Some proms lean towards full length gowns, others not. So I'd find out what others are wearing -- if you care about that! And it's totally okay if you do not!</p> <p>I am mom to two college gals; they both chose cocktail dresses for their proms. They were one of the few to wear something other than full length gowns, but they did not care. That's not what they wanted. At their proms most girls wore pastel full length gowns; my oldest chose a dress similar to the shape of yours, in gray, with sequin bodice. My youngest chose a black knee length Marilyn-Monroe-ish&nbsp;dress with rhinestone neckline; she was the only gal at her prom wearing black. Even more so with the right necklace, earrings and bracelet. I went prom dress shopping with my niece last spring and saw a wide variety of styles. Most were floor length, but some were shorter.
