I also tend to a more static/structured look, with a few exceptions, mostly in summer.

It is getting that magic mix between structure/movement and comfort that is the key thing for me.

Definitely structure, although with limited room for movement. Following Janet's example, I would say I am probably 80/20 or 85/15 structure/flow. I like bell cuffs much more than bell sleeves and structured wide leg pants as opposed to drapey thin fabric pajama-esque pants. I like the idea of a full skirt but can't wear one because I am waist-less; even if I had a waist I am not sure it would fit my style. I love the look though and really appreciate it on others.

I wear bangles regularly and like loose silhouettes, fringe, tassels, etc. It's part of my boho vibe.

I definitely prefer movement. While I often wear slim pants or leggings to offer some structure to an outfit, I very much favour flowy tunics, layered and/or asymmetrical tops, swishy skirts on dresses, etc. I occasionally indulge in structured jackets, but only because they bring balance to an otherwise high-movement top. I think this is part of the reason I prefer dresses to pants overall - it is easier to get a balance between the swish of the skirt (I almost always wear a fit and flare style and sometimes shifts) and the definition of the waist and bodice.

Then again, for work I need to be able to squat, kneel, reach and sometimes sit on the floor. Clothing that moves with me is a must.

I like movement. Everything is movement to me, even when I wear skin tight skinny jeans and form fitting knit tops with ballerinas, for me these items move, only they move glued to me, instead of further away, like flowey skirts and blouses. Too much structure for me means my mom's 1950's square tops or triangular shift dresses. My clothes moving with me means they work for me, not the reverse. I am team movement all the way. In my view, and for my built, structure tends to hide my body, whereas movement reveals it.

I like structure - strong shoulders, narrow sleeves & Princess seams but only with a stretch fabric. I also like drape & asymmetry with softer non-stretch fabric.

I wear mostly closer cut In pants/jeans and loose, oversized on top. I occasionally wear fitted blazers but prefer more of a boyfriend style. And no frills I used to like fluid, a-line tops biut don't like them on me anymore. I try to choose the oversized tops that are proportional to my petite frame and have a bit of structure mostly in the shoulders or sleeves area. On of my favorite styles in tops is a boxy top with tight fitted sleeves.

I'm more of a structure person. I think I'm about 75/25% structure-to-"movement". I like an occasional flowy piece, especially in summer, but I prefer structure on me.

I don't care to make noise when I'm in motion, and I don't like jangly jewelry -- an old preference partly because of a career in radio in which I always had to be sure I wasn't wearing anything that clanked or jangled when I am on mic.

I really like the polkadot skirt with the white dots. That would be a good one with sneakers.

I guess I'm sort of in the middle. On the bottom especially, I prefer tighter fits. If I had a different lifestyle, I would wear more floaty midi skirts, but I find them a very feminine look for work, and not practical with my grade school kids.

Ps: What I mean by feminine at work is that I stand out, and I don't really want to stand out that much. This is a confidence issue for me, I think.

Interesting question that I had never thought about before. I tend to like flowy clothes I think, fuller skirts, tops with gathers or trapeze shapes. But my pants are generally more structured and I'm not into very "girly" styles. Maybe that's why I prefer cardigans to jackets, the looser shapes and movement (generally speaking). I would have to say team movement.

I don't know about deeper psychology, but I think it comes down to yin/yang balance. Structure is yang, moving/draping/swishy is yin. For my body type, lots of structure is a good thing and then my yin gets expressed in details. So team Structure with a nice dose of movement.

I am benched because I bat for both teams. I enjoy skirts and dresses with movement, but love wearing blazers and tailored pants. I cannot wear voluminous clothing because it swamps my rather small frame. I wear dangly ear-rings but never bracelets because I don't like the jangly feeling or noise. I have a gold cuff that I wear all the time, because it does not move and feels nice and solid on my arm.

Interesting topic. I lean towards structure but I do wear some movement. I wear dangly earrings, bangles, scarves, layered hair and some bottoms that swish. I don't wear anything that makes a noise. That would drive me bonkers. My top half is tailored and pretty structured except for the accessories and hair.
I think it is partly body type and partly personality. I don't like how I look in flowy clothing but I am also neat and tidy with a quirk.

This is an interesting topic; I had never considered whether I have a preference for movement in clothing. I think that part of what deters me from having a lot of movement in clothing is that much of that type of clothing seems to me to be too "girly" for my style. I do enjoy a good flowy maxi skirt in a boho style, and I've been looking for just the right peasant blouse for a long time now, but overall, my closet is predominantly static clothes that are very tailored.

