That's great, Jenny Anne! I don't know that YLF has changed what I sew, but it certainly has affected how I put various things together. Before YLF, even if I had sewn the nicest jacket in the entire universe, it wouldn't have looked all that great, because I was a dunce when it came to styling things. I'm still a dunce, but getting better at putting outfits together and by extension, my home-sewn articles look better.

What really locked me into being a forever loyal YLFabber is when Angie did a post on taking the waist in on skirts by bringing them to the natural waist and alter so they don't roam all over the waist.....OMG...changed my world...:)
I focused on the fit of absolutely everything after that , and it must be impeccable not just ok.
I have been on the alteration path ever since and my sewing machine has never seen so much action!
EDIT to say: I am not a seamstress by any means, just basic sewing skills, but enough to do my minor alterations:)

I had bought a slew of patterns and fabric and was trawling sewing blogs for this and that when I stumbled across YLF. Thank goodness! I have abandoned patterns for boxy tops and cropped pants altogether. I 've modified shorts so they have a trimmer leg line. I've been so busy taking up skirts and letting down trousers and I've never been happier than I am now with the clothes hanging in my wardrobe. I am taking my time, ALL the time it takes, to get the fit right. With fabric, i am thinking carefully about print placement. I'd never heard of that before YLF! So yes,JennyAnne, I know exactly what you mean and I've bumped your post because YLFhas been and continues to be HUGELY important for my sewing.

That's great. Although I think you were already on the right track with those knit tops you've been making in all the right colors! I love the details you add, and love the direction you style is going, in general.

That's cool to know, JennyAnne. At this point, I wouldn't be that surprised to hear that YLF's had some influence on people's home decorating or cooking. At the very least, we're becoming more conscious about everything.

(BTW, I'll say it again....so jealous of your sewing skills!)

I know there are a few fellow seamstresses (and former seamstresses) out there who may chime in.

YLF has affected more than my clothes purchasing and coordinating. It's made a big difference in my sewing! I look at potential fabrics with the same eye I use to evaluate clothes in the store. Fabric doesn't come home with me unless it's perfect and I'm in love. Same for patterns - they have to be a style I love AND that will fit well into my style journey... no more tailored jacket patterns for me!

I'm sure it's no coincidence that I've had many more sewing successes than duds lately, which hasn't always been the case. Thanks, Angie and YLF commenters for making my hobby more fun. It's been an unexpected bonus!
