Going out with a goal, like a midi skirt or summer dress is a sure way to twist myself into getting something that’s not right for me. This year I gave myself an item # limit, so often I'll pop into a shop without buying anything.<br /> Sales are meaningless to me. Not that I am rich, cause I'm definitely not, but they don't affect my buying decisions. Many shops always have some sale or another. But the places I like to shop online, Athleta and Peruvian Connection, only seem to have things on sale when it's the very small and very large sizes left. Because most things I buy are sale priced, I don’t find sale prices anything special, and don’t buy things I don’t like. I rarely search for a specific item. Not looking up “red hoodie” means I’m not aware of all the red hoodies out there at big prices. </p> <p>I shop B&amp;M very sporadically. Was in the mall recently, so I checked out a store I like, tried a coat but didn’t buy it. Had decided to buy bike shorts on a summer trip to the US, wound up picking up some tops too. Also ordered a ton of jeans while I was there, and chose one pair to keep. I sometimes go to markets as a thing to do, and got a few things at one this summer, after multiple trips over several weeks. </p> <p>I have tons of clothes, gathered over several decades. When I thought I’d lost some recently, people on YLF posted such sweet comments taking note of that! There is nothing I truly need. When the NAS is on. Ultimately many of those clothes weren't worn at all, because they were the wrong size/ colour/ aesthetic/ quality etc. So their high Cost-per-Wear meant they weren't that 'cheap' after all. </p> <p>So whilst I do still buy discounted items, I'll only do so if it's a brand I know fits me well. Whilst I am subscribed to many mailing lists, they're in a separate promotions email, which I check it maybe twice a month. If a brand has discounts, great - but I'll still check their site even without sales if I like the look of their newsletter that season. </p> <p>Etsy is my current weakness - I'm still tempted to buy something not 100% right just because it's so unique! I'm improving these days though, asking for naturally lit photos &amp; full measurements first. </p> <p>TL:DR I online 'window shop' maybe twice a month, but have noticed most of my purchases seem to peak around Spring, July, &amp; Jan (my birthday).
