I hate to be like this, but it’s a gym! You are there to work out and get sweaty. Forget about fashion and get a good sweat on and wear your sweatband!

Interesting question about sweatbands, I don't see them at all in the gym or at aerobics classes but if you go to tennis courts, I am still seeing them worn there.

Fine for the gym, and besides, I think it looks good on you.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, though. When I recently described my workout wear to my sister, she said, "you mean the way we wore them in cheerleading camp?" That was in 1985.

So I might not be qualified to comment.

Totally fine at the gym, which is what they were made for :) And the one you have is totally what "all the girls" are wearing these days. At least, before DD when we had a gym membership, they were. Also really useful if your hair is too short for a ponytail.

I think headbands, scarves, etc. are totally appropriate gear for working out because fighting with sweat, etc. is a drag. While I don't think workout gear needs to be especially fashionable (remember the fashion victims who dressed like Jennifer Beals in Flashdance in the 1980s), I do wish that folks would look in the mirror and say, "is this appropriate?" A few weeks ago, I spent an excrutiating hour on a treadmill behind a woman on an elliptical. She had, well, had a large bottom, and was wearing thin white jersey-knit cut-off shorts and a short top that did not meet the top of her pants. And she was wearing a thong that was hot pink and black zebra stripes and I could totally see it over the top of her pants and through the white pants. Every step was a reveal. There are men at my gym who wear stuff that is too revealing as well --shorts that are too short or baggy, or tank tops that just show a lot of "man-side-boob." So inappropriate.

I wouldn't be wearing a headband on date night but a work out...no problem.

Ya, I think it's as T-Rex says. Not that gear isn't always in.

And actually, when I went to get my jacket from the Nordstrom tailor, my salesgirl was sporting a headband she got at Forever 21. It was the "turban style" of headband, with a knot in front.

(Oh to have a job where you can wear a headband and not look like you forgot to take off your Turbie Twist...)

Remembering the 80's (before I saw your pic) I thought of something like this (pic below). I'd say you'd be showing your age if you wear it that way, but since you're wearing it in a way that is now current you are totally in style at the gym! (Different rules apply at the gym than on the street tho...LOL)

I've also seen people wearing sweatbands on their wrists and using that to wipe the sweat. Not sure how effective that is. Most people at my gym just bring a hand towel to the workout, but that only works if you are not moving around the class too much (like Body Pump, or on the treadmill.)

Good solution and pretty fashionable too!

I think a headband is a functional part of an outfit and the way you're wearing it does not remind me of the 80's at all. When I trained for a half marathon I needed a sweatband and a visor (to keep out the sun) and I found a great combo and simply can't run outside without it. I guess this is a long way of saying if you're putting your health first, motivated by what you're wearing and you're comfortable you look fab.

They are very appropriate when worn during a workout. What's not appropriate (and just dumb) is a person sweating all over the place, afraid to wear a sweatband because it may be out of style.

When I did aerobics in the 80s, no exercise ensemble was complete without a terry band around the head. We almost forgot it had a function.

Fast forward and I can see that nobody wears them anymore, except for LeBron James, who surely can wear anything he wants.

Problem being I just joined a gym, after years of sticking to walking, yoga, and Pilates. The sweat is pouring off of me and my forearm is not a good wiping tool. I feel undignified cozying up to a wall so I can wipe my face with the hem of my top (not yet feeling comfortable to flash my abs).

So I just ordered four nice plain headbands in gray, purple, black, and pink, to go with my workout outfits. They work beautifully and are completely soaked all the way around when I finish at the gym.

http://www.amazon.com/COSMOS-D.....1_14?s=spo

How bad a fashion faux pas am I committing?
