I've had my eye on that flatteringly cut Tommy Hilfiger striped top since Angie posted it, too! If you do get it be sure to post a photo, so I can live vicariously through you

I think you are making great choices, Bee, and I love the items you kept from the Nordstrom trunk. (New concept to me -- sounds like the contents are a surprise?) The Tommy Hilfiger top will be gorgeous on you. A bit more structured than some of your other pieces, but I think it would be a look you could rock with a skirt or wide pant in particular, bookended with those fabulous white loafers.

I did not get an opportunity to comment previously but totally agree with your decisions. Your new finds look fabulous and I definitely think you should try the Tommy striped shirt, this one has more contrast to my eye and I think it will really suit you and be versatile. I have a dress with those different angle stripes and it is so flattering because of this.

Thank you all for such great feedback. I've been pondering and styling the items during the week, and had some keeps and some returns:

#1 - kept everything. Already worn the jeans several times and they're very comfortable.

#2 - returned the shirt. I already had doubts about this one, and y'all confirmed them. I kept the pants, but haven't worn them yet.

#3 - kept the shirt. This decision was largely influenced by your positive feedback. The color is growing on me, and Bijou - I'll have to wear it with jeans in #1 now!

#4 - returned both shirts. The neckline was cut really wide and tended to shift sideways. Also didn't play nice with toppers. I will be returning the pants. Angie gave them a killer rating, so it is with a hurting heart. The length is awkward with any shoes I have. I tried a larger size, but it looked slightly clowny with the longer length. I'll be on the lookout for more cropped versions of this.

#5-6 - keeping them all. I am growing to prefer the red skirt over the leopard surprisingly! Both are total wins, and your feedback confirms it.

#7 - returned both. The top was really pretty, but not warm enough to wear to work on its own, and the color didn't click for casual days. The skirt was a rough decision, but realistically it was too dressy for work. I'm working on making my wardrobe more practical and highly wearable, and this was a bit too special occasion.

#8 - I thought I'd keep them both, but now leaning strongly towards returning both. The slip skirt is really hard to style for me. It does not lend itself well to tucking, and I don't have many shirts that work with it untucked. This makes it hard to style, and thus not very practical. The striped shirt is fine, but I prefer solids in #9.

#9 - keeping all. Total love and high wearability. Unusual amount of color for me, but it feels fresh and on trend.

#10 - I'm keeping the top. Wasn't 100% sure, but it adds some good drama and is easy to style. Good change of pace from simple V-necks as you say Bijou.

I also ordered a Nordstrom Trunk just for fun, and ended up keeping 2 new shirts (yellow and white) plus a pair of shoes! I'll have to take pictures later, but added them to the finds below for now. I'm also thinking really hard about ordering the striped Tommy Hilfiger from Angie's picks - what do you think?

Thanks again everyone for encouragement and honest feedback. It helps to gain perspective and sometimes confidence in my choices, and makes returning some items a bit easier!

Hi Bee

#1 jeans and shirts are FAB - LOVE these on you! Trust your instincts, because you are absolutely right to say these are a top pick.

#2 Agree with you - pants are good, but the shirt is not great - I say you can do better. I like a more fitted silhouette with wide leg pants. I have some wide leg pants and wear mine in the height of summer with a halter neck top.

#3 teal shirt is very pretty on you - would you wear it with your jeans in #1?

#4 I much prefer the pants in #2 to these in #4. I also don't like it when you need to do a fix before even getting to wear something - I like to think that I am getting quality, regardless of price point.

#5 and #9 - LOVE both of these skirts. I am a red and leopard print fanatic, so please take that into account. But WOW, you look fabulous in these...

#7 - I like this skirt and would wear it with neutral and brights, definitely something to play around with in your closet to see if you can make some great combinations.

#8 - this is a look that makes me think waitress - so sorry, not one I would keep.

#10 - love this top - please try with red and leopard skirts and the jeans - a very versatile piece because the sleeves make it more dressy than a regular t-shirt.

You make for a very good model - to be honest, EVERYTHING looks good on you - which is why you have the luxury of being picky and only buying things you love.

This is a great spring / summer capsule. It is always a treat to see your posts.

FWIW, I’m another fan of your hair and think you look quite “kempt” in your casual, oversized looks and like the v-necks, too! I love it all.
I’m not a big jewelry or accessories person, but I wonder if a necklace might be a nice touch with the skirt/tee looks? That being said, they are lovely as is.

Bee, one possible thing to consider about the purple skirt is whether it will stay pleated and not flatten on your bottom from sitting (if you sit at work). I would wear it to my workplace.....but I’m not sure if it would work in yours.

Another vote for the teal top! And for the one in #7 - worth it! I get the feeling that you & I have similar style goals & body shape (I've also been embracing my naturally curly hair (complete with fringe) these days) in that the skirts & trousers seem to look best with tucked in tops - but that may just be my own stylistic bias. You wear the bias cut midi slip skirt style better than I do, though!

PS - I have a pair of trousers like #4 & I felt the same way as you at first. It's grown on me now though, & my poison eye has largely been replaced by the versatility of being able to wear the length with different shoe types. You may need to play around with shoes a little to find that sweet spot.

You look good in all of these, but when I reached the teal top I felt a sigh of relief and pleasure, like getting home after a hard day or taking the first sip of a perfect cup of tea. It must be your colour! And looks equally good both ways you have styled it.

