Thanks everyone! This is what I'm wanting, because I have been looking for a black and white striped T shirt that is short sleeve but not cap sleeve. These don't look cap to me:

http://www.clubmonaco.com/prod....._knitstees

But, I've realized I may have missed my window because it is hot enough now that my black pants are not so comfy and I haven't found good summer ones...or white ones that fit my needs. So no T shirt unless I find those things.

Gaylene - thank you so much for that information - brilliant! And of course, Alfred Sung is now selling his own ready-to-wear line via Zellers and The Bay is now carrying a limited number of items from Pink Tartan.

I've only owned a few Club Monaco items in my lifetime but found the quality to be excellent.

Very interesting. I've been so clueless about fashion most of my life - all I knew was that Club Monaco was a cachet name when it started when I was a teen, but it totally makes sense that it never worked for me, being a hippie-ish teen who had no use for minimalist basics. It doesn't help that the store they opened in my neighbourhood was actually an outlet, which they didn't advertise, I only found out when looking for a particular item and an SA told us it was actually an outlet and they wouldn't have the full line there. Well DUH, that explains why the stuff in that store always seemed "off"!
Always been a huge fan of Joe Fresh however, it's actually changed my life. The grocery store environment took the intimidation factor out and also made it easier to head to the change room multiple times with dozens of items in different sizes. Joe gave my relationship with fashion new life.
I think CM was also formative in its own way. I've always admired a certain minimalist look on slim, effortlessly stylish women, yet never been able to pull it off. Wondering now if that began with CM's influence on my teenage relationship with clothes and my body.

Brilliant history, Gaylene. I knew some of this vaguely but had not put all the pieces together! Thank you for that.

And yes, Club Monaco is good quality.

Club Monaco has an interesting lineage. Joe and Saul Mimran were brothers who operated in the Toronto garment industry in the late 70s. They launched a young Chinese designer, Alfred Sung, whose designs were quite popular with working women in the 80s.

In the mid-eighties, Joe Mimran and Alfred Sung launched a new store that would focus on minimalist basics like the perfect white shirt or pair of black pants; they named the store Club Monaco. The store was rather radical for its time since almost all of the clothes were in neutral shades of black, bone, white, and grey. Club Monaco grew until it operated stores in Canada, USA, Japan, and South Korea. It was purchased by Polo Ralph Lauren who operates the stores as a separate entity today.

Kimberley Newport-Mimran, Joe Mimran's wife, is the lead designer for Pink Tartan, an upscale line owned by the Mimran company that is sold at Holt Renfrew and Saks Fifth Avenue. The Pink Tartan flagship store is in Yorkville, Toronto. Joe's own interest in design led him to create the Joe Fresh line for Loblaws which is currently moving into the USA.

Saul's two children, Tamara Mimran and Jordin Mimran, also launched a line of clothing called Moon (the name of Alfred Sung's first store in Yorkville) which is a fast-fashion line of classics and trendy items for the young professional woman.

The hallmark of the Mimran aesthetic has always been a clean, minimalist design that is fashion forward and available at multiple price points. Generally the quality of most items in the Mimran family is good value for the price point. Club Monaco, because it is owned by Polo Ralph Lauren, probably offers comparable quality.

It was never cheap. In Canada (and it's originally a Canadian brand) at least, it predates fast fashion, but even so was always a little more expensive than the other youth-oriented chains. Personally, in my twenties I finally figured out after 10 years of trying to shop there that they were not cutting to flatter my curves and in fact rarely had size 12/14 on the shelf, so I stopped shopping there (yay! I was so much happier when I had that epiphany about which brands worked). It's been many years however so I have no idea what they do these days.

Definitely much beter than forever 21. I shop there a lot and to me they a one of the higher end mall stores, actually. Quality is much better than say Gap, H&M, Ricki's, etc. A lot of their items are silk, cashmere, merino, etc.

Good. Very good. CM is one of my favourite stores. Not AT ALL like Forever 21.

That said, t-shirts are t-shirts. 100% cotton jersey knit does not have a high longevity factor. It's just the nature of the fabrication.

I was looking online and was surprised at the prices. I always had an image of this as kind of cheap...along the lines of Forever 21. Did I misunderstand the image?

There is a striped T shirt I'm eyeing, but at $39 I think, I want the quality to be decent.
