Chris987, I understand that you love this blue turtleneck. And very likely, it will emphasize your blue eyes.

I suggest wearing it with bottoms, toppers and shoes in shades of tan / nude / cognac / rust / light brown / medium brown. And gold jewellery. I am sure you will look beautiful.

If you would like to wear a scarf, I suggest choosing a pattern of blue and beige/brown shades.

Interesting comment Suz. It's strange how one company can do the size/shape differently on garments that seem they ought to be the same design just in different fabrics. Why they do it is a mystery, but I've seen it too, all too often.

lisa p I do have olive skinny jeans but I don't like them very much and prefer to only wear them style in summer when I can roll up the cuffs. Great idea though, the colors would be great. I'll think about getting some. I tried on the ones Angie had as a top pick from WHBM last summer/fall but the fit was off. Hmm...I often see nothing but boatneck tops when I'm looking, so you ought to be able to find something. That type of neckline doesn'' work for me - too wide to sit on my shoulders properly and they hit my short neck too high up to be comfortable.

Violettt I've had mixed experiences with synthetic sweaters. Some are awful, some are great, and it's not easy to predict. I haven't seen The Crown yet but will have to watch it especially to look for that blue sweater set. Thanks for the comment on the coat...I plan to post about it soon.

Don't get rid of your navy cashmere turtleneck! Navy goes with ANY color~ I can picture it here, with a tartan plaid skirt (on my list for 2018), or some dark grey flannel trousers for winter~! And yes, as Joy said, camel or toffee would look fab! It's great you adore cashmere, so do I. I cannot seem to take an interest in any other fabric for a sweater except good quality cotton, certainly not acrylic. I have only one cashmere turtleneck, (I wear mostly crew necks) and it is light grey. It should be cold enough maybe one day this winter to wear a turtleneck! If you've watched the marvelous show "The Crown" on Netflix, she, the queen wears this gorgeous navy/ink blue sweater set which is the most beautiful blue I've ever seen! Almost like a teal blue, but really navy/ink, just like the color you describe. The "shearling collar camel coat" is gorgeous! Now that is a super find~

Do you have olive jeans or cargo/utility pants? That would be my first choice. Love the pumpkin/caramel options too, and agree with Angie about leaving the butterflies and white for summer. I have this thing about butterflies in winter....lol. I'd LOVE to have this sweater - the colour is beautiful - if it were offered in a boat neck or wide crew.

I found it TTS until it shrunk! But, I will say this, I also had a merino version of this sweater from L &T and that one had much more room in the torso and was also longer; this was more fitted and shorter right from the start. So if in doubt or between sizes, I would order up in the cashmere.

Thanks La P. I do sometimes wear a scarf with a turtleneck, but other times I agree that it can bee too much going on.

Joy, yes black is a natural for me especially since this blue is not really close to black.

Thanks gigi, I am trying to slowly add more metallics to my wardrobe but don't have much yet. Gold would be my first c choice but a cool silver would be ok too especially if it's not near my face. Good idea.

Cardiff girl, I do like the idea of a plaid scarf, in fact I've been looking at them a lot this season but haven't yet found anything I like.

Inge...hmm..olive and khaki...I'll have to give that some thought. With just the right ones...great idea! Wow thanks for checking out my finds...great ideas I'll check them all out! I already know it would be too warm to wear with the windowpane cardigan which is also very warm but the other ones just might work. ...

Aquamarine thanks, and the sizing does seem true to me. I like sweaters like this to have some room in the torso and bought a PL and it fits well. I think the L&T brand is also more average in torso width where brands like JCREW tend to have a slimmer torso fit.

I agree this is a tough color to work with, although I do love it. I’ve purged a few tops in that color over the years, as I found I only wore them with black bottoms. However, that was before my YLF days....everyone here is so creative and I like all the ideas suggested to you, Chris.

Suz and Chris, does this sweater run true to size? (I haven’t finished my holiday shopping!) Sometimes cashmere shows every lump and bump and is best a bit oversized/slouchy, I’ve found. It’s a good price IF the quality is good.

Nodding along with all the great suggestions. I do love this lighter shade of navy for you, Chris, and in addition to everything mentioned above, I could also see it work with olive and khaki.
ETA: I just had a quick look in your Finds, and think this blue will look stunning as well with the three fab coats in shades of raspberry red that are in the wardrobe section (Calvin Klein, L.L. Bean, and the puffer coat).
You could also try it with:
- taupish Loft cropped skinny jeans
- light wash Printed Miami Bloom jeans
- eggplant NJDY Sheri twill pants
- Anthropologie windowpane cardigan

Do keep in mind orange for future purchases. I have paired orange with navy in the past and really liked the results. Orange is also great for enlivening a very simple outfit, such as jeans and a white t-shirt.

Do you wear metallics? Maybe you could find a pair of metallic jeans close to the shade of gray that is working...although maybe that would be a cool shade of silver and not to your liking right now.

(Now that you mention not liking cool colors currently, it makes me wonder if that is also my issue. I have felt ho-hum about getting dressed lately. I think that most of my wardrobe is cool colors. Hmmm.)

