Thank you, Shiny, for being my personal shopper. I bought it all -- burgundy lace skirt, black/blue brocade skirt, and the animal print blouse. I think I have my black/navy/cobalt/burgundy capsule now -- especially since I bought the H&M moto last week.

Not as adventurous as Shiny's suggestions, but I would try it with more cobalt & black: open over a cobalt & black colourblocked shift dress, or buttoned up over a pencil skirt (try layering over a blue tank or turtle, or bright tights, if you don't have both colours in the skirt).

Or I'd go all menswear: buttoned over a white shirt, with black skinnies or cigarette pants, with Cons or loafers, and a fedora. (But that's probably more "me" than particularly of-the-minute. I guess what I mean is, I want your cardigan!)

Black and white animal print would totally work. There is also a gorgeous brocade black & cobalt skirt at AT right now, which could work with that cardigan too. (And would work with a burgundy top).

Revisiting that lace skirt, on the site... I don't remember it being that short when I tried it on. So, untucking may not work... you'll have to experiment. I forget if you are petite or regular. If you are petite, you might try it in regular for a longer (knee length) look. The lace skirt is in an absolutely beautiful shade of burgundy -- the site doesn't do it justice.

I was thinking about an animal print blouse (though the usual boring black and white) with the cardi, but Jennifer, I think yours is a million times more interesting. I'll see if it's in my store -- they said 40% off regular price items today, so just maybe....

Great ideas already. I have a similar one (browns and greens though) and wore it last year with tweed slouchy pants. I'd try a stripe or pattern button down untucked with this and jeans or pencil skirt.

Taking notes... and I love that cardi! I have a similar one that I posted in my Pinterest copycat thread this morning. I don't wear it much anymore even though it's one of my faves. I want to try it with a pencil skirt!

Ann, I found that skirt to be very comfortable. Hope it works for you!

I bet it could work with white shirt; don't think it would tuck well, as the skirt fabric is light -- I would think it would show lumps. But untucked might work fine. If you want to tuck, you'll need a more silky type top.

Wear the cardi and white top when you go to try it on!

If you wanted to be really daring, this blouse (which I have) would work with that cardi too:
http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/p.....Color=1481
.... roll the cuffs back over the cardi sleeves, and scrunch way up ...

Also I am really liking red with burgundy. So red bag? Red booties? With that lace skirt...

Shiny, I'm in love with your #8 solution. I am off to try on that lace skirt. Think it would work with a white button down (untucked) instead of the denim shirt (which I don't own)?

(I also love all of your other ideas -- I aspire to be able to do that, someday. Thank you!)

.... for #8: Ann Taylor has a very nice lace burgundy pencil skirt right now. I nearly bought it myself. Keep thinking about it. Would totally work with this cardigan. Denim shirt, to dress it down, could keep the shirt untucked, button cardigan at waist only. Belting optional.

Brainstorming....

1) With slubby tee, slouchy bag, boyfriend jeans and booties.

2) With those black Gap skinny pants, over a denim shirt, collar popped. Not sure about footwear ... loafers?

3) With white collared top paired with colored jeans. Something unexpected, like yellow.

4) With patterned jeans or patterned skirt; mix patterns. Would look awesome over brocade bottoms, something with shine. Check out Jcrew for inspiration.

5) This would look nice with that Rachel Roy Tree print skirt. Add top in a splash of bright color underneath. Or a black turtleneck. Belt it.

6) I'd totally try this over my neon/hot pink pencil skirt, over my navy silk blouse. Cobalt booties. Snake skin bag.

7) You could also wear this buttoned up under a bright blazer. (I was just on some site that was saying mixing brights is on trend this fall). Dark wash denim. Scarf (pattern mix). Neutral booties/bag.

8) I'd try pairing with burgundy. I really like burgundy and cobalt together this year. Burgundy pencil skirt? Yes, this sweater and a pencil skirt may seem too classic, but if you get the colors right and on trend, why not?

9) How about wearing it open, over a sequin or sparkle top?

Cobalt is off the moment, so do put this back into circulation! I have a special place in my own heart for argyle. I'd very likely throw on a long strand of pearls... which may be a bit too classic... but I probably couldn't help myself. A layer of several long necklaces would be cool too.

I aspire to "Modern Classic with a Twist," but it's so easy for me to fall into "Classic with a Dash of Dowdy."

I really like this sweater and want to put it back into circulation, since I'm all about the black and blue mix this fall.

How would you add that modern twist?
