My roots start showing early and I never get in on time to have them redone. I'm sorry to say that my ghetto fix is to use mascara to cover them in a pinch.

I do my own touch ups at home every 2 weeks. I get a salon color every 3 months or so just to even everything out. I found a color that I like and always use only that one. The results are very nice.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! My roots start showing around two weeks and are really visible as I have very dark hair. I am definitely going to give marker a try but i think I can only order online.

OMG so glad you started this thread. I have very dark hair with lots of grey. I get my hair professionally touched up every 4 weeks but by week 3 those nasty greys are showing (main reason I have a fringe) so many great recommendations I must try. Yay

Love the Root Touch Up stuff. Easy to paint on properly and seems to do the job. Always on sale at CVS and coupons.

A subject close to my heart (or actually head). My roots are already showing by the 2 week mark. My original hair color is very dark brown almost black and my actual hair right now is very white. The clairol root touch up product is not available here, but I have used it successfully when I have managed to get it. Here I am using a 10 minute hair product by schwarzkopf. I get the whole thing done professionally every 6-8 weeks and touch up the roots every 2 weeks or so with this product. I have tried the marker sticks but find they rub off and are messy. I also frequently consider going gray!

I have very dark hair. It is dark brown, but can look black when not in direct sunlight. I like Nice and Easy Root Touch Up. I do it every 4 weeks. Sometimes I use mascara around my face/hairline. There are lots of other products.

The one thing that I do that is really helpful, is that around my face ( hairline ) I use a toothbrush to brush through the smaller, finer hair. Those are really hard to get and always seem to show first.

Good Luck !

I do my roots about every 4 to even 8 weeks depending on lots of reasons. I have dark brown hair (both naturally and product-enhanced).

i also use this for quick touch-ups if my roots are showing and I don't have time to do them properly. It lasts until the next wash and covers pretty well.
http://www.touchbackgray.com/touchback.html
One marker has lasted me over a year now and I still have some left but I don't use it every day, just when I haven't done my roots in time.

I use Revlon Color Silk as well - need root touch up every 3-4 wks. They make root specific kits but I like the regular stuff and stock up when it's on sale anyway.

I do have some root spray by Rita Hazan that works in an emergency - it's sort of a super concentrated dry shampoo. $24 at Sephora and the can lasts about 6 months because you only need a bit and only on those in between dye times. Regular dark brown dry shampoo works okay too especially if I mess my part up a bit. But you have to make sure you aren't caught in the rain

Mainly, the red in my hair fades pretty quickly so I have to dye it every 3 weeks or so anyhow. But if I get sick of looking at roots, I'll use Mimic Color for really quick touch-ups. It's like eyebrow color/powder/wax but for your roots. I've also used L'Oreal Root Touch-Up (hair dye kit specifically for touch-ups -- I like the tool they include).

I use Revlon Color Silk.
It's cheap as can be but seems to cover my gray way better than the more expensive brands I've tried. Like Kim, I touch up every 3 to 4 weeks, because I can't stand having gray roots showing.

Even though your hair is very dark, I wouldn't recommend using true black- my daughter made that mistake once and it was awful. I'd try Dark Brown.

I touch up every 4 weeks at the most. Can be 3.5 if I have something special going on. My roots never get past 1/8 of an inch and I use an inexpensive Nice And Easy color. I decided a long time ago that if I started coloring my hair I would never have visible roots. So far, so good! (10 or 15 years later now...LOL)

Well, the easiest way is just to touch up the roots more often! I do mine at home, so as soon as the roots starting showing I just color them again. Easy as can be. The rest of my hair only needs to be touched up every now and then.

How often do you guys conceal roots? As I have very dark black hair, I find it really challenging to hid my grey roots around my hair line. I think light haired gals have it easier with greys. Please share your tips, tricks and suggestions.
