The only part of that question that I can answer with confidence is the bra part. I have five bras, three of them in heavy rotation, and I find they wear out after about a year. The two "special events" bras can go several years, because I don't wear them all that much.

As for undies...I must have fifty or sixty pairs. I'm not sure how I managed to collect so many! They take up so little drawer space. I have no idea what the replacement timeline is on those. I wear some all the time, but I never put them in the dryer, so they last a long time. Others I've had for ten years, like those blasted thongs that I'm not sure why I bought and can't seem to bring myself to throw out because they're barely worn. :-)

And sleepwear? I don't know that either. I usually sleep in a tee shirt and underpants. I've got lots of them. In the morning I put on some loose yoga pants so I'm not walking around the house half-naked. I would guess I replace the yoga pants every two or three years. They don't wear out very quickly.

I think I heard Oprah changed sheets every other day (and ironed them!) but of course *she* isn't doing the work, someone else is! For us mere mortals I'm sure once a week is the best we can hope for, but I'm sure we do ours more like bi-weekly.

Anne no fear I don't religiously wash sheets either, my excuse is there is only usually me sleeping in a king size bed so I can swap sides to double the wear x

I bought some new winter PJs 5 years after the previous purchase. My summer ones are a mix of nighties that were gifts from my in laws years ago and hand me downs, oh and one ginormous pair I bought when I was pregnant!

In winter I often wear my lounge wear to bed because I feel too cold to strip off. I have been know to wear my summer clothes to bed too if I am really tired.

I replace my knickers when they get holes in them, and my bras when the back fabric gets loose. (or when they get too big ie maternity etc)

I was surprised to hear of washing pyjamas every 2 days. Not sure how often mine are done but not that frequently!

This thread has prompted me to keep an eye on how often change my sheets - not very often I am afraid. Most days I wash several sets of my kids sheets so it is easy to forget about my own. (So I have now marked it on the calendar!)

Well the older the comfortable they get and though I am reluctant to change my cosy sleepwear and undies I change them when they are torn or damaged. Other wise they just fine with me as long as they are clean and wearable. As for my bras I tend to change them when the straps tend to get loose.

One look at my closet pics from today and you can see I have at least 2 week's worth of PJ's and maybe double that amount of undies and socks! I don't have to replace all that often because rotating between more pairs makes them all last longer. I probably get a couple of year's wear out of most of the items, some many more. A few bite the dust in a year but that's rare. I tend to add here and there, not in a big spree all at once.

I like Meredith's philosophy!

I hadn't really pinpointed it until now but I tend to buy new sleepwear before trips/vacations. I sort of hate long pj bottoms and nightgowns though so they last me forever. Would rather sleep in short sets.

Every year or so I clean out the drawers and try to dispose of bad looking items. I also have a pair of pink flannel bottoms that are about the only thing that will do when I am sick - comfort pjs!

What I need to be better about is replacing bathrobes as that seems to get the most wear and tear for me.

Glad to see i am about on track too. I have 3 good bras i recently purchased and one nursing bra i still use if our outing is over a nursing time for DD. I do however have about 35 (!) pair of undies because my fave style was on a great sale and i stocked up about a year ago. At this number they seem to get very little wear and i dont anticipate replacing for another year at least. I dont really have PJ's... race t shirts from 5Ks and triathlons plus some old shorts/DH boxers seem to fit the bill here for me.

Bras and panties, about every 6 months. I don't own tons of them, and that's about how long the elastic lasts when they are in heavy rotation. Pajamas can go longer, maybe 2 years for the best quality ones.

Same as Meredith and Janet here. I have PJs that only the family sees anyway so I go for comfort and have some that are quite old (maternity ones that are still super comfy) but I have a few more decent pair for when we vacation and others might see them.

I will snap up undies when I see a good deal but generally end up replacing a large batch at least annually. Bras same thing.

Meredith's guidelines are similar to mine. Usually stuff gets the boot when it's visibly worn, elastic stretches out, etc.