I love the butterfly scarf! I wear scarves with turtlenecks occasionally, just to break up the large expanse of fabric.

I agree that bright navy is a hard color to work with but it looks great with black...not too much contrast. Wearing it with pumpkin and camel and toffee, as you have in your finds is beautiful.

It looks like you have a great capsule here. Another vote to throw the pumpkin coat into the mix. :)

I am similarly picky about tonal ensembles.

Also -- how are people wearing scarves *with* turtlenecks?? I run pretty cold but I think that would be too much neckwear for me.

Thanks, Bonnie.

Jazzy Dance, orange is a good idea (and nutmeg/pumpkin by association) but I don't have much in that color. The nutmeg coat is not warm enough for winter in my climate. I do really like oranges (both the colors and the fruit) so I'll keep that in mind for future purchases.

Thanks kerlyn...your suggestions ARE a little boho but that's ok...I just might have some wood or warm toned jewelry in my archives.

the cat I already have a few sweaters in camel colors and did not want to add more. I really do love this type of blue even thought it's a little more cool than warm. And you are right about the white scarf it's really a summer scarf.

Suz that's funny and I can definitely see you in this color! Too bad Mr Suz ruined it :-(. Good to know that it's a very warm sweater. It would be great with the pumpkin coat except that the coat is not warm enough for true winter. Leopard print is a great idea.

Thanks Jaileen, boot twin!

jill58 yeah that scarf seems a good possibility, will have to try it. That scarf is part of the "uniform" for a chamber music group I play in but there is no reason not to wear it at other times.

Angie, as I was saying to Suz, I love the idea of wearing it with the pumpkin coat but it's now too cold to wear that coat until spring, unless we get an unusually warm day, which might happen. But it would work with my new camel coat with the shearling collar...and i think I'm with you on leaving out the white unless it's just a little bit of white mixed with something else.

I used to have this same turtleneck! (Mr. Suz put it in the wrong wash and it shrunk too much, alas...) It is very warm, I mean in temperature. I could only wear mine in full winter, on cold days.

I loved it and actually consider it a fairly warm blue, as blue goes, I mean!

I know you said you don't want another bright but I am dying to see it with the pumpkin coat!

I'd also wear it with cognac or leopard print accessories.

I seem to have a higher tolerance for blue with denim than some people so I wore mine with (some) of my denim bottoms. I also wore with plaid bottoms and black.

Lots of nice finds here!

Since you are in doubt about the bright navy turtleneck, and as you are "not into cool colors," why not choose a turtleneck in a warm colour instead? I bet the same turtleneck in camel will look beautiful with your personal colours and be easy to style with items you already own.

The butterfly scarf is lovely. And as it contains both cool and warm colours, it will be an easy match with tops in various colours. It will look particularly great with summer clothes.

I think the navy would be great with those lighter wash bootcut jeans and the tan or cognac(?) ankle boots and tan bag. Being a warm toned person myself, I always tend to try to "warm" up cool colors with earthy ones, and I adore cognac and warm brown leathers. Also jewelry in brown leather or wood would be lovely. Maybe I'm going too bohemian with this?

I'm not an expert, but I had to chime in to say that the butterfly scarf is gorgeous and I think it would be lovely with your sweater. I like it with the gray pants too.

I like to add orange if I'm wearing navy. Just something small like a pin or handbag if wearing orange is not your thing. It really makes both the colors pop!

Please post a WIW when you put it all together!

I know navy is a popular color here on the forum so I thought I’d ask for some advice in how to style it.

This winter I have been gradually buying cashmere turtleneck sweaters, after divesting my cashmere cardigan collection that I had not worn for several years. (My mom was happy to be the recipient). I like the idea of switching to cashmere turtlenecks, since all sorts of sweaters are my winter essentials. I’ve been gradually buying when I find petite sizes on sale. I bought a burgundy one from Macys in mid-October and just brought home charcoal and bright navy ones from Lord & Taylor. The prices were similar, around half the original prices, but the L&T ones are softer and seem to be better quality.

I’m on the fence about keeping the bright navy one, because I have this odd mindset that “I don’t like to pair it with too many different colors and that makes outfit creation limited”. The color is somewhere between a cobalt blue and ink. I love this color, but only like it with black, grey, pale tan/nude or cognac, or white. I don’t like it with blue denim unless it’s exactly the right tonal match. Hmm…now that I’m reading my words maybe this is an imaginary issue and not a real one I am not into cool colors right now and don’t particularly want to add another “bright” to an outfit alongside this color other than the colors I listed above.

The first find is the navy turtleneck (the find goes to a regular size on the L&T web site they don't seem to have the petites online) .

I’ve added finds for some other items I have that could work…
- grey pants similar to the JCREW find, black slim pants, grey jeans, blue boot cut jeans (these are the only jeans in the right blue tones for this sweater)
- Maybe try my white denim jacket as a topper?
- Some scarf options
- Other toppers
I have a LOT of black footwear and bag options (not shown) .
I have gold jewelry I could add

What do you all think of my choices, and do you have any other suggestions? Thanks as always!
