This is beautiful, Pastrygirl, and this type of gilet is all over the catwalks for Spring 2013!!

How about a tonal look with slim trousers?
http://pinterest.com/pin/18577417184222417/

Or with pants in a contrasting colour.
http://pinterest.com/pin/127508233171005571/

A denim on denim look.
http://pinterest.com/pin/169448004700130997/

I think this can also look great with a sleeved dress.

It seems a versatile piece.
Buttoned up it becomes more like a trench/ dress and can be worn indoors.
Unbuttoned it becomes a topper. I like it with the scarf too.

That looks terrific on you with the scarf. Better than the model in the Ann Taylor pic. I love it!

I like this "trench" on you with the scarf. It's dark colors compliment your coloring and the outfit. Really fun.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I think you're right about it needing to be a bit dressier. I tried a couple of things. First with a sweater and no embellishment, then with the same sweater and a scarf. I doubt I'll wear it indoors, I think it's too coat-ish. But it might be great for running errands!

OMG, that is a fabulous find! I personally like them with long sleeves. The striped shirt & sleeveless trench look is a little too casual for me personally, but that seems a popular look.

I agree with April that a fleece would be too casual for this topper.

I would wear it with a sleek dark turtleneck or dressy long-sleeved tee and dark pants outdoors in in-between weather and indoors in the winter. Either a scarf or long pendant would look nice with it.

PG, this is an intriguing item! I would try to match the dressy-level of the piece with whatever you put beneath it. A fleece may look too casual and gearish as a base for this more dressed-up piece.

In the fall, I can imagine a fine-gauge sweater beneath, or a long-sleeved blouse or button-down shirt. Even a dressier long-sleeved tee (one with some sheen to it and a nice drape) would work. And I'm picturing this with a pendant necklace.

A few weeks ago, I broke a rule about buying something that will fit into my current wardrobe. I found this sleeveless trench topper at Ann Taylor for only $20... but I don't know how to wear it. Should it be considered outerwear, for outdoors only? Or can it be an indoor jacket, too? I frequently wear a vest instead of a jacket/coat because I tend to run hot, even in the New England winters. If I wear it as outerwear, I might wear a thin fleece jacket underneath for extra warmth on the arms.

I'm at a loss. Help!
