Krish, thank goodness I am not the only one who is like that! Everyone else's routines seem so flawless. Mine is like yours...lots of changes, lots of things not working out and having to start over, etc.

I would hazard that it takes me at least an hour to get ready in the morning. And I even shower at night and live alone. But I have a lot of health problems, so I have to go slow, and I also have to make sure that I eat a good breakfast that isn't rushed. I also spend a decent amount of time on my hair (15 min.?), because if I don't add a little water and conditioner to my hair in the a.m., it will be bone dry within hours and just hang there.

Krish -- you and I are decision-challenged sisters! Never do I get through a morning routine without at least one major change in plan.

When I worked at Uni -- a more traditional schedule, I took 45 minutes for it all -- including breakfast, helping kids get ready, and checking email and YLF! If I needed to dry my hair -- an hour.

I still wake up an hour before I need to leave, in general. And I do have a routine:
1. morning stretch
2. Quiet Time -- just 10 minutes. In my world, God's not a morning person either
3. Shower -- moisturize, brush teeth
4. Get dressed -- change my mind three times, which means rehanging
all the rejects
5. Makeup 5 minutes
6. Hair -- just a quick brush and scrunch, unless I need to blow dry
7. Reading, walking the dog, checking email, social media and YLF, with what time is left.

(I should mention that I get up at 6 to help my 8th and 9th graders get ready for school. We make lunches together and check signals for the day --- just because they're 14, that doesn't mean I don't want to send them off with a hug. If my schedule allows -- I go back to bed until 8! That's when the above sequence kicks in!

I need very exactly 40 minutes. Not one minute less, not one more.
Shower;
Contact lenses : A stressful moment! Must often do it all over again because of a particle bothering my eyeball;
Moisturizer: Mixing a pea size inexpensive cream with the (large) pea size overpriced high end sunscreen;
Hair de-tangling, product, blow dry, a painful, fastidious process.
Brows: Penciling one, then the other, using the gauge, then realizing they are not even and one is too dark, rubbing them off, trying to start over, decide there is not enough time, rubbing again, dotting concealer on the now redden area; Feeling discouraged because now they look paler than before.
Make-up finally something fun - but must hurry. So frustrating! Concealer, mascara, blush, powder, done.
Dressing: Slipping on one set of clothes; Deciding against one element; Having to change everything because then nothing else works; Adding jewelry; Sighing loudly and profusely (this is why it's a very personal, solitary process); Checking for bra showing, see through zones, neckline too low, hemlines, odd wrinkles, defects etc; Sometimes having to change entire outfit again because of one defective or less desirable element.
Footwear: Try on two or three types of footwear; Finally decide on one; Remember I have to stand up and run around in it all day; Swap for my most sensible shoes; Realize my whole outfit is destroyed; Swap back to my first choice; Swear (softly!) because I don't find my shoe bag in order to elegantly carry the sensible pair - for when I can't wear the cuter ones anymore, which I predict will be around 2 pm.
Finding a suitable purse: Saying out loud: "Where is my phone?"; Grabbing my phone; Remembering the need for a purse; Hitting my head with my hand; Checking the metal on my jacket /buckle /etc.; Eliminating half of available options ; Looking for an ideal purse I have in my mind but not in my closet; keep looking and wasting time, but the purse in question is not showing up because it doesn't exist; Finally falling back on one of the two same purses I wear 90% of the time which is either black or tan; Making sure I fill it with the correct minimal items.

In the winter, I must also add a coat, boots, winter accessories... and do this 10 minutes early so I can remove the snow from the car. It's exhausting and I wonder how is it that I still do it!

20-35 minutes, depending on whether I'm washing my hair that day or just refreshing it. Shower, dry/style hair, minimal makeup, dressed. I try to figure out what I want to wear either the night before, or while I'm showering.

Wow, most of you are
faster than me. My schedule is at least an hour and more like Aziraphale
except I have 4 doggies, not kids. When
I wake up, I go outside with my dogs and clean up their poop (remember 4 dogs)
and play with them to burn some energy. That
doesn’t include exercising, which I do for 30 – 40 min after I go outside with
my dogs.

If I have to: 15 minutes. I have my clothes ready the night before. In the morning, shower, product in hair (short hair helps and I don't blow dry so just scrunch up with product), makeup. The longer version is about half an hour when I do full makeup and linger and enjoy the warm water in the shower.

