I alternate with lower heels depending on activities and weather. Heels can make proportions work but I also think flat or near flat shoes are very stylish. I might wear a 3-4" a couple of times a year for a gala or wedding or whatever. Semi-casual or semi-dressy I don't go higher than 3" and more often even lower - or flats. In the winter I seem to always default to a flat boot or 1-2" bootie. I have 3 inch heels, but those are for going out purposes, and that's that. I've been getting more used to higher heels lately, but it scares me that I'll get so used to them that I'll wear them too often and thus ruin my feet. I have a tendency to bunions and I really hate bunions: not because they look bad (though I honestly think they do) but because they look so painful :S I'll try my best not to get them, my spine will be grateful to me about that as well. I suppose it's different for women who drive to work evey day instead of commuting on public transport. I have a very high arch and strong feet and ankles from running, so wearing heels is not a problem for me. I mostly sit at a desk, though. I swich out to lower wedges if I need to run errands at lunch or walk to the train. If your 4 to 5 inch heels have a bit of a platform, it will make a huge difference in comfort. Also try to vary the heel height - don't wear your super high heels day in and day out and stretch your calf muscles daily. It's not 'bad' for your body to want to realign to it's natural state. Of course, you are free to wear heels to bed even if you like! Just wanted to clear that up. I feel more confident in heels. But I'm very choosy and they have to be comfortable. I do wear 3 inch heels and yes, comfortable 3 inch heels do exist. I go for flats if we're going to be walking a lot. Years ago, the hubby made a deal with me: he said for every pair of heels I bought, he wanted me to also buy a pair of flats. So I added a lot of flats. And that encouraged me to rotate. My feet are happiest if I rotate and do not wear heels every single day. I hope to wear my heels into my late years and not have to give them up due to bunions and foot pain, like a lot of women have to do. So I am willing to rotate now and save my feet.
