Hi. I had my Frye Veronica boots stretched approximately one full inch in the shaft by a cobbler. It took about 2 weeks and was $25.00. He stretched it on a full shaft stretcher and increased it gradually each day.
I had tried to do it at home but could not get the amount I needed.
I have them on right now and they are fabulous!!!!

I had my Frye Melissa's stretched by a cobbler. It took about a week and I got an extra half an inch (or a little more). The stretcher they use is full shaft so they kept their shape. And to keep the shape/stretch I use rolled up magazines in the shaft. I haven't had a lot of luck doing this myself at home with other boots, it was worth the $20.

Yeah; I just got really frustrated one day and told my dad about the boots. I guess they did the newspaper thing when hand-me-down shoes didn't quite fit the next kid.

The trick is you have to really pack it in there.

I don't think I'd need too much room, maybe a half inch or so. As I said, they do zip right now, it's just painfully tight. I'll have to see what the shaft is lined with though... I feel like boot shafts tend to be thicker and more often lined with non-stretch material, so I'm not sure it would be as easy as stretching the foot.

Lyn, I will try the newspaper thing, thanks for the suggestion! If it doesn't work, I can still return them and no additional expense incurred.

I just shoved a whole bunch of newspapers into the shaft and left it for a week. I didn't need my shaft to spread out very much but it did the trick and got the little rubbing part fixed.

How much additional room do you think you need? Leather does stretch, but I'm not sure how much. I think I read that you can usually get a half to full size extra out of the toe box by putting water in a ziploc, putting it in place, and sticking it all in the freezer. To get that much you might have to walk through that process more than once, as you're really just stretching by the amount the water expands from liquid to solid.

Although I've never had this particular problem my guess is that you won't be able to stretch them. I don't know the brand but they look high quality, so I would expect they would hold their shape pretty well. If they are too uncomfortable I would return, if you try and stretch them and it doesn't work you might be stuck with them!!

Hopefully someone with first hand experience will be able to chime in.

I don't know the answer to this but I've always meant to stop by a cobbler and ask so I'm watching this thread with interest.

And can I do it myself at home? (My cobbler is decent but expensive and very slow, and I'd rather do it myself if I can).

So I got the AGL boots from the Nordstrom half-yearly sale yesterday, and they barely, just barely zip over my bare legs or my skinniest skinnies. The problem is that they are so tight that they hurt and are probably cutting off circulation. The tight part is just below the elastic gore, so there is no stretch built in there.

The big pro of this pair of boots is that the ankles actually FIT. You know how rare that is for me. They are pretty comfy too. Cons are the too-tight calf and the fact that they are, even on sale, still very expensive for me. And no gold zippers (they are all black).

I should take some pictures soon to show you guys, I know, to see if they are even worth stretching.
