I'm glad to see many of the suggestions are things I already have in the closet. I might have to make it back to Zara sooner than planned ;)

Joy, I like the idea of the sweater but my sweater capsule is really tiny and in dire need of some updating.

Ms Loathsome, I have tons of bright colors. Several of the things you mentioned I already have, so I may try some of them. Thanks.

Vernie Jane, I have some booties (like those you show) but in a more taupe color I fear won't play well with the warmth of the blazer. I do have some black booties (higher shaft though, so the pant goes over the top). And I am still on the hunt for some cognac booties so we'll see.

Thistle, thanks. I'm glad the silk won't seem out of place. I've even thought of white jeans with either black booties or the cognac ones if I find them. This is a spinoff of one of Angie's posts Of course copycatting her will look fab!

LisaP, thanks. I don't have that color of a button up shirt, BUT I do have a chambray one that is pretty soft, I hadn't thought of that as an option and I bet it would work. Rescuing a rarely worn shirt would be a good thing.

RL, scoop necks always work for me. Some of my older layering T's are the Caslon deep scoop neck ones (in short and long sleeves, I loved them so much). So yeah, it could be another option.

I'd maybe try a low scoop neck, like a tank top even.

My favourite look for a jacket like this is with a menswear fine cotton shirt in pale chambray blue. I know that's not a dressy holiday look, but I LOVE that kind of pairing. So classic and chic with jeans, cognac, black etc.

Heh, Aida really nailed it! I don't think silk, especially in black, will look seasonally confused. Such a lovely fabrication!

I struggle with this color myself. A column of color under it might work as well, depending on what you have (black, white, pink, etc.).

I think a silk top that is a bit long would look great, in either cream, any pastel, or black would work really well. You could pair this blazer with so many things, but I think either dark jeans or black skinny jeans would look great, with some really cute ankle boots maybe something like these ones by Ash that I have been lusting after for months now...

The blazer is awesome. I actually think it pairs well with many bright colors, depending if you are open to wearing colors. The way the website styled it is fine, but actually rather somber to me. This olive/brown blazer would pair well with orange, red, yellow, mustard, lavender, pink, even hot pink. And of course all lighter neutrals: camel, taupe, ivory. Have fun!

I lost my first reply but will try again. What a beautiful jacket. It should be fab with an EF silk top. For warmth, could you layer a fine gauge wool sweater under the blazer?

For a different, more casual style, how about wearing the blazer with faded jeans and a graphic tee?

Oh Aida those are great ideas. Thank you! I was really hitting a wall.

I think it's a bit of a challenge due to the color as well. It's more in the brown / olive zone and most of my stuff is black and gray with bright colors and very little in this color area. Food for thought but I really liked it a lot so it could be an expander piece if I find what I can pair it with easily (and bonus already in my closet).

Oh! Just realized I have a black fluid top with sequin trim at the neckline. That could work... and I could wear my black booties (no need to hurry to get the cognac ones).

Thanks for getting the juices going!

I like the idea of the silk top, I'd certainly wear that pairing. I might also try a v-neck sweater (either something fine gauge or more texture rich or cabled), a fluid or oversized graphic tee, sequined tank, or a plaid shirt with smarter trousers. You could also experiment with something a bit sportier, like a henely hoodie or something.

I'm feeling the frump factor lately. Mostly due to not having a washer and dryer in the house and seeing laundry pile up. I'm down to slim pickings therefore not feeling so fab. Need to make time to do laundry, I know. The laundromat is just such a drag.

Anyway - I was in the mall and came across this blazer in zara. I like it and it fits well but I hesitate due to the color. It plays well with my hair and I intend to get a pair of cognac boots, but what kind of top would you pair this with? I'm still trying to figure out the whole fluid top thing. I tried on several tops at zara but the fabric quality made me immediately say no. I have dark denim jeans for bottoms - just need an idea of top to pair it with. I'm thinking of this for a small holiday party coming up (no need to be seasonal or holiday themed so I liked this as an option).

I also liked this due to the kinda equestrian vibe it has with the elbow patches. I saw Angie paired her blazer with a turtleneck but as I have literally no neck t-necks have never worked for me.

Would my EF silk top work? It's black and thin - would it seem too summery underneath?

Thanks in advance.
