Anything noticeable kind that, I won't buy or keep. I do hate it when something shows up after washing. I had some Eddie Bauer jeans that did that leg seam twist thing after washing, so the seams weren't straight. I eventually passed them on , but nowadays I would take them back to EB.
Topstitched items can be off; I don't buy stripes that aren't lined up, though in a lot of items that's not a flaw-- they never intended to match pattern.
The only things I can think if that are okay is something that doesn't show but is a " second" because of it. Or non- clothing items for things that don't matter to me.

I usually don't notice flaws until after I wear the item. I recently bought a sweater (Loft again....I'm noticing a trend here) and I didn't notice until after I washed it and threw away the tags and receipt that there is a (small) HOLE in the back! I know it was there when I bought it because someone had knotted it off to keep it from getting bigger! Ugh. About 2 years ago I bought a tee shirt from there, washed it once, and it came out with a hole in it too! I do have some pieces from there that I really like, but I find their quality control to be really varible. I would just cross them off my list of retailers but they are one of only a few in my area that carry my size (0P) in store for a halfway affordable price. :-/

I haven't had this experience ...but it would bother me. Clothes should at least be perfect when you first get them.

What does happen is that items show their lack of durability after a few wears. Everything from pilling to holes to wear on the fabric...

If it's a manufacturing defect, then I leave the garment. What you describe would bother me, even if the garment was on sale. While in search of perfection, I will compromise on colour and material fiber if I think the fit is excellent.

Pretty damn perfect. I won't tolerate manufacturing flaws. Back it goes. If it happens too often I write that particular merchandizer off my list. For example, I pass by Banana Republic and look in their windows, but haven't bought anything there in a long, long time. I don't see that changing because there are too many other stores to try.

Stuff that's noticeably off grain bugs me, as well as plaids that aren't matched, that sort of thing. I probably miss things and I'm resigned to a lot of knits being off kilter, but I try not to buy things that will have a defect that I notice.

I think it really depends on the kind of flaws you are talking about. The ones you mentioned, I wouldn't pay any price for a garment that was defective like that. A missing button (maybe, if I got a discount, and there was a replacement button supplied). A few loose threads, yes.

I do admit there are times when you don't know until it is too late. Sometimes a garment's flaws only show up after washing. It doesn't hang right, meaning it probably wasn't stitched properly in the first place. This has happened to me a couple of times. (Zara again....)

I guess I just don't know at what price point I should be accepting of flaws? I mean if a shirt is $50 should I accept it? $20? What if it's on sale? For instance, I have only ever seen a couple of styles of jeans at Loft that do NOT have crooked pockets. They're not super cheap, and millions of people probably wear them....but I don't. Hmm.

Those are defects or seconds that rightfully should be marked and sold as such. I'd be bothered, but done people may not mind as long as they have something wearable for a cheap price.

You bet! If I don't notice a flaw ( which is a rare thing for me not to notice) it's OK but once I notice it I cannot dismiss it and it will bother me. That's why I take my time deciding if something is a keeper or not.

Those things would really irritate me too enough to return the item.

Sometimes on the first wear, especially with faux-wrap dresses I find the cross over at the front gaps more than I would like. But then I am likely to solve it by adding some bonus stitching (or if I'm in a hurry when I discover the issue with a judicious safety pin).

I guess you just have to decide what you're willing to accept and what's a dealbreaker. Like Suz's example or that on an Old Navy $20 pair of jeans maybe pockets might be a slight bit off vs not accepting that on a $98 BR pair.

The problem is that it seems like everything I buy has some kind of defect once I get it home. Some of my cheaper clothes (think Target jeans and tees) seem to be better made than, for instance, a pair of $98 jeans I just bought (and returned) at Banana Republic.

I will accept a few loose threads as the cost of Fast Fashion (Zara, I'm talking about you) but I try to snip them off when I notice them.

I bought a sleeveless shell at Loft today. When I got home, I noticed that one strap is a little wider than the other! I know for sure this will drive me nuts. I have this problem a lot....I have returned jeans for the pockets not lining up properly (actually I never buy jeans at Loft because their pockets are ALWAYS off). I passed on a top at Banana Republic today because a pocket was a little crooked. I have a pair of jeans that are cute, but I hate wearing them because one leg turns slightly outward as I wear them....etc. Does it bother you when your clothes aren't just right?
