I so needed this thread. I am/was team natural with minimal time for hair and makeup, (just mascara and a bit of concealer) for the last 20 years. But I am more and more frustrated with seeing myself later in the day looking tired and unpolished. I want to join team polished! I have upped the game on makeup after seeing Karmindy videos. So now I use concealer, eye liner in gel form to get my eyes to appear again, pluck eyebrows (well daughter does it for me because I haven't learned how yet), and mascara. When winter pale I am adding a touch of color on cheeks but not lips. I don't feel they need color, I still want to look natural

However, I am really struggling with the hair. I tried a short do with cool factors but found it is too high maintenance for me to keep it spiky and fun all day. I am letting the hair grow out now and want to find a new shoulder do when it gets there. THis thread really inspires me to have fab hair also.

Late responding but I had to since you mentioned this post I had to come and investigate. Hair and make-up are essential for me. I am on team polished and I feel unfinished when I do not address both hair and make up no matter how smashing the outfit is. If I can't do my hair a sassy hat must be in place with make up. At the very least with makeup I will address my eyes and brows even if all I have on my lips is balm. I simply feel invisible without makeup because people do not notice me in the same way without it.

I am quite lazy so I only do minimum grooming. I wash my hair 3x week and blow dry with head upside down, as my hair is fine it dryes very quickly, I rarely use product. Then I use eye pencil every morning and occasionally blush. More would be better but I am just too lazy. Also, I think I would have trouble with foundation as my face tends to sweat easily and that would make a mess.

I use perfume most days (unless I forget), I love it and it does not take up any time!

Don't know how I totally missed this thread. My hair is easy but I do spend some time prepping my skin for the day - serum, sunscreen and some sort of foundation are the minimum. Lately it has finally occurred to me that along with camouflage I might devote some effort to highlighting my better features - haven't quite worked that out yet though.

The only place I go without full hair and makeup is the gym! Otherwise, it's full makeup (foundation, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara), blow dry and flatiron every day. I just got a Brazilian blowout, which eliminates the need for the flatiron and cuts total hair-and-makeup time from about 25 minutes to about 10 minutes.

I get my color touched up every three weeks, without fail, and get it cut on maybe every third salon visit.

So yes, I think hair and makeup are important parts of my look!

That said, my style is RATE and I do nothing. I have to have a haircut that styles itself.

I just got my hair cut and highlighted. Boy, do I feel better! My stylist advised against going with an ash shade and instead recommended a neutral light brown, which is a little lighter than my natural hair color. Looks great, and I feel fab! So yes, hair is important.

Having my hair and makeup done makes me feel put together and polished. I have been feeling frumpy and unfinished the last several months and I know it's because I've been growing out my hair. I have the kind of hair that looks great and is easy to manage when it is either really short or at least shoulder length. The in between stage is very difficult.

I'm really low maintenance, but still don't go to work or "out" with the BF or friends without makeup.

I won't go anywhere without a shower, but I shower in 3 minutes and comb my hair and am ok with going places with it wet. It dries by itself and unless I've picked some sort or complex style I can go months without a cut.

I wear makeup most days, but my minimum routine takes me 30 seconds (concealer under eyes, on birthmark, on any spots, powder to set). My biggest expenditure of time is to make sure I keep up with eyebrow grooming once a week or a bit more.

Hair and makeup very important, in a lazy way.

I get my short hair cut and coloured, (highlighted and grey covered) every 5 weeks. However, it gets half heartedly blown dry in about 4 minutes with wax pomade and a quick squirt of hairspray to hold and shape, it is a huge part of my style.

Makeup is under eye concealer, CC cream (best thing invented EVER!), mascara, liner lipgloss and blush, takes 8 minutes, tops. Also, I have patches of vitiligo on my face, another reason I don't go out without makeup.

I never ever leave the house without either done. When I work from home I skip the full makeup, cover my vitiligo, add mascara and coloured lip balm so I don't scare anyone

Hair and makeup are non-negotiables for me. I have a five minute makeup routine and this short hair is done in 30 seconds. This small time investment has a huge payoff in terms of what I see in the mirror (beauty multiplied) and how ready I am to face the world (bring it on!).

