I would add a smaller scarf tied around the neck in a subdued print, preferably one that morrors the colours of your hair and perhaps with a few dabs of bright colour in there. But then, my solution to almost everything is a scarf. ;o)

I do love the sweater on you though. I rather doubt I could pull it off so well.

I think this color works very well on you. I notice it makes the color in your glasses pop.

I really like those glasses too.

Congratulations on your first post. I bought a very bright orange jacket last spring and found that wearing it with grey or olive helps tone down the orange.

Esme I think this color is quite stunning on you. If you do feel the need to subdue it a bit, the suggestions above all sound good. It is fine enough to layer under a jacket or cardigan? That way you get a hint of color. A thick, long scarf (as per Shevia's suggestion) is the way I would go.

Welcome to the group! I think this is a great sweater on you, fits well, the color looks good on your skin! I think the black scarf overwhelms a bit and hides the orange too much. Try a lighter weight scarf perhaps? or even add a shirt with collar under to gt distance from your face if needed. I hope you will get used to the bright and wear it with sass after a bit ...i found that after some time on YLF, I got used to color and now cannot live without!

I think this sweater looks good on you color and all. I actually like it better without the big scarf that sort of clutters it up.

Personally, I think you do have the coloring to pull it off, but if you're not comfortable with this look yet, I would layer over or under with navy, ink blue, and any of your neutrals (eg, denim/chambray, white/cream/taupe, black/gray). The basic idea is to get a "buffering color" between your face and the sweater.

"Over" layers: shawls (like you have here!), scarves, vests, blazers, ...
"Under" layers: button-up shirt, turtleneck, ...

But, again, you look great in this color. I especially love how your glasses pick up some of the orange: beautiful!

I'm with Rae -- Is there such a thing as "too bright?" You're wearing the "color of the year," so hold your head high and call yourself a trendsetter! You've gotten great ideas already. Can't wait to see how you decide to wear it!

You can layer under it with a nice cream or chambray ( light blue) button up shirt. Pop the collar, get those cuffs out a la Angie and you are in business. It would look super cute!

The pullover looks really nice esme and congrats with your first post! Welcome :)

I LOVE this colour with cobalt blue and inky blue. I vote add a cobalt scarf. I also love this colour with cream! I wear it with citron - but that might be too sour for you.

Gorgeous sweater and the fit is perfect. If you really don't like the sweater and it is all natural fibres you should be able to dye it successfully.

A wig! (just kidding) I think you've got a great idea with the scarf. The one in photo 2 tones down the sweater a lot, with the coverage over the shoulders and near your face. I'd try on lots of different scarves with it and see what strikes your fancy. Shabbychick brings up some color possibilities I wouldn't have thought of, and I imagine you'll find lots of things will work if you experiment with abandon.

I love your sweater, and I just thrifted one in a very similar shade. Too bright = no such thing for me. ;)

I actually do like the color with your hair - forum member Trasconna Shannon wears bright orange so well, and her hair is similar.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....nge-argyle

If you are still uncomfortable, though, you could try a gray, navy, or burgundy blazer over the top. A denim jacket or light blue scarf would also be pretty. I have really loved pairing my orange jacket with a light blue shirt.

oops i thought i wrote this already but i guess i didn't, so.....sorry if it's a duplicate! this is my first time posting, so i'm excited to see whether this will work!
recently bought a bright orange cashmere sweater at deep discount (non-returnable) from j. crew on-line. love the fabric and the shape but confess that the very bright orange is not my best color. however, i look forward to wearing it when the chilly weather arrives. ideas about how to style this sweater to de-emphasize it's brightness? it seems to look good with navy. a navy and orange scarf? a friend told me the problem was that it doesn't work with my salt and pepper hair---lol! not quite willing to color my hair just for this sweater!
