With the dark gray, go for a bright color like fuschia pink or berry pink color. Don't go with a dark color against the dark gray. Stay with bright colors like red, berry pink, turquoise blue. With the light gray, go with more pastel colors like mint green, lavender, baby pink, light aqua. You can even wear red with the light gray. Have a good day.

There really are no "shoulds." Just play around and see what combinations you like!

Most of the colours we've listed for tops could potentially look good with blue or black bottoms and a grey topper (of either shade). Here are a couple of ideas on Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/searc.....ts%20women

This one's a skirt, but the idea is relevant: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/458874649503099210/

Hi Suz, Ceit, MaryK, Joy, and DonnaF,
Thanks for your responses. It's great to have these lists of color combinations for grey.

I am still not too clear about the three color combinations. If I wear any of the grey cardigans with a top of any of the colors you've listed, what kind of color should the bottom be?

The pants in my wardrobe are neutral: black, dark grey, light grey and dark blue. I feel like the grey cardigans go only with the black and blue pairs of pants. What color tops would you wear with these combinations?

As Suz mentioned, the tone of the grey is important, and I do not feel like the grey tones in my wardrobe match well, so I can't combine my grey pants with the grey cardigans.

Thanks in advance.

Angie's blog last week showed us that gray can tone down blinding colors. It can help fall-ify summer colors and spring-fy winter colors, too.

In addition to what Suz, Ceit, and Mary have said, I'd add silver and gold metallics and aqua. I get lots of use in summer from a light grey cardigan and use a charcoal grey more in cooler seasons.

In addition to what Suz and Ceit have suggested, I love gray with apple green and coral!

Grey is a wonderful neutral but sometimes it can be difficult to get different tones of grey to play nicely together! If one has a blue undertone and one a greenish undertone they won't work so well in the same outfit. Having said that, grey looks amazing with SO many colours and neutrals.

I love it with:

Navy, ink blue, denim blues
White, cream, ivory
Taupe, camel, some browns, black

It's amazing with:

Yellow, gold, citron
Fuchsia, raspberry, cranberry red, tomato red, burgundy
Purple, plum, eggplant
Deep greens
Orange

I don't wear all these colours myself, so I have my favourite pairings -- but yours might be different.

You could always buy a top that included a bit of grey in it to tie the outfit together.

Hi all,
I am very glad I found this forum.

I recently bought a dark grey and a light grey cardigan from Old Navy. I should not have bought these because they are to be hand washed only.

However, at the moment, my dilemma is what color combinations to create with these items. I bought grey because I thought it will be easy to create outfit combinations, but now I am not so sure.

My current color combinations are:
3 outfits: black pants, white t-shirt OR a patterned black and dark grey top OR a burgundy color top, dark gray cardigan
2 outfits: dark blue pants, white t-shirt OR dark green top, dark green cardigan (or may be the light gray is better???)

Can you please suggest color ideas? I need two colors, appropriate for work, that will go with these shades of gray.

I also have light grey pants, but I do not think that it goes well with the dark or the light grey cardigan. What do you think? Will it be a good idea to wear light grey pants, a white t shirt and any of the grey cardigans?

Thanks in advance.
