Hi sunkissie, I think a lot of us don't fit neatly into one or even two body types & that's where the confusion starts. In my experience there is nothing like trying on the clothes to see how we feel & look in them

For someone just starting out it was a kind of confusing. I did the measurements and math as best as I could but I was still confused. Thank you for posting the link to the video though. The more resources I have to learn from the better off I will be. I guess the confusion will go away when I learn more.

The significant thing that she does not take into consideration in my experience is the shoulder line. According to her method, I'm a lower figure. And for many years, I thought I was pear-shaped, because my bust has always measured somewhat smaller than my hips. But so many of the pear-oriented styles just didn't do much for me. I didn't understand why until I ran into some figure guidance that accounted for shoulders! Mine pretty much balance out my hips, giving me more of a slight hourglass appearance. This video completely ignores leg length and vertical proportions as well.
Still, I'm always drawn to these analyses and found it a fun exercise!

This was fun, Caro. Thanks for sharing. I had some characteristics across categories too. But I think that's part of the fun, realizing that our bodies are unique and don't always fit into a nice set of numbers. :^)

It's so interesting how we all learn how to deal with the unique details of our own bodies.

Janet I agree absolutely about visual tricks. I am short-waisted & it is definitely one of the defining characteristics for me as far as clothing goes :)

What Janet says about a different visual effect from the front or side goes for me too. I think I'm fairly rectangle from the front with a long waist that I can kind of arbitrarily decide where I want to belt, but pear from the side/back -- so especially with close fitting skirts or pants, those are the proportions that need double-checked.

For example semi-tucked long tops can look good from the front, and then just a mess at the back, so I'm trying an all-over tuck that's loose and mimics the curve of a semi-tuck.

Numbers can be misleading -- they don't take into account that a person's form can be more elliptical or more round. I am extremely elliptical -- I'm wide in the hip but little booty, so I might measure more hourglassy but appear slightly pear-ish when viewed from the front, an angle that also tends to not show how busty I am. When I turn to the side, I look more top heavy because I don't tend to carry weight in my stomach.

I also think that being short- or long-waisted can play tricks on the eye when it comes to these proportions. So, yeah, numbers can be helpful, but I think a mirror and photo with a close-fitting outfit method works well too, as long as the photo is taken from the proper angle and distance so the image is not distorted.

I finally got my body type right by taking measurements. I was under the delusion I was an IT for so long then when the measurements came back and I realized that my shoulders weren't that broad and my tummy collects a lot of love then apple it was. So you're right Caro, measuring has some value.

.....or not.

Worth a try if you like numbers. Didn't work for me though. I'm finally convinced that I don't fit into any of these categories. I have some upper body characteristics, some middle & some hourglass - now I have the measurements to prove it :(
