In fact, I can't think of one single instance where I've ever been subject to any kind of sexual harassment. While I'm pleased that I haven't had to try to deflect unwanted attention, I'm also a little concerned. Am I really that unattractive? I can see three possibilities:</p> <p>a) I live and move in circles where men don't do that</p> <p>b) I'm really dense and I don't notice</p> <p>c) I'm not very good looking (which may be the case now, but wasn't when I was younger and I never got harassed then either)</p> <p>d) I look like I'd beat the crap out of anyone who tried it</p> <p>I'm hoping for (a). Thank God you got away from those creeps.<br /> I know there is plenty of harassment of women in the US. In other countries the norm is that as soon as you step out from your home you get the *constant non-stop* commentaries, whistling, knocking on windows or whatever is there, the dirty looks and many times grabbing you as well. When I was young, I thought it was a compliment, but I came to realize that it's not so innocent. I still remember the first time someone pulled up in a car next to me while I was walking home from a store -- I was 14, and the older guys were clearly trying to get me to go with them. Most men don't realize that women have been deflecting, defusing, and defying this behavior our entire lives, and the toll taken by constantly being on guard against all of those micro-aggressions, much less the larger ones like actual physical assault. And now here in the states we now have a president-elect who has actually admitted he's grabbed women without their consent. There are many places where harassment starts the moment you step out of your home.
