Since I'm overseas from most of my family, last year I just ordered things on Amazon or Etsy and told them not to open the boxes. Not very fancy, I know! We also have a long-standing gift exchange system in the family. All the adults draw names, and then you just buy a gift for that person, usually about $30.

This year my family is coming here in January, so I haven't bought them anything at all to mail overseas. My husband and I decided to take them all to the Panto, a very silly play that is a British holiday tradition, as their main gift. So I wrapped up a little bit of paper with an explanation of what it is and stuck it in their cards. I'll probably get a few odds and ends so that the kids have something to unwrap when they get here, but I'm looking for things that are inflatable, wearable, or edible. Though I might get some Aldi face cream for Mom and my Aunt.

I'm almost done!

One idea that I'm excited about: family game night theme. I bought a game that was appropriate for the ages of the children then added a couple bags of holiday candy. I also found jiffy pop popcorn (does anyone remember this?) which I thought would be fun for young kids to watch expand while it cooks. Lastly I found small bottles of unusual popcorn seasonings: jalapeno, kettle corn, and ranch.

I am feeling relieved. This year, I decided I'd buy some things locally and ship them to my relatives in Canada, instead of ordering stuff online from Canadian retailers that would be shipped to them directly. I got some really nice things during the Black Friday sales, but of course, I wasn't thinking all that clearly about shipping costs and/or bulk when it comes to parcels. In the meantime, I kind of messed up - bought things I thought the person would enjoy, but without thinking of shipping costs at all. Oops. Don't laugh, but in addition to a nice sweater-jacket type thing, I somehow managed to buy a *four pound* jar of umpteen flavours of Jelly Belly jelly beans for my aunt. I know she will love it, its just that it was kind of dumb of me to buy these bulky things that have to be shipped. Ah well - it's ALL DONE - yay!!

Today was the most fun of all - I managed to ship off the main parcels, and as a result, I could focus on finding fun stocking stuffers for my husband.

I still have a lot to do, but I just *loved* finding all kinds of treats for my husband's stocking. I still smell like men's skin creams (as a result of opening and smelling things before buying). Had a blast at Whole Foods buying up fancy chocolate, single-serve sizes of Justin's nut butter in flavours like Maple Almond.

Knowing my luck, the stuff I've bought for husband's stocking will not actually fit into his stocking, and I'll have to use half a pair of hosiery instead. This seems silly, but it works. If you have a bunch of stocking stuff that won't fit into a typical stocking, you can always cut a pair of hose in half, fill it with Christmas goodies, and tie off with a fancy wired ribbon. My husband *loves* it when I do this. This kind of stocking takes a really long time to get through - probably because I also wrap every single item in it. So, if you have way too many stocking stuffers, and you also have a pair of hose that maybe has a run ....snip the hose in half, fill the half-stocking with wrapped goodies, no matter how small or insignificant, and tie the top with a fancy ribbon. Just one of the weird things I do when it becomes necessary (ie. the stocking stuffers won't all fit into a typical stocking). It's kind of funny seeing the person having to reach way down into the half-pair of hose/tights to retrieve the next present/stocking stuffer.

Don't let those ruined hose go to waste - they make great stockings at this time of year. You can even coordinate those micro-fishnets with matching wired ribbon.

Yes, it will take an hour-plus to get through one of these 'stockings' but it's a lot of fun.

I'm all set for DC (but need to stop as I keep finding things..)
I'm all set for DH (we do 3 gifts)- Sodastream, "Christmas Sweater" (I swear he asked for one, but I could only muster this:
http://www.hannaandersson.com/.....=38156_745
Fleece hat and halfzip pullover in Yellow (From DD whose favorite color is yellow)
Redskins Mr. Potato Head from DS
Una If DH knew there was a Bacon of the MOnth club I'd have to get him one. Maybe next year
I got my SIL a great necklace and earrings from Lord & Taylor and this awesome scarf for 50% off today:
http://www.teacollection.com/p.....html#brown fur
I've sent daily deal links to DH but not sure what he's actually purchased.
My mom is getting a Sonicare, a red sweater (family tradition) and a Fairy house for her garden
I've had my Secret Santa gift ready and am going to mail this week.
I also emptied the gift closet to give gifts to 5 military children (adopted by mine and DH's companies) and 2 at DC's daycare. Sometimes my over shopping can be a good thing.

I'm with @Louise - I have to watch Christmas movies (Vacation, It's a Wonderful Life, Scrooged) while wrapping and enjoy when it's done.

