Are you wearing socks for warmth? If so, I'd just wear different shoes. Socks are early fall and spring shoes for me. Max 80 degrees, min 65 degrees. Once it's too cold for ballet flats, I'm in boots.

Sometimes I wear mine with nude fishnet trouser socks, but that still probably doesn't help much as far as warmth goes.

I do the same as Louise, very sheer knee high stockings- you can't even tell they are there! The trick for me was finding one that was light enough in colour to match my very pale skin

I'd stick with nude knee highs in pantyhose material, if you need extra warmth pop a pair of legwarmers under the pants or wear pantyhose with skirts x

Unfortunately, I think they look best when worn bare footed. If you are wearing them with pants, you can get away with a nude colored sock, or a sock the color of your pants maybe. That's about it, I think.

It's a shame having to cut down on wearing ballet flats and pumps as fall sets in, but combining them with socks can be tricky. Not to mention all the flats I own that would be much more comfortable if only I had a pair of socks that I was willing to wear with them. The tiny slipper socks designed for flats aren't much help since the are near the mouth of the vamp often peeks out, and, more importantly, the back of the sock ends up scrunched up inside my shoe rubbing the back of my ankle raw.