That said, I have some pajama pants (cut very much like loose yoga pants) from Target that I have had for at least 7 years. They're getting faded and worn, but dang if they aren't the softest, most comfortable things I own. Also a loose American Eagle tee that has to be at least a decade old! But don't worry, I have nicer, cuter sleepwear too. I like Natori and PJSalvage.

I have enough underwear that, in theory, I can go three weeks without doing laundry, but I've never actually had to put that to the test!

I replace when they develop rips, tears, holes, stains or just look "funky". Basically if I would be mortified to be in an accident, knocked out, and having an EMT looking at them, then yes I replace them.

Thanks for the insights ladies.

I have always replaced sleepwear items as and when necessary and this looks like the norm, I'm liking the multiples of three for the sleepwear and perhaps sets for warmer and cooler weather.

Sometimes I keep on top of my washing others not, so two weeks worth of undies sounds a good number to aim for.

Clearly claire, fleece jammies sound snug, I switch my duvet for a heavier one in winter so I think I'd be too warm sleeping in them but I'd love them as loungwear x

Hmmm. I have one winter sleep set and one summer at a time. I just wash every couple of days. At the end of every (long, hot) summer, my nightgown is ready to retire. Literally. Winter jammies last longer for me, and this year I tried fleece ones for the first time and they're super warm!

I usually have three or four bras in rotation. I replace them every year or so. I have 6 pair expensive undies and 6 old cotton ones for "those days". Since I do laundry often this works for me.

Since I travel a lot and don't manage to launder while I travel, I'm afraid I often have half my things 'in the wash' a lot. If I had a less itinerant life, a week's worth (7 pairs of undies, 4 bras, 3 sets of sleepwear) might do it.

As it is, I'd be beside myself if I didn't have about 12 pairs of *clean* undies at any given time. So make that 15 or so at least in use. This ensures I'm never out of clean underwear entirely. I tend to buy them in bunches, every six months or so, about half a dozen at a time. I typically rotate out a half dozen every six months too. Right now, I must have a dozen new stashed away to rotate in later this year, in two installments.

Bras I tend to have fewer of, but less than 7 dependable (as opposed to fun ones) would be difficult. I always make sure there's at least a couple packed away in my travel capsule should I have to leave in a hurry. That's still enough in rotation to last me at least a couple of years apiece in very good condition (I make sure the loosest hooks and strap adjustments fit when I buy them, so I have scope to adjust as it starts to lose elasticity). Good bras at a good price *are* hard to find, so these I plan to replace every couple of years and start to keep an eye out for new ones as the 'expiry date' draws close.

As for sleepwear, 4-5 sets for summer and 3 for winter typically suffices; and I keep 2 pairs aside for travelling again. And I do tend to wear these until they are worn (cotton fabrics mostly, so until they start to rip and fall apart very literally). I just threw out a bunch that have to be over 5 years old I think...The newest I currently have are about a couple of years old.

I'm going to preface this with the fact that DH isn't a night gear dude, so I go for my own comfort. If he liked things sassier it might be a different story! So I just replace as needed - when things are gross, or worn out, or uncomfortable.

I have maybe 4 sets of nightgear for each season, and enough undies for 2 weeks+. Ditto bras. It gets so hot here I cant repeat-wear bras in the summer, so I need a few weeks' supply. Hope that helps.

I always replace them when they start to get damaged and then buy depending on what I tossed out. I don't have regular intervals for underwear or sleepwear shopping. I think I have enough underwear to last me about two weeks without having to do laundry, three sets of sleepwear for fall/winter and three sets for spring/summer.

I picked up some new knickers today and have been bra hunting as I've had mine a while (a couple of years) but how often do bras and knickers really need replacing? When they start to get damaged or at regular intervals?

The same with sleepwear. I recently binned some pyjmas as they were getting a bit tight but another pair I bought at the same time I've kept as they still fit are just a bit faded but they must be at least 2 years old. Do you keep yours till they disintegrate or replace regularly?

Also being nosy how many sets of sleepwear do you have? and how much underwear? x
