I had this problem with a pair of dark wash jeans a few years ago. I washed them a few times and eventually got rid of them. I don't know how to get rid of the stains. I bought a new pair of dark wash jeans recently and washed them in white vinegar 3 or 4 times. I have not had any staining from them. I used about 1/2 cup of white vinegar to wash them in the machine. I did not use detergent.

My favourite jeans have been through the wash and even the dryer numerous times, and yet still managed to leave dark stains on my linen bags. How can I remove these stains and prevent this from happening again? The stains haven't responded to soap and spot scrubbing, unfortunately. I've heard vinegar helps set dye, but have not tried this before.