Noise drives me nuts, but I don't mind a bit of swish on the bottom. I'm not sure if the CeCe dress counts as swishy, but it's a little twirly, same as the under $15 dress I just bought at Uniqlo. The dress-I-wear-as-a-top (3rd Find) and last Find I count as swishing on the bottom because the movement is so low.

Movement on top would function as a duster, and I don't mean a long loose coat. Or maybe a food paintbrush. At any rate, not a good idea for me. I will enjoy it on others.

I like structure a lot. I do like some fluid fits (silk shirts) and large items like my heavy cardigan, but they all fall into the structured category in my mind.

Back when I did more social and folk dance, I had a collection of swishy skirts because they're just better for dancing. But they never really felt like me. I have a dance performance tonight for St Patrick's Day (step dance), and there will be social folk dancing after I perform. I brought shorts instead of a skirt for the social part because I just wasn't feeling excited about a skirt. But I'm glad I have some as a fringe part of my wardrobe.

A few years ago Tibi and other brands had a lot of full midi skirts from heavy taffeta and similar materials - so, somewhere between swishy and structured. I liked the look even though it was more feminine than my usual.

Was going to say I hate movement. But it's not quite true. I'm wearing some flappy wide leg track pants right now.

Hate noise tho. Hate sweaters and jackets that fall open. Hate flapping at the wrists. I like the look, but I feel like I'm fighting my clothes. I did, tho, get some non-flappy bell sleeve sweaters. They exist!

Also, good point about flowy, drapey fabrics. Those I like.

I'm with you LP, I am mostly structured, but I am feeling a shift toward swishy skirts. For example, I have a black pencil skirt and a swingy black skirt (not as full as your photos.) I haven't reached for the pencil skirt in quite some time.

I also think it has to do with my IT body type. Any time I put anything fluffy on my upper half, I look ridiculously huge and feel so not myself as well.

I have a strong preference for structure. I've had a hard time fitting my preferences into some of the common labels used here - what IS a "modern classic" anyway?. But the underlying theme in my wardrobe is definitely that I prefer clothes that generally follow the lines of the body. Not body con, by any means, but no full skirts, bell sleeves, wide leg pants, etc. Never thought about it, but I don't typically wear dangling earrings or bracelets, either. HMMMMMM.

I think your interest in a swishy skirt makes perfect sense - every once in a while it is fun to do something different!

No movement at all! Can't stand constantly shifting things back into place. If I wear a full skirt, I'm constantly worried that's it's riding up and I'm flashing the world!

More on the side of structure here - although my dresses usually have A-line skirts, to me that's less about movement and more a silhouette and comfort preference, as I don't like feeling constricted around the hips - along the lines of your comment of wanting clothes to stay out of the way. Interesting observations!

Oh man, shoes that make noise. So frustrating because you often can't tell until you've worn them a couple times. I was in a university library yesterday, silent study floor, and my newish shoes started squeaking as I walked. :/

Generally I'm somewhere in the middle - I don't like excessive fabric, anything that will get in my way like bell sleeves or wrist ruffles. But neither do I like full-on fitted structure, at least not for everyday. I want my clothes to allow me to move and breathe and generally not think about them or have to adjust them all the time.

Its interesting how movement is so tied to sound. I have earrings that sway back and fort silently. I have sweaters and dresses that flutter and flow without making noise either. I am definitely a person who likes movement in my outfits. I brought it up in one of my recent posts.

I like the quiet jangle and tinkling of my bangles. I like the swishy noise of a skirt when I walk. I like things that flutter quietly. If things get to the level of flapping like a flag in the wind, clomping like a horse, or jingling like a bell it's too much! I associate crinkling with stiff fabrics which I hate, so that would not be acceptable.

I had a coworker for two decades that everyone could identify at least 30 seconds before she arrived by her clicking clomping heels on the floor. I do my best to avoid that.

The movement I enjoy is hopefully graceful, and pleasant, and not anything that is disruptive or distracting to anyone else.

Hmm. I like...both? Maybe? For some reason, I'm struggling over personal style concepts this week. I think I do like movement, but I prefer it to come with some structure and heft. I'm not a big fan of "diaphanous." That Uniqlo skirt really appeals to me!

About the only place that I like some movement is a swishy skirt but it must hang straight or my legs look too thin. I abhor clothing that makes noise when I move and have problems finding waterproof coats that don't rustle. Like JAileen, I have returned coats that make that crinkle sound or shoes that make or develop a noise.
