Taffy, you are in great "cardi hands". I want to add you’d look beautiful in dirty blues and teals. Go for it.

Welcome Simone! I look forward to reading your own thread.

Simone, I love your name! I wanted to name my child Simone and the other one Simon but it didn't go well with the last name.
Taffy, you have 3 little ones? What a busy Mom. You look fabulous. The reason I asked about the neutral colors making you hair and skin tone pop, is because a home dec person advised me that to make the color in my rugs pop I should leave the sofa color more neutral. It works. You have beautiful coloring and you should use it to the fullest extent. I wish I had red hair.

I really liked that mosaic blue one too....it's actually a shade of green/blue that I don't already own....I'm drawn to the claret too, although I've never worn that color before. But it's not a bright or orange-y red, so I might be able to get away with it. I'll try it this weekend and find out

Shiny, I laughed at that date shirt story...I had roommates with a similar thing going on!

San, to be honest I can't think of anything cream or white I've worn next to my face other than exercise T-shirts! I get the most eye comments when I where a cornflower blue shirt, so that might be another vote for the mosaic blue! I'll have to try the cream one and see... It does make me a little nervous since It's white and hand wash and I have 3 little ones. THose clothes seem to live at the bottom of the laundry basket for a pretty long time!!!

Simone, everyone here is really nice (as you can tell!) I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Taffy, you have such gorgeous coloring! I second the teal, I think it would work the best for you.

Shiny, I love teal too, though I do not have any specific memories. While reading this post, I ended up ordering the cardigan in claret and that cowl top in teal. BF has just received a nice reward card for all the work clothes I helped him at buy BR, so he let me use it since I did most of the work for him :)

Simone, welcome! I am glad you love the site, we do too I think you can layer anuthing with a scoop neck or properly colared shirt underneath crewneck cardis, and any type of cami too, maybe even a cowl neck top.

Shiny, I love the way you layer your cardi's. I also love the link to the BR cardi that Taffy posted . What can I layer under those since they are crew necks? I love the cream one and the grey. Thanks

Second vote for teal....

The teal brings back powerful memories for me, so I know something teal is going to be on my fall list!

My sister - who looks very much like you, Taffy, except a lot shorter (5'2") - is one year older than me. In high school, she had this teal blouse that looked fabulous on her. I borrowed it from her all the time, and we would often fight over it!!! It was the "date" top. We both wore it down until it was threadbare.

I also think you would look wonderful in a teal V neck cardi. You have beautiful hair and skin tone. If you wear neutral colors does it make you hair and eye color pop?

Taffy, you would look gorgeous in the mosaic blue (teal) as well as the cream. Possibly even the claret. They're all pretty. Let us know what you decide.

Taffy, now that I see your hair/coloring, I can imagine that the "new mosaic blue" (looks like teal to me ;-)) might be a great shade for you. But grey and cream would also be nice, more neutral, shades. Or look for a great green somewhere else (my favorite color for redheads.) Definitely get a cardi, they are awesome. Good luck.

Those tops are very pretty! I think you should look out for a V-neck cardi to go with them.

Antje, we were posting at the same time, so funny!

Here are some pics of how I wore my turquoise BR cardi last winter/early spring:

http://teamsugar.com/look/1089929

http://teamsugar.com/look/1054313

You can browse all my looks - with various style cardis! - via these two links:

http://teamsugar.com/user/petite42/looks

http://www.flickr.com/photos/26254981@N05/

You'll see I tend to be more apt to wear a V-neck cardi with a V-neck top, like in this example, but it works best when the edge of the top peaks out and also with a cami layered under:

The grey is a nice safe basic & classic, but do consider buying one in a flattering color. What color are your eyes? The teal or turquoise and claret are awfully pretty!

I think I may be the resident cardi queen... I have this same cardi from last season, in the turquoise, and I wore it constantly. It's a very flattering cardigan.

I find that this style works best over scoop necks or higher necklines (I don't like crew necks - so not quite that high for me - but that would work). A cami - one with a straight neckline and perhaps some lace - works well too.

What kind of V-neck tops do you have?

Taffy, let Shiny send you a link to her photos. She is the queen of cardis and has shown us some excellent combos. A cardi is so versatile, you can wear it open or partially closed for waist definition, and you can add a belt over it for some extra oomph.

I myself didn't own a cardigan until about a year ago, either. For some reason I considered them too classy/conservative. I was very wrong Angie first suggested them to me, and then I saw all these great outfits on YLF with cardis and let myself be inspired. I now own several long-sleeved ones and one short-sleeved one, and wear them *all the time*. BR and J Crew have great quality cardis in nice colors. Zara (if you have one in your city) has decent quality ones for cheap.

Of the BR colors you linked to, I love the turquoise and the purple. I don't know what you look like and what shades of blue and green you wear a lot, so it's hard to say whether these would be good colors for you. You can also try yellow (I realize the BR cardi is not offered in yellow, but maybe some other cardi is) to go with your blues and greens. And cream would be a nice complement as well, and "safer" than yellow if you don't want to be too bold at first.

Sorry for some basic questions lately, but here goes:

In the past, my idea of layering a sweater was a fleece pullover or sweatshirt :)

BR has some cardis on sale right now, but I'd like some input before I buy. Most of my wardrobe is greens or blues (I'm a redhead)...so I would safely buy the grey one, but is there a better, braver option from these colors?

http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....pid=583267

Also, are there any rules of thumb with what to pair it with? Most of my tops are V-necks to go with my height.Would that be a bad neck line pairing?

Thanks for all your help!
