Anya, good point. That would make a difference, since there really is no spring or autumn here... so not too practical of an investment.

I don't have them, but maybe they would be fun in spring/autumn with bare legs? As some kind of "nude pump"?

Cluadia, those are fabulous examples. #3 is killing me.

I don't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe for my boots, so I'll have to ponder a bit. Rita does rock her light boots, but she is better at bookending than me. Rita, your thoughts?

If you wear light colored tops or blazers (or cardigans) you'll be fine with light colored boots. If your top half palette is mostly dark, you may find light boots a challenge to wear.

Una, I love light colored boots. I have dark hair and own short ankle booties, mid-calf boots, and tall boots in light shades of suede and leather.

Think of them as an accent color if they are the lightest element in the outfit. There are plenty of examples on fashion bloggers sites of dark haired women wearing light colored footwear with all dark outfits and it looks great, stylish and chic. I'll see if I can round up a few examples and post them here.

As far as bookending goes, it is not just about the hair. It can be anything worn, even in small doses, on the top half that bring in a lighter tone.

I wear my shimmery cream booties fairly often, but I also wear taupe/cream/white quite a lot. I think that with your coloring and love of bright colors, it might be tricky.

Although I have lighter hair I have never worn light colored boots or shoes in winter. My winter clothes are darker and more muted. I'm open minded though, but I think it would be a problem to make it work. And I live in the SF Bay area! Come to think of it, I only notice women wearing dark boots/shoes around here. Well, except of course the ones who wear white sneakers year round.

I do believe in tossing out the old rules and if something calls to you, well try it out.

I love my new light-colored boots, but mostly it's because they bookend my hair. I think it would be trickier if you have dark hair, as you'd have to pay more attention to repeating the lighter color up top. I've included some of my outfits, below. In 1 and 2 the color of the boots is repeated in the top, but in 3 it's not, which I can get away with, but perhaps you couldn't.

How eerily timely -- I just listed a pair of taupe (dark beige/light tan) Fryes from last year that I only wore twice and didn't feel like myself in them either time

I've lighter hair than you, so could potentially bookend, but I usually wear dark bottoms (unless wearing color!).

The lighter boots were just one of those things I decided not to make myself get used to . . . Especially since I have no boot shortage in my closet (and neither do you, if I recall correctly

Those are lighter than my own personal preference, but I have a pair of camel ones which I've been wearing a lot, and I always love taupe boots, too. You can definitely work them in as long as you bookend with something light on top. So I'd say they're pretty useful as long as you can keep them clean.

Those are beautiful Una !!! I have a pair of Frye's in the sand color. I have struggled with the same thing. It actually takes me a lot of thought when I wear them. I am dark like you but very pale/pea soupish undertones ( I am not kidding ). So repeating the color near my face looks bad. Luckily I love scarves, so I can repeat the color as part of a colorful scarf. I also try to lighten up jewelry. I also like striped shirts ( with cream or white as a stripe color ). It was a bit difficult for me to get the hang of it to be honest, but I do really like it.

But you could also do what you did with your blue booties : the boot becomes the center of attention.

That was helpful.........not !

I have an ecru pair and did have a light tan pair until they died :(

Yes, they are tricky. But it's about being conscious and owning your choices. I have worn both with darker/bright tights even though it breaks the leg line. Now I've got skinny jeans, I love the ecru with those; the tan pair looked good with red tights.

I was going to post a pic but not sure if I'm off the mark as your link was to a page of boots, not just light ones?

Wow, those are pretty. I know if I owned them (in beige, I assume?), I'd pet them a lot and never wear them because all of my bottoms are dark!

I think to rock these in beige you need lighter bottoms, like paler skinnies - instead of black, eggplant, navy, etc., you'd need pale pink, orange, tan, etc. I know some people like to wear lighter boots with a light jacket, say, and maybe that would work - but I also don't own enough lighter *jackets* to make that work either!

Let us know what you decide!

I'd like to give them a try but how diverse are they, given my wardrobe and coloring? If you have a pair, how do you wear them?