I became a shower-at-night person when I started living with the guy who's now DH. He takes a loooong shower every morning. It's not worth fighting over who gets the hot water. Also, he doesn't like breakfast, so I eat mine while he's in the shower. So my morning is:

Feed dog, let dog out in the yard.

Make coffee and toast for me, still in PJs or robe at this point. This is when I check emails and blogs and such.

Let dog back in.

I also make DH's lunch and lay out his clothes (he's like a large child; he just changed jobs and went from extreme casual to office-casual and doesn't know how to dress himself anymore).

Wash face, brush hair, brush teeth, put on sunscreen.

Choose an outfit and get dressed. Try to remember to drink at least 8 oz of water before I head out the door, or at least to fill a bottle to take with me.

Lip balm and perfume, if I remember.

Usually my toddler wakes up sometime between steps 1 and 2, which means helping him potty, get dressed, (sometimes) eat something, brush hair and teeth, etc. It takes me a little over an hour to get all three of us (or 4 if you count the dog) ready for the day.

Thank you everyone for answering!!!!!!! This has been wildly helpful to me. I was reading your answers and thinking 1) it doesn't have to be an hour getting fabulous in front of the mirror and 2) I can friggin' spend the extra 15-20 minutes a day on me to greet my day on my terms. I imagine if I decide on a routine and actually do it repeatedly it will flow faster. And If I put my clothes out ahead of time.

ps- how I marvel at those of you who don't have to wash your hair every day or who shower at night; I have repeatedly tried both those tactics without success.

Since I'm at the gym most nights, I shower and moisturize after my workout.

Weekdays I'm up at 5:45. Coffee and breakfast while I empty the dishwasher and put lunches together (DH does a morning shower and makes the bed). At 6:20 I brush my teeth, wash my face (just water), moisturize (SPF, sometimes tinted), sort my hair (with curly hair, less is best. I usually just use a 'fro pick to lift flat spots.). Get dressed (clothes picked out the night before from capsule picked out on the weekend!). I'm out the door at 6:45.

I'll put lippy on in the car while waiting for the train. I get my lashes and brows tinted.

My actual 'routine', is really variable. It all depends.

If it's a bakery day, it all starts with getting up, throwing on dog walking clothes, brushing teeth etc. That's 15-20 min. Then a walk, which will include coffee and a pastry for my entertainment. That's about 45 to an hour. Maybe I'll putter for an hour or two and eat again about 11:30 am. Then I go down for a nap. Then I jump up at 2, dress in 5 (I'm a uniform dresser here), another 5 to pack a work snack, 5 to say bye to Lilypup. That's 15. If I'm late, I skip the snack packing, so that's 10.

It sorta just gets worse from there. If I've got an at home writing project, it's five. Because I basically get up, microwave hot water, open the backyard door for Lilypup, and get working.

If it's a day off, where I'll run errands, maybe I'll take a half hour and wear an actual free form outfit. But this may or may not happen before the dog walk.

If I'm going to the doctor's I have to allow for 45 minutes, because I'm going to go to McD's. I need a treat to go into the city and sit in traffic...

30 minutes to an hour, depending on whether I shower and wash and dry hair and have decided ahead of time what to wear. This includes taking meds and breakfast. DH takes care of the dog and starts the coffee. A more leisurely morning includes getting on the I-pad to check YLF, email, etc. it is interesting to read everyone's routines.

Wow. I feel incredibly unstructured after reading this! I like a lot of variety in my "routine". I am definitely not a morning person - I plan an extra 30 min to an hour to hit the snooze button and convince myself that I can't stay in bed. Some mornings I shower and some I don't. Sometimes I get dressed first and then put on makeup and do my hair and other times I stay in PJ's or robe while getting ready. I also alternate whether I do my hair or makeup first. I only wash my hair every 3-4 days (my hair behaves better when it's not too clean). It definitely takes me an hour if I have to shower and blow dry my hair, and it takes about 30 if not. I never eat breakfast until well into my work morning. I am trying to cut my snooze time in half so I can exercise for half an hour in the morning. (And by try, I mean that I did that this morning. I'd like to have hope that this will become a habit, but I don't have a good track record with structure and routine. Ugh!) Oh wait, I do have one consistent thing in the whole process - coffee. Always coffee - as soon as possible.

I am a morning person, and my morning goes like this:
Get up, feed the dogs, take the dogs out (10 min.)
exercise (30 min.)
breakfast (10 min.)
The remaining time:
shower
get dressed (I pick out my outfit the night before)
make-up and hair
make a snack for mid-morning (a green smoothie)
pack up lunch (I get this ready the night before)
and out the door I go!