Pretty important. I do something every day (unless it's one of those rare and precious pajama days where I don't leave the house). The bigger variable is how long I spend. I've got the kind of hair which can look fantastic or pretty terrible, or anything in between. I don't wash it every day. Some days I wake up and it looks cute and tousled and I barely have to do anything. Other days it needs a wash. Or else it doesn't really need a wash but I've slept in such a way that it's flat on one side and curly on the other, or sticking out like a porcupine that's lost half its quills, and it needs serious intervention.

I get it cut every four months or so. I get a different cut each time. I'm very happy with my hairstylist.

I always do a bit of makeup, too. Mascara, blush and a bit of face makeup. If I don't my pale eyelashes and pale grey eyes disappear into my pale white face. For some reason I'm not bothered by pale eyebrows, but if I'm going out for the evening, I darken them. And nearly always wear lipstick, just for the joy of it. I'm not a fan of colour in clothing -- I dress in neutrals 95% of the time -- but I love bright or dark colours on the lips.

Hair and make-up are an integral part to my style - so, yes - I spend time on them everyday. Hair probably takes me 10 minutes - makeup another 5 to 7 minutes - but, I can cram a lot into those 5 to 7 minutes! Foundation, concealer, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara and brow pencil. I get my hair trimmed and roots covered every 4 weeks. And - its a wrap!!!!!

Hair has always been important to me, but given that I have curly hair it doesn't take much doing in the morning. I've never been one to wear a ponytail or headband or things like that.

Makeup is relatively new to me (only the past year), and I rarely leave home without it now. When I don't wear it, I get the "you look tired" comments! But honestly, I feel SO much better with it on, and I think it's fun. I'd rather spend my time putting makeup on that accessorizing my outfits. It only takes me 10 minutes to do a full face, though I do a relatively natural look. I don't know how to do more dramatic looks.

Yes hair and makeup is important to me. I have very fine, very straight hair so I keep it short. It used to be dark but I have a lot of silver in it now. I stopped dying it in my 30s as it was just too high maintenance and I suffer from eczema so didn't want to keep using the chemicals. I get it cut every 6 weeks. I do use make up most days including foundation, concealer, powder, blush, mascara and lipstick. I hardly use eyeshadow at all only for special occasions. My makeup does look natural though. I only reapply the lipstick during the day. My hair is very quick to style and I use a texturising product. Makeup takes about 5 mins. Having all your products organised and easy to find really helps. Mine are in a clear zipped makeup bag.

StaceyMcGill posted: "I think the key to a quick hair/makeup routine is having a cut that you don't have to fight against, and having the right makeup products for your skin type and coloring. Then it feels like very little extra work."

I totally agree! I got tired of fighting with my hair a long time ago, so I now have a style that works with what my hair naturally will/won't do. If it weren't for rosacea, my skincare routine would be faster, but at least my Rx medications keep things under control and I've found my best makeup colors. With the right products and colors, there's no longer struggle to "get it right" lol.

I'm one who like to look natural, but puts in at least a little effort every day. I have hyper-pigmentation. Thank you, hormones, so I wear a mineral foundation in Summer and a BB cream in Winter. I may upgrade to CC this year! I always wear concealer, mascara, and a subtle blush. Somedays, I add eye shadow,, blended liner and lipstick. Recently, I've become a fan of the Revlon Balm Stain -- particularly the red shade called "Romantic." Allison at Wardrobe Oxygen profiled it a couple of months back. I wear it sheerly, and it wears off in an attractive way.

This week, for the first time, I let someone else color my hair and give me highlights. She did a beautiful job, but I'm not sure about the highlights --- particularly because, without the big promo special, they are very expensive. Because I can continue to get a cut/color for $55 dollars, and she gave a great cut, I'll probably give up the box color.

Yep, hair and makeup is a must for me, too. Left alone, my hair is not quite straight/not quite wavy. Just blowdrying greatly improves the situation; I only flat iron when I have extra time.