Makrame, not sure if you live in the US, but if so, have you looked at places like Sally Beauty Supply? I imagine a salon supply store (that is open to the public) would probably have the best quality tools.

I am still looking for a nice cashmere sweater for DH - I usually don't buy him clothes (he likes to buy clothes and does quite well for himself) so I thought this would a nice change. I would like to find something that is good quality and a nice, deep color but on sale - still searching.

Got some nice pocket notebooks as stocking stuffers - http://www.amazon.com/Wellspri.....d_sbs_op_3

I would like to find good quality nail scissors for my mom since her manicure set is getting really old but so far I had to return all of those I tried - not such a great quality.

Books and e-books are big on my list and requested by my husband, sister and mother. Thanks to Diana's post on Cabbages and Roses, I have my eye on a coat that just may find itself under our Christmas tree!

I don't really do much shopping for the holidays- the kids are having their bedrooms decorated this year, so that is in the works. I have to get token gifts for my parents and neighbors, and one gift each for the kids gift exchange at SIL's house, details are still being determined.
We found a multi purpose tool for the man next door, but I am stuck for his wife. We can't do anything consumable because she has a lot of health issues which limit what she can eat/drink, and her size/mobility issues makes most other things I can think of difficult. I know she likes Johnny Depp, so I may try Hot Topic to see if I can find something for her.

I've done a bit of shopping already, but the toughest is always my husband -- not only is he one of those men who has everything and buys himself things he likes, but his birthday is right after Christmas, so the two big gift-giving occasions of the year fall within two weeks of one another.

He loves to read, so I usually get him a couple of books, and some nice cigars, but I also like to come up with something with more wow factor. Clothes are difficult because he is so tall and hard to fit. He travels a lot for business, and I was going to get him a new suitcase, but lo and behold, he came home with a new one last week!

I think an experience of some sort may be a good idea, I just am at a loss for what that should be. We're going to Mexico for a little vacation for his birthday, and he signed up for a fantasy baseball spring training camp, so he's already got some very cool travel coming up.

If anyone has any ideas, I welcome suggestions!

My husband and I agreed to get each other one big gift that we each asked for, and then fill our stockings with little surprises that we come up with ourselves. He still isn't sure what he wants for his "big" gift this year. Time is running out! I told him he better let me know, or else all he's going to get is a sweater and some underwear, hee. My big Christmas gift arrived about a week ago! Eeeee, I'm so excited! : D

As for other people, I'm ordering off their Amazon wish lists (it makes things soooo convenient). Many of my friends have Kindles, and ordering Kindle books is super easy (but I have to wait until Christmas Even to do it). One of my friends is a mature lady who doesn't order anything off the internet. She wears Jontue perfume, which you can't buy in the store anymore, so I'm going to get some of that for her since I do order off the internet.

I was really stumped on two gals I've known since kindergarten - we've all been living in different states, super busy, so I haven't talked to them in what feels like forever. They are both grad students, so I got Gap giftcards and little stocking stuffers, crackle nail polish and contrasting colors to layer under, socks. I figured that since they are used to budgeting, it might be fun to go out and shop for themselves.

Sister and I made an all-massage gift pact - done and done!

For once knew the perfect gift for my edgy, rocker Dad as soon as I clapped eyes on a carved animal skull necklace on Etsy (artist is "the pewter wolf"). A VERY nice person who kindly did up another casting so that we can have a set. I highly recommend him if you need edgy jewelry for anyone.

The boys (and grown up boys) got remote-controlled mini helicopters. Awesome deals floating around on these at Amazon - $20. The best thing is that you can use these R/C toys indoors, whereas most need to be outdoors.

Mom gets a blouse I found months ago.

Dear husband is getting custom-made (made by me, requested by him) elbow pads for his computer chair in addition to his custom Fallout wallet. I should post pics of this... I couldn't wait to give it to him, and he really loved it!

I know we already had one thread on holiday shopping. I thought we could use an update.

How has your seasonal shopping gone so far? Are you done? Procrastinating? Struggling to find what you want? Share your successes and trials here!

Have you decided to keep it low key this year, or do you always do? Do you bake instead? Take a trip? Share your experiences-- because right now, that sounds lovely to me!

Anyone care to share what they have purchased so far and what is still on their lists for others? How about what is still on the list you gave to Santa?

Dually, this might be a great place for ideas for those of us that are stumped, and/or a place for tips as for where to find a good pair of over-the-ear-headphones or a merino cardi for X-type of person.
