Depending on the weather I wear my blazers over: graphic tees, breton tops, lightweight merino sweaters and turtlenecks, hoodies. Bottoms are usually jeans. My blazers are both a bit too long to work as toppers for dresses. They're also both neutrals, so any color I feel like adding usually comes from the top underneath. I've not yet mastered the indoor-scarf thing, but that seems like a good way to add some interest and softer element to offset the structure of the blazer...

How about wearing one of your coloured blazers with a black leather skirt and a white, cream or light grey high-neck pullover?

Ans how about wearing one of your neutral blazers with coloured pants and a matching coloured pullover?

Today, I wore a light grey blazer with a charcoal skirt, bottle green round-neck pullover, grey hosiery, silver ballet flats, purple belt, purple glasses, and a printed silk scarf in three shades of grey.

I need to start pulling my fall blazers out of storage, but this wonky fall weather where it's still in the 70s in October has delayed that!

I love shorter blazers over dresses (color coordinated, pattern coordinating or over a column of colour) and longer blazers over pant and leggings. Short to medium length blazers work well over traditional dress pants, but long blazers work well over leggings. I often wear a much longer tank of some sort underneath that flows over my bum so as not to show anything that shouldn't be shown with leggings, yet it still looks professional enough for my semi-casual workplace (YMMV, of course, given your more traditional workplace). Still, I love blazers over peplums and longer tops in general.

And while I don't want to be the person wearing athleisure, I really like ponte or otherwise soft fabric blazers. I have very broad shoulders, so finding blazers to fit my shoulders and not overwhelm the rest of me is a challenge. I have recently resolved to only add soft and movable jackets to my work wardrobe.

As for feeling bored with your work jackets lately... I get that. I also get that boring, when it comes to getting dressed for work, isn't such a bad thing. I like how a jacket can take a simple outfit and add polish instantly. I like how jackets can work really well in a travel capsule. All while keeping me warm in frigid offices and airplanes!

I've been watching Law & Order SVU reruns on Netflix lately and Marisa's work wardrobe is something I like a lot: it's professional, flattering, highly wearable (no fussing with her outfits as she runs after criminals and tackles them!), and yet doesn't call too much attention to itself. Her clothes say she's a serious professional. (And I think my recent binge-watching is why I'm gravitating towards more delicate necklaces lately... )

I pay attention to the neckline of any top I put under a jacket and how it works with the jacket. In general I steer away from shirts with collars as I find them too fussy underneath a jacket/ adding bulk around my neck/shoulder line, but I do love the look on others -- especially those with longer necks and more delicate shoulders. I also don't wear turtlenecks because they look awful on me, but love the t-neck+blazer look on others. I tend to prefer scoop necks or crews that aren't too high (need to elongate the short neck). For some reason V-necks are a bit trickier, but not sure why.

I wear my tops untucked, and generally prefer a flowy, tummy forgiving, loose blouse underneath, with the jacket carving out the appearance of a waist and adding structure. Sometimes I'll go with the "high-low" effect with a shorter/cropped jacket over a longer tunic. Sometimes I'll go with a looser, longer boyfriend-style jacket over a more form fitting outfit underneath.

I do often wear jewelry to fill in the neckline. It can range from a statement necklace, to something more delicate and subtle (lately I've been going in the latter direction). And sometimes a pendant looks just right, provided I'm not planning on buttoning my jacket, or the jacket has no buttons to close.

I also LOVE to scrunch/ roll my jacket sleeves! Bonus points for jackets that have interesting linings at the cuff, and that will stay up in scrunched mode. Sometimes I'll scrunch the jacket sleeves, but still pull the blouse sleeves all the way down to show, especially if they're interesting (pattern, cuff detail). Or flip the cuffs up over the scrunched sleeves.

For customer-facing / important days (like giving a preso), I'll do the suit-like matchy-matchy look, such as black jacket with black pants, or navy jacket over navy sheath dress. I then introduce some pattern for interest somewhere -- if not a blouse, then fun patterned shoes.

If I'm wearing a darker jacket, I find I need something white near my face, so very often my top of choice will be white as it lights up my face. With lighter jackets that have more going on (pattern, tweed) I do like the column of color approach. Let's just say I get a TON of use out of two simple scoop neck shells, one white and one black.

For work the top tends to be a blouse or shell in silky type material. For casual it could be a tee shirt or sweater. And for casual I'm much more likely to swap the pants out for jeans.

I also like a longer cuff on a shirt sleeve peeking out, contrasting fabric to the jacket lining, and sometimes the sleeves bunched up with a great watch and bangles.

I have only one blazer (looking to remedy that) but I like wearing it. I wear it mostly with jeans. Like lisa-p, I avoid suit-like combos. I usually wear it over a nice quality tee, semi-tucked. Now that it's cooler, I've worn it over a lightweight, fitted sweater. Also, like LadyLilac, I'm a fan of the look of a blazer over a slim-fitting turtleneck.

Like you, I do not wear scarves, but I'm thinking to try a silk kerchief at the neck--trying to get the color, but not the bulk or fussiness.

Maybe you could switch things up a little by pairing a colored blazer with trouser jeans and a patterned blouse? I like this look very much on other people but I'm too pattern phobic to wear it myself.

I go out of my way to *not* make a suit look when I wear mine. In other words, the bottom I wear with whichever blazer is intentionally contrasting or complimenting, rather than matching. Jeans , leather leggings , or ponte pants are my bottoms of choice. I don't really do a tonal look underneath either, now that I think about it. It sounds like I'm all over the place, but I think it works, for me anyways. My jackets are all solid colours with the exception of one pinstripe I rarely wear (I can't find the right top to wear under it) I don't use scarves with blazers (not indoors) and jewellery really depends on the jacket. Because there is already a third piece (the jacket) , the jewellery is usually earrings and bracelets and almost never a necklace.

Thistle I wear mine daily to work as I would a cardigan (and sometimes still do). I have mostly patterned dresses and top with a solid blazer or solid dresses with pattern blazer. With pants it's more solids underneath (unless I wear patterened crazy pants) I feel structured and professional, but not as buttoned up as in a full on suit. Plus the pockets allow me to carry stuff around! I think I've just become accustomed to it so I feel naked without one. For casual it's turtenecks, tanks, tees underneath with jeans, skirts or pants. I like the photos Anna posted too.

I realize these are more casual than you need for your workplace, but maybe they'll provide some inspiration
#1 Patterned shirt
#2 Drapey shirt with long necklace
#3 Peplum
#4 has a bit too much going on. I like the argyle vest. I think the belt is too much and I'm not too keen on the satin blouse.
#5 is with track pants, maybe you could use a more formal pant with a side stripe.

I think adding color would be my first suggestion - Like a burgundy blazer with deep olive bottoms and lighter camel or caramel top maybe (with cognac boots/shoes). Or the same blazer with gray pants and a burgundy or similar colored top (so the blazer and top go together but the pants are different).

I do love the way blazers look, and I have several more comfortable ones in my closet with a bit of stretch. Otherwise, they end up getting hung in my office and never put back on until the end of the day :)

But, I've found them rather boring lately.

I style mine in one of two ways:

I wear a column of color - black or ink blue - and top with a colored blazer (green, burgundy, etc.)

I wear Ink or black trousers, and then top with a similar colored jacket. It has a suit-like effect.

Any other ideas on styling them? How do you style them?
