The leather is a porous surface that can absorb oils from skin and hands, causing stains. Wipe leather regularly with a dry microfiber cloth to get rid of smudges and light soiling. For a deeper clean, use a commercial leather cleaner or make your own.

Mix a solution of warm water, a few drops of Castile or liquid dish soap and a few drops of vinegar. Dampen a cloth with the solution and wipe down surfaces.

Do not saturate the leather, as too much water will damage it. Use a second cloth dampened with clean water to wipe off the soap. Dry thoroughly.

Are you familiar with Lexol? They make leather cleaner and leather conditioner. I've used both products on leather bags, and also on my car upholstery. The upholstery was filthy because of my dogs, and it really did a good job cleaning it. Then I used the conditioner to keep it from drying out. I don't know about white, but I've used it on very light leather. Sometimes things seem darker, but that can be because they were very dry before. Anyway, I bought it at my shoe repair, but they also sell it at the Subaru dealer, and of course on Amazon.

The neck is the worst spot. I always try to protect it from skin oils by wearing a scarf between my neck and the jacket.

One HEWI for the past three years is a white dressy jacket. I shopped my favorite consignment store and feel in love with a collarless white leather jacket that followed me home. It's not quite Chanel style but a similar look, with simple white leather buttons, the whole look is fab open or buttoned up. A Statement item for me, I'll be wearing it to fancy dinners, an important birthday celebration for my MIL, and spring events. Maybe some business stuff, too. But no BBQs or pizzas!

Who else wears white leather, and how do you keep it clean? Is there a leather spray that doesn't darken white but protects it from daily handprints and unintentional dirt? Am I doomed to admire -- but not wear and enjoy -- my new pet?