Thank you all so much for feedback! Staysfit - I'm thinking about keeping all the skirts, but was debating about the purple one. It seems a bit harder to style, though I love the texture and shape. Do you think it would be appropriate to wear regularly to a business casual office, maybe dressed down with a chunkier shoe? I don't want to stock up for special occasions, because they don't happen much realistically.
I am definitely on the lookout for workhorses. Duplicating makes it easy to have a decent amount of basics with some variety in a shape and style that I like, without spending too much time shopping. I do major duplication in underwear, but less so in outerwear. I gravitate slightly towards uniform dressing and enjoy the simplicity it provides, but still enjoy some variety. I think once I have a decent baseline wardrobe where I don't feel like I have nothing to wear so to speak, I wouldn't feel the need to duplicate as much. You do bring up a really good point about dressing preferences, and I will mull on this concept some more!

Among the skirts I like the red and the plisse skirt best. They add color and variety. They seem to accomplish your goal of a softer, more feminine look. Are you keeping all the skirts or returning some?

I agree with your assessment of the mom jeans. They look amazing!

In terms of the duplicated tops, are they a style that is essential to your wardrobe? Maybe I missed something in your previous posts. Is your preferred method for style/dress to use a uniform? I rarely use duplicate items in a different color from the original unless the item is an absolutely essential element of my style, a workhorse, or a basic. I gravitate towards similar silhouettes, but I believe variety keeps things fresh and interesting.

Those jeans really are fab. My other favourites are the teal blouse, the wide leg pant in #2, the red skirt, and the leopard skirt -- which is particularly killer with the orange tee. Can't wait to see your shoe haul!

I’m not sure about a blouse in #2, the rest is fine. Tucked in tops look fab on you. My own preference is to try all outfits with shoes, easier to understand if the length of the bottoms is right.

Hi all, as I've written before, I've am having a bit of a style crisis. I've been taking in your all's recommendations, reading everyone's posts and Angie's blog on current fashion trends and advice archives like a mad woman. Of course, thinking critically about the direction that I want to take and willingness to experiment led to a huge trying and buying bonanza.

I've been liking slouchier, oversized, more androgynous styles, but since wearing my hair naturally curly, I find that they often make me look unkempt instead of cool. I played around with various sillhouettes, and I think I am digging a more romantic look actually! Somehow it feels more balanced with my hair and body. Softer, thinner, drapier fabrics, more feminine shapes, defined shoulders and waist, less chunky sillhouettes. This is a bit unexpected, but I'm embracing it and seeing where it goes.

I particularly wanted to get some clothes to wear for work (business casual), since I started finding myself having "nothing to wear." I've done a few big destashes lately, purging stuff I never wore, stuff that didn't look good, stuff that didn't feel good, etc. Not much got left behind haha! I prefer long-sleeved top + pants or skirt combo, so I don't have to worry about a topper. I find toppers difficult for me to style and upkeep (cardis look worn out so quickly, hard to find the right proportions, blazers need dry cleaning, denim is too casual). I generally appreciate simplicity, so I don't want to have to match too many things while I'm on this road to finding my best style, but maybe eventually I'll get there.

I shopped at Madewell, Nordstrom Rack, and Old Navy.

All feedback is highly appreciated, especially re clothes I'm on the fence about. Let me know if you find any items, colors, or silhouettes particularly flattering or unflattering, and all suggestions in general are highly welcome! I only took the tags off the mustard tee in #9 (I wore it already), so anything is fair game.

#1 - "Mom" jeans - I think they are my favorite find from this bunch. They fit so well it feels like I've won the lottery. It has some distressed details on the butt and around the edges, not visible in the picture. The shirts are dupes of each other (I doubled up a lot).
#2 - Drawstring wide legged linen blend pants - did not expect to like these as much as I did. I haven't worn this sillhouette in ages. Definitely on the fence about the shirt. Love the fabric and drape but the weird detail in the middle makes it bunchy tucked or untucked, though maybe because of the drawstring in the middle. Also, I don't know if the stripes have a bit of a prisoner uniform feel to it?
#3 - Pants from #2 and skinnies from the closet. Teal blouse is very close to my eye color, so I think it may be flattering? I'm on the fence about it, but looking at the pictures makes me lean towards keeping it. Feels versatile, though a little more business-y than I normally go for.
#4 - Wide legged, high waisted pants. This is quite a bit trendy. I like the silhouette, but the length feels slightly awkward. Also I noticed a small seam rip at the crotch, which I can fix - the question is, does it seem like it's worth it? Tees are dupes of each other in different color.
#5 - Bright red midi skirt and workhorse black top. I generally don't go for color, though I do like red, and I especially like that's it's bright! I tried stepping out of my comfort zone with things I tried on, and I think it's not too bad? I have a feeling it will look really good with sneakers.
#6 - Same skirt, two twin tops in blue: dark and light. Inspired 100% by Angie.
#7 - I really like the texture and silhouette of this skirt, but not entirely convinced by the color. I think maybe it would be better with white or black? I'm also on the fence about the top. It was a bit more than what I normally pay for for a top, since it's made of silk. It has such a lovely feel, but again, not 100% about the color. Does the mutedness of it make me look washed out?
#8 - A bias-cut skirt inspired by Thursday's blog post. I originally wanted the spotted Madewell one, but it didn't look that great on me. This is in black satin-like fabric. Feels very classic, and can be dressed up or down. I'm not super excited about the striped v-neck, but it's a useful weekend staple that's not a solid. I really dislike the combo of these two items, so it was just to take the picture.
#9 - Leopard print! I am in love with this skirt. It's a twin of #5-6 and pairs well with just about anything in my opinion. I could live in this probably. The shirts are dupes of #8 in more trendy colors. I find that I'm really liking the vibrancy of color! Must be spring! :D

#10 - Edited to add - skirt from #7 with a "romantic" black tee with bubble sleeves. I don't know, I kind of like the drama of this top. The outfit makes me feel very "Greek goddess." :)

I also did a shoe haul (which you can probably see on the floor in some pictures), but this already turned out to be quite a bit of text, so maybe next time, and thank you for reading if you made it this far!