I don't overdo the makeup, but I feel 100% better when I'm wearing a little something to even out my skin tone and brighten my eyes. I don't reapply throughout the day, although I blot my face if it gets too shiny.

I think the key to a quick hair/makeup routine is having a cut that you don't have to fight against, and having the right makeup products for your skin type and coloring. Then it feels like very little extra work.

My looks change drastically by my hair so If I don't spend time styling my hair I'm more apt to slump around in sloppy clothes. Make-up...not so important, maybe because my I'm pretty happy with my complexion.

I am so pale and pasty-faced that I simply HAVE to wear make-up or I will be asked if I am sick. I just wear a little, but I rarely leave the house without it. I also always fix my hair and keep it colored - no way am I showing those gray's!

I'm pretty meh on both. I get my hair cut regularly but I only wash it every 3 or 4 days - I try to let it air dry then straighten it, but not always. I've been using a leave-in conditioner called "It's a 10" that is kind of miraculous.

For face it's lotion, eyeliner, lipstick. If I remember it, maybe some highlighter... I wear glasses so mascara is a no.

I usually wash my hair at night and let it air dry, then flat iron it in the morning. I find that blow drying it takes a really long time and it is still bushy, but maybe it's just cause I'm bad at it.

I feel like my eyes are on the small side, so I do think I look a lot better with eyeliner. I don't like to wear mascara because I feel like it inevitably gets in one's eyes and that freaks me out a little.

I have thin lips that are sort of pink as compared to my pale skin, so I've never used lipstick more than for special occasions. I am starting to experiment with lipstick more these days, though, and I found a covergirl lipstain that lasts a really long time and looks pretty natural, which is nice. I can put it on in the morning and stil have traces of it on by dinner.

All in all, I find personal grooming (including showering, shaving, makeup, etc.) to be so frustratingly BORING. So I have to force myself to do it.

My hair always has to be blow dried and flat ironed, no wash and wear for me, not even with a pixie. It will curl up weirdly if left to its own devices. Makeup, always when I'm dressed up for work or going out. On weekends, I don't mind just putting on some sunscreen, as a bare face seems ok with more casual clothing.

Hair and makeup have always been important to me although most people cannot tell I have makeup on. As I get older I find I need more because my coloring seems to be dulling. I am enjoying my hair longer and find I am taking more time styling it. Longer hair is also giving me more style options. Something I never thought about before, always having very short hair.

Great topic. Important and somehow easier to overlook while focusing on the apparently more fun things. Why are we more willing to spend the time and money on fashion and wardrobe for our style yet we can get stuck in ruts and blind spots or even neglect with hair or face for the longest time?

I read somewhere that hair and shoes are the most important aspects to style. Get then right and it will make everything else likely to work for you. Get them wrong and it doesn't much matter how excellent the outfit and accessories are. Since reading that, I haven't seen anything to make me disagree. Wouldn't you know they're the two things I wrestle with most!

For hair and face I think it's less about how much time and effort we spend and more about self-awareness. Some people can do wash and go or minimal in either or both areas and look great, needing extra fussing for only the special occasions. Others, whether to be consistent with a polished style persona or just to work with what nature has or hasn't given us, need to give it a lot more attention. Either way can lead to getting it right, we just have to own up to whether we're getting it right for us.

So much easier to go buy a new blouse and scrape back the hair yet again. She says with hair too hot to wear in summer but knowing pulling it out of the way all the time is not really removing it from the style equation nor solving it.

I'm fairly low maintenance. I don't wear make-up most days (except tinted lip balm and/or lip stain), but I always wash and blow-dry my hair. I feel like it gives my hair an extra bit of ohmph and make me feel a little sassier. I think once I move from student to professional, I'll start wearing make-up every day.

My hair is extremely important to my style. As important as perfect fit. As because I bat for Team Polished, I always wear a touch of light make-up. I like my face to look shiny like an apple. It's healthy, and suits my minimalist style preferences.

I devote time to my hair and face every morning of my life. It is a must.
