So here is my first shop my closet pick for this capsule Sterling. It's an Ann Taylor stretch plum colored top. Like it because it's slimming and I don't have to tuck it in order to look neat all day. I hate tucking because I a.ways have to keep tucking and fussing with most tops when I tuck them in. Suz darkest color is blackberry, along with purple, red, tan, white etc.....just about any color goes I guess.

Pretty skirt! I would look at MsMary's outfits for some fab inspiration here. She is a wonder at colour and pattern mixing and owns some similar floral pencil skirts that she wears in the summer months. Maybe she will pop on here if she has time and offer a few photos of how she styles hers for work.

I like Sterling's idea of beginning with your own closet. What have you got already that works with this? I'd also take her approach of beginning with any neutrals you might have that work -- navy, white, etc. And then moving on to colours in the skirt itself. I can't really see if that is brown or charcoal in the pattern, but you get the idea. And then there are purples, pinks, reds.

If you want to "edge it up" try wearing with a leather moto jacket. To casualize it, wear with booties and a fluid pullover.

If you want to move toward a colorful capsule, I would literally pull out colors from the skirt itself and match them. The skirt would be my color template.

The skirt is magnificent. You will certainly rock it.

I always try to start capsules with items already in my closet. Do you have any items already in your closet that could be added to your capsule? Neutrals are a great idea and one I would probably veer toward, but adding color will really make your capsule POP!!!

I love the idea of wardrobe capsules. But I'm not sure I know how to start. This post inspired me to dive right in when I saw the skirt at Talbots.its currently on sale for $49.00.

What do you think of this as the basis for a wardrobe capsule. What other pieces would you suggest for 2 colored tops, a purse, a scarf and colored pumps based on the skirt? I think adding the neutrals will be easier but i welcome suggestions for those pieces as well. My style is pretty conservative but YLF is teaching me to incorporate a little edginess in my wardrobe choices.
