Matching your cat to your insoles... next level coordination!!! ;)

Those fuzzy insoles look like they would be ideal in wellies, which usually have a bit of extra room in them (in case you're unable to return them).

Henry is adorable! Orange tabbies are the BEST, love my Alvin. (covering the ears of my other cat Simon ho is black so he doesn't feel left out).

I have several pairs of shoes/boots that I bought sized to wear over thin knee highs or tights, because I was going to wear them indoors, and there is NO way to fit any type of insole or thicker sock in them. I only discovered this when I tried because I thought I'd like to wear them outdoors in cold weather. So, sometimes you just have to go with a larger size shoe. I bought a sheet of thin felt at the fabric store and still plan to cut it to shape and try it (maybe two layers), so you might give that a try too

I use thin wool insoles that are warm and not fluffy. No problem. My newest pair is reversible, made of quilted wool (in fact, 40% wool, 60% polyester) and from a Swedish company called Feetfirst. Here is a link: https://feetfirst.no/ullsula-hvit-295701

The shearling will scrunch down. I agree that removing the original insoles will help, but if it’s still too tight, then finding a thinner insole might be necessary. I have boots that came with shearling insoles, and I had to remove them because they annoyed me, getting between my toes.

I haven’t ordered from this company before, but I have owned soles from this brand just like this. Compact wool felt and reflective coating on the bottom. Doesn’t take up much room in the shoe. Love these.

I use felted alpaca insoles, which are maybe a smidge lower volume than the shearling type but still very warm (something about how alpaca fibers are constructed, they're supposed to be the best at trapping air and keeping it warm?). They've compressed to maybe ~.25" thick over two years' worth of use, but were thicker when I first put them in. I have a pair in my Blundstones and a pair in my winter hiking boots. I did remove the stock insoles first, and I did opt for wide sizes in both boots. The boots would be a bit too roomy without the insoles, but since I only wear them during the winter months and my feet are always cold, I'm happy to have the extra insulation.

FashIntern -- I ordered my alpaca insoles on Etsy. There are lots and lots of options, and if you can't find a pair large enough for DS, you could probably just request a sheet of alpaca felt and then cut it to fit using the shoe's original insole as a template. The ones I got were a "trim to fit" style but I think they were described as fitting up to a US13, so maybe just big enough for an EU46?

I have these (mine are from ll bean) and they basically only fit into my snow boots (which is fine because that’s mostly what I wanted them for anyway - why do so many shearling lined boots not have lined soles???). They do compact down a little with wear but I think they are not really meant for regular shoes. And I have super low volume feet.
Chris is right, you may be able to remove the existing insoles in your shoes but I’ll warn that the shearling ones have no actual arch support so it might not be the best idea....

What ChrisM wrote (about removing existing insoles) when the fit is tight and I want a more supportive insole (I replace with one made by Superfeet). I do have a pair of rubber boots that are a half size too big and now fit due to fuzzy alpaca insoles.

Have you seen the wool insoles that are flat and not fluffy shearling? I love those - they help a lot with cold and don’t take up so much real estate inside the shoe.

Most of my shoes come with removable insoles, so by removing the ones that come with the shoes, I can wear the wool ones.

I also have fairly high volume feet, so my normal shoes or boots with laces, clogs, etc, by definition have a little extra space,

I hope that helps -

I bought a pair of sheepskin insoles with the idea of making my boots warmer. But I can’t fit them and my feet into my shoes! It’s one or the other.

I know some of you use felt or wool insoles- how do you do it? Buy bigger shoes to start with?

Thanks in advance for your pointers. Bonus shot: something else that is fuzzy and likes to squish into my shoes.
