I have done SYC a few times, but that has never included things that I needed or were worn out and needed to be replaced. So with that in mind, I replace my white Ts the most. They get dingy rather quickly. But that is also why I avoid white, LOL.

T-shirts, once a year, like Zapotee I start the summer season with new one's and then demote as the seasons pass and they become layering items in the winter instead of stand alone items. Bras and PJs once a year during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Socks, when they look worn, I wear smartwool and they last about two years.

I get the pinprick holes too. I thought they were from my kittehs!

I am another sweaty Betty, and I wear tees a lot. I replace frequently, usually on sale or with a code from the Gap.

I sweat like crazy, so shirts don't last too long for me. They get stinky and I have tried every product under the sun, and the only thing that kind of works is the actual sun, but that is only really in the summer when I can hang clothes out on the line.

I also get mysterious grease stains and random snags on my clothes even though I try to change into home clothes as soon as I am home or I wear an apron when cooking.

My T-shirts lose shape at the neckline before they get holes. (I can't actually remember the last time I got a fray or hole in a T-shirt.) Or --- TMI alert! --- they get stinky if they are summer workhorses. So depending on the cause of retirement, they become lounge/sleepwear or rags for cleaning countertops and mirrors (vinegar sorts out stink, but isn't kind to the colour or my skin). My SO has the holes in weird places problem however --- typically on his back and tummy! I don't get it... ::smh::

So I buy a couple of new T-shirts every year. I think I have about 5-7 in rotation at a time. Life: About 6 months for the 2-3 I depend on most summer, but the rest last anything from 2-6 years, even whites (with help from the sun on the drying rack, though our hard water is hard on them still).

Underwear --- I buy relatively cheap M&S cotton knickers, and again, there's usually about 7-10 in rotation at a time. I buy about 5-7 each year in a bunch. Life: 6 months to a year, depending on the quality this year (I keep noticing place of manufacture changes to all over the map of late --- they've been from Egypt to Sri Lanka to Thailand to...) These DO get holey, I fear

My bras are more expensive and more sturdily constructed. I can usually go 2-3 years without needing a new one, and cotton sports bras are the first to go usually (they stink up irreversibly by the time summer's done). Underwires hold up best, possibly because I handwash those. But a given bra typically last 5-7 years for me. It helps that I have lots --- about 10 again --- in rotation at a time.

Socks last years and years. Except my woollen handknit winter socks, which I wear into the ground every other year at best --- just a couple of pairs in rotation at a time. Some need annual replacement. I get them from individual crafters or my mom, so quality differs.

Jeans last ages. They're dated or I've shifted sizes long before they're done, for me! I've *never* had to throw out a pair because they wore out. My oldest pair that still fit are frayed at the edge on one foot, but not grievously. They are Benettons, um, about 7-8 years old? I have between 4 to 10 in use at a time, depending... My SO, who has about 7 in rotation, goes through a couple each hour --- I have no idea how! And this though I wash mine every couple of wears and wear them almost all day when I do (he goes much longer between washes, which I thought was supposed to be better for denim?).

I wear short sleeved tees in summer and long sleeved ones in winter. I try to pick up several new white ones each season, and buy new colors if they appeal to me, tossing faded ones as needed.

I do schedule in these sort of replacements - and I am also finding items getting shabby and needing replacements an impediment to, in my case 12 in 12 aspirations.

I buy one or 2 tees a year, take them off as soon as I get home, and wear them out of the home for a couple of years, then devote to loungewear.

Whew, I thought I was being precious replacing mine so often but seems everyone else needs a bit of rotation on these kinds of items.. I do get the little holes too - but on the shoulders or under the arms... I am wondering if its from cross body bag?

Def. not my kitchen counter, as I don't wear my street clothes at home. (And, oddly, my loungewear doesn't seem to get holes). I thought it might be my lab bench but I think I decided the height was wrong. My best guess is the zipper or button on my jeans.

Incidentally, J says that since so few people in offices wear ties every day nowadays, the desks are no longer designed with ties in mind, so every time he has to wear a tie, he keeps getting snags in them from the edge of his desk.

Diana, could it be that your leaning up against the kitchen counter is the culprit for those holes in your tees? http://www.deliciousdays.com/a.....ry-solved/

My tees get pinprick holes with some regularity around the stomach region (still not sure why, but others have this problem too) at which point they get demoted to layering or tucking only pieces (obviously only if the holes will be hidden). I don't wear white tees at all so I don't worry about them getting dingy and my blacks don't fade in that time frame. I'd say I buy new ones maybe every 1-2 years but I don't buy them all in a single batch so it varies. Lately I haven't been wearing tees as much so it's less often.

Socks and underwear get thrown out as they get holes. I honestly don't know how long they last because I buy new ones gradually throughout the year. I also have a lot so I don't wear each pair as often. I wear Gap socks and underwear and I have to be honest, their quality has gone down the tubes. They sprout holes so easily these days, I am thinking of switching. I do like their cuts though.

ETA: Is that weird that my socks, underwear, and tees all seem to get physical holes before they stretch out, fade, or get otherwise shabby? Maybe it's because I only like cotton for all of them.

Like Mo, mine last pretty long -- 3 years, at least. It helps that I rarely toss them in the dryer (they get air-dried). I have a smallish wardrobe, so they're in regular rotation; I think I wear each tee every other week.

I think that gives me 50+ wears, per tee.

I replace layering tees and tanks in white and black at least once a year. Whites lose their crisp look and blacks fade. Other colors may last longer as they are not worn as often. Socks vary in quality but must be comfortable or out they go. Underwear gets replaced once a year too. I try to stock up when it's on sale.

I'll be honest, several years. I must just rotate wearing all my clothes pretty well, so that one or two don't get worn out first. I need new socks, these are going on many years now and although not holey they are not up to par anymore!
It'll be curious to see, once I pare down my wardrobe more through this year's 12 for 12, if I will need to replace more often.

I primarily wear tees in summer. I tend to buy a fresh set each summer as they get downgraded to loungewear, as the year goes on. I end up having nothing once next summer rolls around. Socks, well they are all black and mismatched. My friends usually check for socks because they know I got some mismatch party going on I have gotten better, at least they are all black now. Undies, bras, pj's etc, I guess as I see fit. I seems I replenish the bulk of these items, before going on vacation.

I was just doing my biannual edit and putting some in the donation box. The whites need
replacement more often but generally I restock once or twice per year on the basic white, black, grey and navy. J Crew is my source.

Do you sort of 'schedule in' the need to replace these things?
