I have it enabled on my browser, but I also use a Firefox plugin called Ghostery that stops all of the ads from following me around the internet. The last one I need to stop is Facebook. I need it to stop suggesting pages to me that I have recently visited online, it's just weird and stalkery.

Thank you for this info, ladies! Just set it on Chrome.

Right now, the internet is like the Wild Wild West, but at some point, I think/hope the FTC or FCC will step in and make websites comply with privacy and do not track requests. Or maybe I'm just an optimist.

Anna, thanks ! Yes, it was pretty clear that it is voluntary. I mentioned that not every website adheres to the request. But many do and Pinterest is one that does.

Unfortunately, we all get a service from these sites and, so far, there are only 3 ways for them to monetize ( afterall, they do have employees to pay ) : charge a customer fee, sell advertising space, or sell data.

But I also need to remember to disable cookies. I had 2,830 !!!! cookies when I went the privacy section of my browser. Holy Cow.

Because of the Pinterest discussion, I looked into how to stop websites from tracking our every move. It turned out that Facebook and Pinterest were tracking my web surfing. YIKES.

Anyway , here are the directions to set your browser to prevent it. You can click on the browser you have on the top right had side where each browser is listed. I just enabled my "do not track". There apparently are websites that don't abide by this, but Pinterest does...and they were my biggest problem.
