I can't....and that's just what I've learned over time. It's either got to have a full closed heel, or a strap like the Okalas. I feel like I look extremely awkward, and make too much noise in a slingback heeled shoe. This knowledge comes from years of heel wearing in the corporate world....

I'm with Emily. I turn my feet out a little bit if the heel is quite high (it helps avoid tripping on the heel), and I aim to land on the ball of my foot before the heel, but the heel will often touch a split second before the ball.

I'm not sure. I have narrow heels and can only wear pumps with heel inserts. I've never been able to wear slingbacks because they fall off my heels and there's no quick fix like adding a simple insert.

What rachylou said! These are sitdown shoes, and thus are not recommended to be worn with standup pants.

I just can't - I've let all mine go. My heels are narrow compared to my toes & whatever I do & whatever inserts I use they are uncomfortable & I slip out of them. That's why I bought x 2 pairs of the Okalas - the straps keep them on my feet.

I'm not sure what you mean by pushing against the back of the shoe.

When walking stilettos, I point my foot with each step to adjust for the height of the shoe. The heel of the shoe still touches the floor before the toe, but my weight when I am in motion is on the ball of my feet, with the heel just touching the ground for balance. The time between the heel touch and toe strike varies by heel height and shoe structure (higher heel = foot more pointed = less time between heel touch and toe strike = almost a flat step)

If the style of shoe rather than the heel height is affecting the way you walk, I suspect that there is a fit issue. Slingbacks are a pain in the butt to fit.

I land on my entire foot as well. Walking heel to toe, like with a flat, will look awkward in heels.

Some people have narrow heels (me!) and the slingback falls off no matter what, no matter how tight you make it. Consequently, I've never been able to walk in slingbacks and so now I don't buy them even though they are such a pretty shoe. Clearly, I'm no help at all!

I think with most heels that are higher, not just slingbacks, I tend to land with the full foot. It takes some practice to do without looking like either an elephant or a Hackney pony.

This is not a self-evident process for me. I understand the concept of heel to toe, and understand that this takes practice when you're not used to heels. This all makes sense when you heel is pushing back against the shoe. However, if the heels are stiletto slingbacks, are you still suppose to walk this way? Or do you supposed to land on the entire foot?
