Thanks so much for the ideas! As far as being short, etc, everyone (myself in cluded) is just so use to seeing me in heels. So your right, it will just take sometime to get use to!
I guess I got hooked on heels b/c most of the time, you appear much slimmer!, especially with thick thighs!
Thanks again!
Heather

You're just not used to seeing yourself in flats yet. It always takes some time for our eyes to adjust to new styles. You just need to learn to embrace your petiteness instead of fighting it!

Also let me say this: When else everyone is in flats and sneakers, it's the person in stilettos that looks "ridiculous." I can't tell you how many times I walk through the train station or on campus and see women teetering around on 4" stilettos, and think to myself how silly they look because their footwear is just totally inappropriate. Urban college students don't need to be running around in heels, just like a mom at a baseball game doesn't. There's something to be said for dressing the part. Lately I've been seeing a lot more women wearing flats for the commute and keeping heels in a separate bag to change into at work, which is a great example of practicality and style going hand in hand. Heel dependence is not a good thing and your feet will pay for it. Give them a rest! Once you get used to the look you'll wonder how you went all that time without it.

I have a 4ft 10 client and a few 5ft clients and they look great in flats. Make sure that you wear clothing that elongates your body. Make sure that you wear your pants at the correct lengths.

I love your thinking Becky. Dynamite comes in small packages!

I am curious as to why you feel ridiculous at your natural height? Is it because you are used to wearing heels all the time? I am your height (5'0") and NEVER wear a heel above 2 inches, and rarely above 1-1/2 inches, yet I feel very ... me. No one comments about how ridiculous I look (though they do feel free to comment on how short I am, which bothers me not at all, because it is true). I guess what I'm trying to say is be yourself. You are a petite woman and no heel height will change that. Embrace your uniqueness!

Have you ever considered wearing those high platform cork sandals? At first glance they all look uncomfortable but if you are careful to choose a style that has very little difference in height between the front part of the shoe where your toes are and the back of the shoe where your heel is, they feel just like flats and are surprisingly comfortable while adding to your height. I had such a pair of sandals a few years ago (the brand was Onex) and they were among the most comfy shoes I had. I had them on almost every day until the band holding the shoes to my feet wore out. It may be too cold now for sandals, but you might try it in the summertime.

I had previously asked about an alternative to heels at the ballpark. My friends and family agree I look rediculous in any type of flat. I think mainly b/c I am so short. Is there any secret clothing item (pants, etc) that I could try and pull off a pair of flats that wouldnt scream "LOOK, THE 7YR OLD IS ALMOST AS TALL AS HIS MOTHER?"
