gotten any grief.

Have a great trip!

Great discussion, everyone. We all have different lists of "must-haves" that have to fit into that 1 quart liquid bag when flying, so it's great to have all these different options.

This is a great idea for short trips. I also recommend non-spillable small jars from the container store:
https://www.containerstore.com.....2d?product
A bit less fussy to fill, and they really don't leak.

Fantastic idea! I think I'd better try it for the gym or swimming pool, first.

As for underwear, my grandmother put the fear of G-d in me about being in an accident and what would medical personnel think. So, occasionally commando? Within the realm of possibility. Sleek men's boxer-briefs? Whenever I feel like it. But worn out panties? I'd need to be a little more certain there's no afterlife and that my grandmother isn't monitoring my delicates choices. I'm a bit envious of those of you she isn't tracking, and the practicality of your very resourceful packing hack!

Style fan the tiny scissors I'm referring to are not even 2" long and come in the tiny sewing kits some hotels provide. They just barely cut thread, so no threat to anyone DH has a small pair of children's craft scissors that are a bit bigger - he never gets questioned on them.

I save up Sephora and other samples , gwp's etc and use those for travelling. I even do it with perfume. I throw out whatever is left over unless I've become really fond of it. My one challenge is hair styling product - wax, cream etc. They never seem to make them in mini-sizes, thus my hair kit is always bigger than I would like to be.

SuzyQ2 I've tried all of those other things too! And you are right they are a pain to clean. Plus some of the tiny plastic jars crack easily. I imagine it's so much easier to just pack full sized containers and check bags....but i always seem to have a reason I don't want to do that

LOL, Suzy. I also have a stash of old underwear just for taking on trips and throwing away. I've thrown away other old pieces of clothing to make room to bring something back. Love and will try the wee plastic bags. I have a big bunch for storing earrings or beads. The little bags and small containers can be found in the beading section of craft stores.

Your welcome and I hope it works for you as easy as it does for me. I've tried tiny plastic jars, eye contact cases, plastic pill by the day containers, all are a pain to clean once you're home. The pouches are by far the easiest for me.
Of course I'm also the one that takes my old undies on my trips and tosses after wearing.

Lisa my trip is 11 days long. I used these pouches for only a few products like foundation, tinted moisturizer, concealer, and hair styling cream, where I only use a little bit every day. I put 11 days worth into one pouch, so I don't want to be turning it inside out every day, hence the spatula. I suppose should have tried this on a short trip first but what the heck The world won't come to an end if I can't wear makeup until I find a drugstore and I'm bringing separate sun block in original containers.

Chris, easy way to get your lotion or whatever out is to just turn the little baggie inside out. And you do need to make sure the cosmetic isn't something that degrades when exposed to light.

It is indeed a great idea . I'm still skeptical of my own ability to do all of the prep work, and I do envision a huge mess as a result, but my own system still takes up more room than I would like. I have bought every travel bottle known to man and rarely use them. I'll be interested to hear how this works for you, Chris.

Interesting. I have never tried this method, but I can see it would really free up space. I use various small containers to achieve my needs currently, but will consider and look forward to you reporting back after your trip.

I want to thank SuzyQ2 for mentioning "pill pouches" in LisaP's recent NYC travel posting (LisaPs posting is here
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ad-nyc-edn)

Here is what SuzyQ2 said:

When I fly I use tiny disposable pill bags with the zip tops for my cosmetics and lotions. They're about 2 in square and hold more than I need for a week long trip. I label them first, (they all look the same after day one) then pour or squirt a few dabs of sunscreen, foundation, hair product, night cream or whatever you need. Then I seal them and put the small bags into a larger zip lock bag, just in case of leaks, but that hasn't happened yet. On the last day, after getting ready I just toss what's left.

Brilliant! I had never heard of these but got some and am using them just as you describe SuzyQ2 on my upcoming trip. Since I'm going to be on a long flight I decided to be extra cautious about pressure changes causing leaks, so after I sealed the "zip" part I folded each one over and taped with scotch tape. I also packed one of those tiny scissors that come in sewing kits in case the tape is uncooperative, and cut myself a tiny plastic "spatula" from an empty cottage cheese container to make it easier to get the stuff out. I'm also going to use them to pack vitamins!

I found a pack of 50 for under $5 at CVS. Here is a find from Amazon so you can see what they look like.

Thanks so much SuzyQ2!