I need an hour minimum, not counting breakfast, reading, housework or taking care of our dog. And that is only if I have my outfit picked out beforehand. If I'm washing my hair, I have to add more time because blow drying takes forever.

I like to take my time in the morning. I like an hour at least, but if need be I can get ready faster. But I enjoy a slow paced morning.

My routine:
- Take dogs outside
- Make coffee, drink coffee while checking social media. Sometimes eat breakfast with coffee.
- Pack lunch for work
- Shower (wash hair daily)
- Pick outfit and get dressed
- Do hair and make-up - usually full face of make-up and blow-dry and straighten hair
- Out the door

My hair and makeup takes fifteen minutes, but that's usually broken up over an hour. I wash hair and pick outfit night before. In the morning I get big kids their breakfast, put up my hair, feed the baby, change and dress him, wash and do my makeup, pack diaper bag, do breakfast dishes, then eat breakfast if I have time.

From timing ourselves getting up in the wee hours to make it out of the house to get to the airport I've figured out that I need 45 minutes to be safe, and 5 of that is still lying in bed looking at the ceiling and psyching myself up with sleeping cats piled on me :), the last 15 minutes is luggage loading, remembering all the details he forgot, and taking care of the house/cats.

On a regular weekday it's more like 30-40 minutes, of which the first 15 minutes is cat stuff -- food, litter, five minute walk to sniff around in the fenced in yard so they don't constantly meow for the rest of the process. 5-10 minutes to dress, 15 minutes for makeup and hair. I usually shower the night before and can leave the house in 20 minutes from waking if I'm only going to the gym and makeup is really minimal. Breakfast is a banana and juice if anything -- I'm all about early lunch.

Great thread BrieN, it's inspiring to an undisciplined morning slacker like me to read everyone's routines.

I feed the kitties, make brekkie, then sit around reading YLF and sipping coffee for a very long time.

At the last possible second I shower, throw on some slap and an outfit and bolt out the door, hoping traffic won't make me late.

I can be ready in about 30 minutes, which includes showering/washing hair, skin care, styling hair, dressing and getting myself a cup of coffee. I mostly work from home, so I can break for a meal later in the morning. I do prep breakfast and pack lunches for my husband and sister (who is developmentally disabled and lives with us), but I do not include that in my personal "get ready" time (which comes after those chores). Oh yes… I also feed the kitty. :-)

Wow, you all are impressive! I thought I was pretty fast but a lot of you are faster. It takes me 30-40 minutes and I set my clothes out the night before. Shower (wash hair about every 3 days), brush teeth, put stuff in hair, do makeup etc, dry hair (not totally dry, being curly I let it air dry the last bit), get dressed. Then I like to have some time to drink a cup of coffee and watch the news but that's not included in my 30-40 minutes.

I like to have an hour, but I can do it in a half hour if I don't wash my hair and take my coffee with me in a travel mug. :-)

Most of my (weekday) mornings look like this:

- shower (sometimes wash hair, sometimes not)
- throw pjs back on; towel on head
- go downstairs for coffee; surf web, read top news stories; check YLF
- blow dry hair partway
- make toast or pour cereal
- put on moisturizer/sunscreen
- go back upstairs (with toast) to get dressed while cream sinks in
- come back down to do makeup
- realize toast is still in bedroom; go retrieve it
- go back downstairs to do makeup
- decide that hair looks bad; plug in straightening iron
- realize I've misplaced my ring/phone/shoes/random item
- wander around house with toast and/or coffee cup, searching for missing item
- sort out the problem one of my kids inevitably has every morning
- lose coffee cup/toast
- remember I've left the iron on, go back and try to fix hair
- either it's successful in the first two minutes, or I make it worse; if the latter, give up in disgust and find a hat
- realize I'm five minutes late and dash out the door

My condensed morning routine:

- quick shower, definitely no hair washing
- put actual clothes on, including shoes; skip accessories
- make coffee/do face while coffee is brewing
- put in toast
- grab shoes, phone, backpack
- put coffee in travel mug, toast on a plate, and head out the door

The second routine is way more efficient, but much less fun.

Same as Firecracker. Breakfast is always first - no matter what's on for the day. And I can doodle over that , drinking coffee and reading blogs, email etc as long as time allows. My makeup and skin routine probably takes the longest of the entire shower/dress/hair routine. If my eyesight were better, I'm sure I could be a lot faster with it - lol.
