No rules against pairing navy with black! Denim sounds great also. Burgundy can look great with grey, some browns, taupes. It sounds like you've decided that you can only wear this top with navy, but I bet if you play around in your closet, you'll find something unexpected that looks great with it!

Burgundy goes with gray, with brown, with tan, with winter white, with taupe, with... Think of colors other than navy and see what you come up with. You may be able to use that blouse after all.

Depends . . . it can be throwing good money after bad trying to make stuff work sometimes. Here is a thought - try it with other items you already have, that aren't necessarily navy or burgundy. Not everything has to match, it just has to go together. Maybe even just with a pair of skinny jeans, boots, and a dark neutral blazer to start with? You might be surprised how much you can pair it with if you stop trying to 'match' it.

Do you really still love it? Can you get a number of other uses out of those extra pieces you'd have to buy? Can you use the additional variety in your wardrobe or are you already overwhelmed by your choices? If so (not the overwhlemed part ;-), I'd be tempted to work on it.

Otherwise, sometimes it's just easier not to force yourself to wear it -- and you might be better off wearing more favored things a few extra times.

I have a new (with tags) silk blouse that I love and that is past its return date. It's a sheer sleeveless shell with pussy bow, burgundy background with a small navy print. I bought it thinking that I was going to make burgundy one of my colors this year. However, I neglected to remember that I don't own any navy bottoms, and the only navy topper I own is a blazer that fits more like a boyfriend style. I don't own any burgundy either.

So my question is more philosophical. Would you buy something to make this blouse work? I'm thinking that a navy cardigan would allow me to wear this with a gray skirt. I think I have some shoes that will work, but I'd need to experiment.

Or do I consign the top and call it a learning experience?

And how do I avoid doing this in the future? It seems to be a pattern for me -- buy something I love, and then spend way too much trying to make an outfit out of it.

Thanks.
