Thanks ladies for the advice!!

I think the problem is that the sweater is long (crotch-length, not hip-length like yours Rute) and tight/fitted (unlike the chunky ones over minis for Rabbit Heart) so it shows beltlines and my stomach fat. I also don't own a mini and I think my pair of skinnies is on its way out unless a tailor can rescue them... the woes of a tiny wardrobe, I guess.

Tomorrow I'm gonna try it with two looser skirts and belted at my natural waist... it'll bunch a bit but maybe with the belting it'll look okay. We'll see. If all else fails, I'll relegate it to my Being Warm collection along with my fleecy long underwear and wool socks - there are worse ways to have spent $6.

Actually - are there ways for a tailor to shorten a sweater like this? No, right?

Great sweater! You'll definitely be able to wear it as Rabbit Heart and Rute describe. I also think a big scarf would be terrific with it. You have a couple of gorgeous ones that will work well with it!

Lovely sweater! You just need a slimmer bottom and a scarf is a great idea!

Lovely sweater!
It doesn't go with that skirt.
I would go for something like the following photos

It looks so nice and warm and cozy! You're right that it seems probably too chunky to be tucked in. This type of sweater calls for slim trousers, boots and a biiiig scarf! Or a mini or a pencil skirt with tights. Something like this:
http://styletto.ro/wp-content/.....r-zara.jpg
http://lookbook.nu/look/333615.....-treehouse
http://lookbook.nu/look/302682.....ted-bowtie

As to the tops - I can totally picture it with a shirt - collar out and also peeking from the bottom:
http://lookbook.nu/look/3237811-Maroon-Leopard

Shorts might also be a good way to go, if you wear them:
http://lookbook.nu/look/2457791-up-down
http://lookbook.nu/look/2810187-Green-Velvet-Leo

I think you don't need a necklace, a nice scarf would be great with it. Or maybe a collar necklace:
http://athlonetowncentre.com/m.....g-2012.jpg

Hope this helps!

I got this Gap sweater at Goodwill over the summer, tags still on it and very cheap. I love how the fabric feels and it's quite warm - but I can't figure out how to wear it?

Perhaps I made a misstep buying it because I usually wear skirts, and tuck my tops to emphasize my waist and hide my student pudge - what could I wear with this so as not to look lumpy and such?

And what kinds of tops can I layer under it? I don't wear necklaces, but scarves maybe?

I hope I can make this work because it's so comfy and warm...
